Genesis 1

Beginning today and over the next few days -- we are going to do a very brief but interesting overview of the Torah.

The Torah?  What is that? you ask.

Well, in the Jewish Bible, as well as in the Bible that everyone else uses, the Torah is the first 5 Books.

If you have never read the Bible before, you will find this really really interesting.

And if you are a Bible Scholar, Pastor, SS or Bible Study Teacher, or whatever, you will still find this presentation clear, interesting, and understandable.

So with that by way of introduction, let's begin with Chapter 1 of the entire Bible.

Today is Thanksgiving day in the USA

In America, today is Thanksgiving Day.

This is the day that folks travel to grandmother’s house or some similar place to gather with family and friends and observe one of the most favorite and special times of the year, Thanksgiving.

Some will have large gatherings and bountiful meals, others smaller groups and not so much.

But all who truly understand this special Holiday will give thanks on this day to God for our many blessings.

History books, when I was a child, told the correct history of Thanksgiving.

But, alas, since those days, there have been many revisions and deletions concerning its origin and true meaning.

So what is the true history of Thanksgiving day? you ask.

Well, the article to which we will link today will give you a factual,
non-revised, history.

You really need to read this and you might even want to read or summarize it at your Thanksgiving gathering.

but it is also referring to the throne of Jesus.

How can this be? you ask.

Today's click through provides clarification.

After reading this brief devotional thought, you will understand.

Dinosaurs and Dragon Legends

You likely have been repeatedly told and therefore likely believe that Dinosaurs lived long long long ago --

indeed you likely believe that they lived long before mankind appeared on the earth.

Is this correct?

Or were Dinosaurs alive much more recently and did they actually live at the same kind as mankind?

Today's click through discusses that possibility.

Sunday Hymn: There is a fountain filled with Blood

Today's Hymn tells about the Blood of Jesus, which was the price He paid to redeem (save) those who trust in Him as God and Savior.

A blood (i.e. death) sacrifice is required because without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.

Jesus provided His own death (blood sacrifice) as the payment for the sins of anyone who trusts in Him and accepts His substitute sacrifice in place of the death penalty he or she will have to personally pay if they do not accept His sacrificial gift of salvation.

Halloween or Reformation Day

 This is another oops.

It seems that for some reason Google is not letting us access the site to which I was sending us on Oct 31.

So I am cutting and pasting the article that should have been in the click through Link.  Sigh.

This is what it said:

Which (pun intended although the spelling is different) do you think of when you see this date on the calendar? Halloween? or the Reformation?

Probably you think of Halloween but are you aware that it was on Oct 31, 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church and thus began what is now known as the Protestant Reformation?

Likely your children, grandchildren, neighbors, or whomever are ‘celebrating’ the Halloween aspect of this date by either ‘trick or treating’ or having some kind of Church event which is semi-incorporating an observance of the witches halloween, either calling it a ‘fall festival’ or some other ‘innocent’ sounding name.

Indeed, many folks today decorate their yards and houses with goblins, ghosts, pumpkins, etc. But, should they or you even celebrate Halloween at all?

There are many excellent articles and resources that explain why observance of Halloween is NOT a good thing. You can find some of them at these 4 links below:

http://www.crossroad.to/images/Halloween/Halloween-symbols.htm
http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/2002/yugi.htm
http://www.crossroad.to/text/articles/Halloween.html
http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/Halloween2000.html

So, rather than celebrating Halloween, how about thinking about the Reformation and the positive results that came from it. Your Church might even want to have a “Reformation Party” or event with videos, talks, whatever, telling about what happened and why.

One of the reasons our Churches are in the mess they are in today is because folks do NOT know about the Reformation, what it accomplished, why it is important, and what will result if we abandon what it accomplished.

To read the 95 Theses in Martin Luther’s own words, HERE’S THE LINK:
http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/history/95theses.htm

And to read about the Reformation that resulted from the 95 Theses (in more detail than you ever imagined), check out this article at Wikipedia. HERE’S THE LINK:
