Dec 2009 will have a BLUE MOON

Tonight, Dec. 1, 2009, if you look in the sky, you will see a Full Moon. No, it is not literally blue in color (unless where you are viewing, a lot of dust particles or smoke particles are in the atmosphere).

But, the full moon tonight is the first of 2 Full Moons that will occur in December 2009.

The second time this month that a full moon will be seen (In North and South America) will be on Dec. 31, 2009. (Folks on the ‘other side of the world’ will actually see this same full moon on Jan 1, 2010) so ‘technically’ they will not have a Blue Moon December. Oh well.

Anyway, those of us on ‘this side of the world’ will have 2 Full Moons in the same month. And that is where the concept of a BLUE MOON comes to play. Why?

Because, when a month has 2 Full Moons, The second Full Moon in the same month, is called a “Blue Moon”.

Interesting.

Anyway, if you are outside tonight, take a look.
