Ice Age Child found in Alaska

You may have already seen this but, in case you haven't --

Recent news reports reveal that Archaeologists have found the remains of what they believe to be a 3 year old Ice Age child in Alaska.

It all began with the discovery of a tooth! (Not the 'clip art' tooth in this picture, of course).

And then they continued their search.

Teeth according to the Dentist, who frequently reads these DIT's, are so strong and enduring that they are basically the 'last to go' of the skeleton.

So it is not surprising that the discovery began with the finding of a tooth.

Of course, wearing their 'old earth' glasses, they believe the tooth and bone fragments are 11,500 years old.

Those wearing 'young earth' glasses would place the date at somewhere around 4,000 years (in the one and only ice age that occurred shortly after the flood of Noah.)

So with that by way of background, HERE'S THE LINK to the story.

And to see more photos made at the excavation site, HERE'S THE LINK

Things thought impossible

Yesterday we linked to an ICR Devotional thought by Dr. Morris.

Today we would like to tell you about another.

This time the subject is "Things thought impossible" and it covers not one but two very important concepts.

The first has to do with Miracles, Creation, and Evolution. It is succinct but very important.

The second has to do with that 'most interesting' comment by Jesus to the rich young ruler that he (the RYR) could not inherit enteral life unless he gave all he had to the poor!

Doubtless you have wondered, perhaps agonized, over this verse, especially if you are rich!

Well, there is a very interesting 'explanation' to that statement in this brief Daily Devotional thought from the Days of Praise Daily Devotional Booklet.  HERE'S THE LINK.

Creation and the Constellations

This is the title of the ICR Days of Praise Devotional thought for Feb 23/ 2011.

It was written by Dr. Henry M. Morris.

The reason this is especially interesting is several fold.

First, we received a call from the teacher of the SS class in Atlanta that we frequently reference on this DIT site, informing us about this article.

Second, this can serve as a 'heads up' to members of that class who come to this DIT site from time to time. And you know who you are.  : )

Why a 'heads up' you ask?

Well, because that SS teacher has asked us to prepare a lesson on the Mazzaroth, which is what is referred to in the article by Dr. Morris.

That talk will probably 'happen' sometime in March or early April, so you SS class folks start 'clearing your calendars' (clear them to 'be there', that is.)

In the meantime, for you and everyone else, the Devotional thought for Feb 23 by Dr. Morris is very interesting and 'right on'.

It ends with this statement:

"Before the Scriptures were given, the testimony of God's primeval promises had somehow been written indelibly in the heavens, for those in earth's earliest ages who had eyes and hearts to see."

Earthquakes

Wow. There have been a lot of earthquakes lately.

Some numerous and smallish (2s and 3s), as in Arkansas.

Others reallllly big and awful, as the recent 6.3 one in New Zealand.

Perhaps you have been in a quake and felt the tremors and the earth moving.

It is truly a scary hopeless helpless feeling as you anticipate what might happen.

Hopefully you have never been in a 'big one'.

Recently many pictures of the 'really big one' in New Zealand were posted on the internet.

Thought you would like to see them (some are repeated but keep clicking).  HERE'S THE LINK

Will you be attending the wedding ?

Were you invited?

Have you accepted the invitation?

Invited to what? you ask.

To the British Royal wedding of Prince Philip and Kate Middleton.

It is to be on April 29, 2011 and about 1900 have been invited.

But, even though many have been invited, obviously many many more have not and will miss it.

But that is not the wedding that is realllllly important.

The really important invitation is the one that  God the Father has given to the entire world.

What?

Yes, His Son, The Lord God Jesus Christ is also going to have a wedding.

And, unlike the Prince Philip and Kate wedding, everyone in the entire world has been invited --

BUT, alas, not everyone has accepted His invitation.

And if you don't accept the invitation, you can not attend.  Instead, when the time comes, those who have not accepted will be forever excluded from His Presence and His eternal Kingdom.

If you miss Prince Philip's wedding, it will not be the end of the world.

But, if you miss the wedding of God's only Son to you, His bride, your loss will be eternal and awful beyond words.

To read about the coming wedding of Prince Philip to his bride, Kate, HERE'S THE LINK

In order to be present at your wedding to the Lord Jesus Christ, you must be 'saved' / 'born again'. To find out about how to be 'saved' / 'born again', HERE'S THE LINK.

Where did the idea of millions of years come from?

Where did the idea of ‘millions of years’ come from and what difference does it make to ‘believe’ in ‘millions of years instead of what the Bible teaches (that the earth is only about 6000 years old).

Why wonder about this? you ask.

Well, because It makes a big difference which view you believe.

Indeed, your entire worldview will be based on the foundation of what you believe about this.

So, perhaps it would be instructive to see just when the ‘old earth’ view developed and why.

There are several books which discuss this.

I am reading one of those books now. But it is hundreds of pages long and you might not have time for that.

Instead, this article, which is a single chapter in the excellent book, The New Answers Book - Book 2, is an excellent summary of where the idea of ‘millions of years’ and evolution came from.  HERE'S THE LINK

Another Death Experience

A few days ago, we read about the 3 year old boy who died while in surgery and went to heaven.

Now, another similar event has come to our attention.

This time an adult, a Lawyer, is relating his experience.

He died about 3 years ago, also while in surgery.

He frequently shares his experience,  sometimes one on one and sometimes at meetings and in Church services.

This particular telling was in a recent Church service.

For those of you who had to miss Church today, you could consider this your sermon.

For the rest of you, who were able to attend, well, this is just a bonus.

Either way, everyone will want to view this 20 minute video. HERE'S THE LINK

Speed Traps

Well, not that YOU are speeding.

And most mice are not but a picture of a mousetrap somehow seemed appropriate to the DIT for today.

But we digress, so to return to the topic of 'speed traps' ---

Indeed, you are likely not speeding (to save gas) but you are probably not driving as much as you used to either -- what with the rising fuel prices and all.

And retired folks don't have to speed.  They can drive (or be driven like 'Driving Miss Daisy') and enjoy the view .

But, for those of you who are still daily 'on the road' or who have 'friends' who speed, you will want to know about the locations of some of the more 'famous' (or would that be 'infamous') speed traps. HERE'S THE LINK.

Snow Sculptures

Well, it looks like winter might be over at last.

Spring seems to be in the air here at the DIT place.

Birds are back including the robins.

Jounquils are blooming.

Grass is starting to grow and trees are starting to bud.

So perhaps winter is over.

If so, let's look at these 'last gasp of winter pictures' of snow sculptures in the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan. HERE'S THE LINK.

Einstein the Talking Parrot

You probably have already heard about and perhaps already heard this parrot.

I say that because there are already over 1.7 million hits on the YouTube site where he is 'talking'.

So why are so many listening to a parrot?

Well, seems this is a verrrrrrry talented parrot.

Yes, we know parrots can talk and make interesting sounds but this one truly is an Einstein and is not your 'average' parrot.

After Near Death Experience Boy says "Heaven is real"

This is another WOW.

While surfing the net recently we 'happened' upon this very interesting story.

Seems a little boy, when about 3 years old, had a ruptured appendix and while being operated upon went to heaven.

That is what he told his parents months later.

Now a book has been written about the experience.  It is the cover picture for today's DIT.

Beethoven's 5th

A friend just sent this link by email and after watching it, all I can say is

WOW !

From time to time we have posted links to 'little ones' doing interesting things.

Well, this is no exception.

This is a 3 year old and what he does is truly amazing.

The title of today's entry and the picture above of Beethoven are a big clue.

So, sit back, turn on your speakers, and watch this little kiddo in this 4 min 29 sec video  HERE'S THE LINK

Today is Valentine's Day

And many are busily scurrying around sending flowers, chocolates, gifts, and cards to those they love.

And that is fine.

But, actually Valentine's Day should't just be one day.  It should be an all year thing.

Not that you need to send cards and flowers and etc every day.

But, we need to notice and help others around us, even and especially strangers.

You never know when an opportunity to show real love as you encounter folks in your day to day experiences.

And not only is Valentine's day Valentine's Day, for many it is also their Birthday.

So Happy Birthday to all of you -- and you know who you are.

But enough of this pontificating.

If you want to know more about Valentine's day itself, how it came to be, and etc., well then, HERE'S THE LINK

On Line Free Magazine

We have mentioned theWorldview Weekend folks several times (well, ok 'many' times) on this site.

We have encouraged you to attend their Free live conferences in various cities.

We have even told you about a soon coming Free Online Internet Conference which will be held on Sunday night, Feb 27, 2011.

Speakers at that online conference will include Dr. Ron Carson, Brannon Howse, Dr. David Noebel, Dr. Erwin Lutzer, and Usama Dakdok.

Perhaps you have availed yourself of some of the live conferences and perhaps you have signed up for the Free Internet Conference (they need a number so they know how much band width will be needed).

But, perhaps you haven't been to a conference or are still skeptical about the online conference.

If so, then perhaps the 48 page FREE Magazine which they have recently posted on their website will give you a 'clue' as to what to expect.

It has information about the conferences PLUS several great articles. HERE'S THE LINK.

Tomb of the prophet Zechariah found?

According to a recent report on the web, Israeli archaeologists may have found what might be the tomb of Zechariah within the remains of a Byzantine-era church.

They haven't exactly found the tomb in the remains yet, but apparently they suspect it may be there.

Interesting.

But, hmmmmmm, I thought that his tomb was one of those monuments in Jerusalem located to the east of the Temple Mount. At least there is one there so named.

Maybe it is named but empty?

Oh, well.  Who knows.

Anyway, thought you would want to know about this possible latest 'find'. HERE'S THE LINK

15 Secrets your Waiter will never tell you

We are coming up on that festive time of the year, Valentine's day, when lots of folks will eat out.

But is that a wise thing to do? Should you 'go out' on Valentine's Day?

Or should you select another day?

Well, the answer to that question and many more interesting factoids are included in this article titled "15 Secrets your waiter will never tell you."

It is fascinating and, as a bonus, if you look closely, you will find a lot of sub links in the article with even more surprising info.

VW comes to Chattanooga

Recently I attended a meeting where the main speaker was one of the officials at the new VW plant in Chattanooga.

His presentation was very interesting.

Seems that 'nooga was selected out of about 384 or so possible locations in the US to build their one and only VW plant in the US.

They are beginning production with the new Passat.

But, interestingly, in his Power Point presentation he did not show the two commercials that were such a hit during the recent Super Bowl.

You probably saw them.  But, if you didn't, here they are:

First, the 30 second "VW Beetle ad." HERE'S THE LINK

And second, the 1 minute 2 second, "the Force ad" about the New Passat which is being built in Chattanooga.  HERE'S THE LINK.

Movie: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

While folks were opening gifts at Christmas this year, one group of siblings received a DVD of one of the Narnia movies from their grandparents.

"Oh, we already have that movie," the kiddos said.

So the grandparents asked for them to give back the movie and said they would get them the next movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, when it came out in a few weeks.

Well, it is now out and hmmmmmm, perhaps the grandparents will not want to give it to the grandkids after all.

Why?

Well, recently a movie review of The Dawn Treader appeared on the internet.

Seems it is not as Christian as it was hyped to be and actually has some lines in it that will wreck long term havoc in little kiddos non discerning minds.

To read more about this, HERE'S A LINK and HERE'S ANOTHER. You should read them both.

More about the John 3:16 Ad

Yesterday we mentioned that Fox Sports would not and did not allow an ad about John 3:16 to be aired during the Super Bowl.

The ad which, was about 30 seconds in length, and which you can see on the Click Though from yesterday's DIT, ended with a link to the website which produced it and which explains more about John 3:16

If you did not go to the John 3:16 website yesterday, good news, today you get a second chance.  HERE'S THE LINK.

An ad you will NOT see during the Super Bowl

As you surely know, unless you have been on Mars for the past year, this is Super Bowl Sunday.

And, as  we mentioned last year (Sunday, Feb 7, 2010) the Ads are one of the reasons folks love to watch the Super Bowl.

Last year we referenced an Ad about Tim Tebow.  If you did not see it, HERE'S THE LINK.

This year there is no Tebow ad --

NOR will there be an ad about a Bible Verse.

What?

Yes, it seems that a Bible Verse Ad, about the John 3:16 sign that you have surely seen held up at many football games including Super Bowls for the past umteen years, is not allowed to be aired.

Why will we not see this ad?

Well, to find out why Fox Sports will not allow this ad to be aired, HERE'S THE LINK.

13 Things your Mail Carrier Won't Tell you

Today while chatting on the phone, the 'chatee' said she had not yet mailed the book she was intending to mail.

Good thing she didn't because just a few hours later, this interesting article turned up on the web.

Why is this article important re mailing a book? you ask.

Well, it seems she might save some money (and so might you) in this and other future mailings.

The money saving feature about mailing the book is # 4 in the total of 13 interesting Things your Mail Carrier won't tell you.

Atlanta

Another funny email has arrived.

This time it is about Atlanta Georgia.

And it is  not only funny -- it is also all too true.

The email began with these words:

"This is for anyone who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, has ever lived in Atlanta, has ever visited Atlanta, ever plans to visit Atlanta, knows anyone who already lives in Atlanta, or knows anyone who has ever heard of Atlanta."

Likely you fit into one of those categories.

If so, you will hoot at the rest of this email.   HERE'S THE LINK

The Groundhog Report !!!

In case you have not heard, the Groundhog weather reports are in.

And folks in the North and West, who are currently experiencing the aftermath of the 2000 mile blizzard, will be verrrrrry happy to get the Groundhog Report.

It seems that Punxsutawney Phil and General Lee did NOT see their shadows.

 So, great news --

There will NOT be 6 more weeks of winter.

But, not so fast !!!

Guess what, there also seems to be a Chattanooga woodchuck !

Who knew?

His name is Chattanooga Chuck.

And, alas, he DID see his shadow.

So, according to Chattanooga Chuck, the Chattanooga area will have 6 more weeks of weather.

Hmmmm. Perhaps someone one should let him know what his cousins saw.

But, yes, it is true, the sun did shine in Chattanooga on Groundhog day.  So perhaps all those signs of spring (robins, early green leaves on bushes, etc.) were just a false alarm.

Sigh.

However, for the rest of the country, the reports by Punxsutawney Phil and General Lee are good news indeed.

But, back to the Chattanooga woodchuck.  If his existence is news to you as it was to us, HERE'S THE LINK

Today is Groundhog day

It is that long awaited day when we supposedly find out if the brrrrrrr cold of winter will continue or if we can anticipate the warmer days of Spring.

You surely know about Punxsutawney Phil, the famous 'Northern' Groundhog.  But did you know that there is also a 'Southern Version'?

Yes, indeed.

General Lee, the Georgia Groundhog, nicknamed 'Beau', also predicts the weather!

Bottom line: If either Punxsutawney Phil and / or General Lee sees his shadow, winter will continue for 6 more weeks.

But, if either does not see his shadow, then winter will soon end and he leaves his burrow for the anticipated soon coming spring weather.

Hmmm. Interesting and perhaps two groundhogs are needed since the weather patterns in the North and South are often different.

Indeed, folks in the south are already seeing a few signs of spring. So perhaps, as is often the case, General Lee will have a different 'take' on the weather than Punxsutawney Phil.

But we digress, back to the 'special day' in question, that of Groundhog day.

Alas this is another pagan celebration apparently brought to the Americas by early settlers from Europe in the 1700s.

The General Lee Groundhog of Georgia site tells about the pagan beginnings and about General Lee, the 'Southern Version' of Punxsutawney Phil. HERE'S THE LINK

And to find out more about Punxsutawney Phil, affectionally known as “Phil” for obvious reasons (spelling no doubt), and the results for each year since 1887, HERE'S THE LINK
