How to tie your shoes

Yesterday we discovered how to wear a scarf 25 different ways.

And probably some of you, especially the guys, said "who cares?"

Well, if that was your response, then, as promised, today this DIT is for you.

But not to worry, gals, for you will also enjoy this DIT -- especially if you wear tennis shoes or other similar apparel in which you have to tie a bow knot.

If you only wear silp-ons, thongies, or other lace-less footwear, well, this will not be  instructionally edifying --

But it is interesting.

So, whether you wear shoes with laces or not, check out this 2 min 58 sec video. It is a hoot. HERE'S THE LINK

25 Ways to wear a Scarf

Hmmmm.

What can one say about this DIT but that it is really different.

But it is also very helpful and practical.

Many ladies have scarves but other than knowing one or two ways of putting them on, that is about 'it'.

Yet, one always suspected that there were many more ways.

As indeed today's DIT shows us.

Remember that SS class we mention from time to time? Yes?

Well, there are some 'scarf wearers' in that class that will get a charge out of today's DIT.  So, if they aren't checking DIT's daily, someone in that class needs to tell them to check this out.

And, some of you (and you know who you are) have been in or led a certain well known International Bible Study that has leaders who often wear scarves -- Well, they will especially love today's DIT.

Plus, those of you who go on cruises or fancy parties or dress up meetings and need to find an easy and fast way to change your 'look' at the various elegant dress up occasions, well, this is for you.

A friend (who was in one of those Bible Study groups we mentioned) sent us this link …. and, other than the short commercial at the beginning (which you can click to quit), this is really interesting, informative, and helpful. Thanks, friend, for sending this.

Warning, you guys will probably want to skip this but maybe sometime we can find a link to other ways to tie your ties or shoes or something.

But, for the rest of you, this is an amazing 5 minute video. HERE'S THE LINK

Lights Out

Because of the hurricane, many millions of folks in the Eastern US from about NC and northward into Canada are in the dark and without power !!!

So, this post is in honor / memory / appreciation of your problems.

Since you are unable to watch TV, talk on cell phones with dead batteries, cook, do your laundry, run your air-conditioners, go online, surf the net, or to find DIT,  today we sympathize with your plight --

Hence nothing is posted for a DIT today except a picture of your power out nothingness.

That is why there is nothing to click and nothing to see on DIT today.

Hopefully you will soon be powered back up and able to get back to 'normal'.

Then there will be more DITs for you to see with your restored power.

So, until later.

Big pictures of Tiny insects

A reader of DIT sent this link.

What is it?

A link to pictures of verrrrrry small insects, bugs, mites, and other scary 'itsy bitsy' creatures.

These pictures seem to be made with a super powerful lens and  serious magnification --

Which means that these are going to be reallllly scary looking.

Good thing that these little 'buggie' things do not have mirrors in their houses. At least I assume they don't have mirrors, though they might have looked into ours --

Or, they could look at their reflections in a water drop or whatever.

However, since "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", perhaps they think they look great and it is those big bad humans who keep trying to squish them that are the ugly ones.

Oh, well.

But one thing you will surely notice and admire about these tiny tiny creatures is the details and precision of their parts.

This is one more 'key' to understanding that these amazing parts and creatures (ugly to us or not) did not just happen by chance / evolution.

They exhibit obvious design and purpose by The Creator God.

Ok, ready to see these tiny creatures with the amazing details?  Then, HERE'S THE LINK

Oxygen

Yay. Another student, Christopher Hendryx, at The Ringling College of Art + Design has placed his thesis on line.

This time it is a realllllly cute chemistry lesson.

Now, don't panic.

If you did not do well in Chemistry in school, perhaps it was because you didn't have cute videos such as this one.

So, without further ado, check out this 2 minute 19 second Chemistry lesson about Oxygen. It is great.

Farmer Builds Model of Biblical Temple

A reader of DIT recently sent us information about this amazing model in an email.

But, alas, e-mails, at least on the server we use, can't be 'linked to'.

So we did a search and found that the article, as we suspected, is 'out there' on the net.

So what is this all about ? you ask.

Well, seems that a Farmer named Alec Gerrard, who lives in England, has spent 30 years (and is not finished yet) building an amazing model of the Biblical Temple.

You will be amazed and thrilled to see what he has done.

So, without further ado, HERE'S THE LINK

The Winds of the World

As you are not doubt well aware, especially if you live on the Eastern side of the USA, a hurricane is just offshore and likely headed your way.

This brings us to the topic of today --- which is 'winds'

Did you know that thousands and thousands of years ago the Bible recorded the circulation pattern of the winds of the atmosphere?

Yes, 'tis true.  This is not a recent discovery; it has long been known to those who read the Bible.

Ecclesiastes 1:6 (KJV) states:  "The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to His circuits"

Hmm. And folks think that this scientific fact about the circulation pattern of the winds was something only recently discovered.

But, the Bible told about this millennia ago.

Furthermore, the Bible also tells us that 'wind has weight', a fact that has only recently been discovered, or should we say re-discovered since this was documented in the Book of Job.

The Biblical book of Job, thought to have been written about 4,000 years ago, states: "He (God) … seeth under the whole heaven; To make the weight for the winds." (Job 28:24-25. KJV)

Wow!  Imagine that!

Why are Cash Register lines so long?

Does it seem that every time you get into a checkout line, the other lines beside you are moving faster?

Why does that happen?

Are the other lines always really moving faster?

Is there a better way to go through a check out line?  And, if so, why don't the stores do it the 'better way'?

Juggling (aha, now you know the reason for today's picture) to decide which line to be in doesn't have to happen IF the stores would just 'do it right'.

Actually one book store I often go to does it the 'better way' and it really works.  I wonder if they have watched this video?

Anyway, for an interesting explanation of why it seems you have always ended up in the wrong check out line, HERE'S THE LINK

Bird tricks

We had a bird once -- long long ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

Our bird lived most of the time in a cage and did not do any tricks.

One day while most of us were gone the bird got out of the cage and….

well, let's just hope there is a 'bird heaven'.

Actually, there is no bird heaven and, I hate to burst your bubble but, birds are not descended from Dinosaurs (or is it visa versa?)

Regardless, birds and dinosaurs are not related. But that is another topic for another time.

However, it is true that there are some birds who actually do tricks.

Indeed, this bird should be in a circus!  Amazing.

How to win at Rock, Paper, Scissors

Some of you might be 'into' games.

Or not.

But if you are

And if you play such things as Rock, Paper, Scissors --

Then today's DIT is for you.

To tell you the truth, I am not a 'gamer' so didn't read the entire article because it made my head hurt  thinking about the strategy.

But, If you are playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with nieces, nephews, friends, or perfect strangers, you will want to read this article.   HERE'S THE LINK.

The Boy who came back from Heaven

Previously on DIT we told you about a boy, Todd Burpo, who went to heaven while undergoing surgery for a ruptured appendix.

His story was amazing and was chronicled in the book "Heaven is for Real".

Well, apparently he is not the only child to have gone to heaven and returned.

Recently a friend loaned me a book that tells the remarkable story of Alex Malarkey.

He went to heaven at age 6 as a result of a serious car accident.

Now, at age 12, he is still a quadriplegic but the story he tells and and the prayer and other support provided to him and his family from friends, Church members, and total strangers at the time of the accident and in the years that followed is simply amazing !

Argon and Helium Diffusion rates indicate a Young Earth

You may or may not be aware that an intense in-depth study was done recently by ICR.

What was this study? You ask.

It was the RATE project -- RATE being the acronym for "Radioisotopes and the Age of the Earth."

A part of that study included the research of Dr. Russell Humphreys who studied the rate of "helium diffusion from zircons in borehole GT-2 at Fenton Hill, New Mexico."

The conclusions of Dr. Humphreys' study revealed that the diffusion rate was consistent with the age of the earth being 6,000 +- 2,000 years.

What?  How can this be, the world is said to be billions and billions of years old?

Well, read this article and let Dr. Humphreys show you what he found and explain what it means.   HERE'S THE LINK

Bridge

Another Student animation has been posted on the net.

And it surely received an A+

This animation is titled "Bridge" -- and, no, it is not the bridge pictured today but similar.

Anyway, "Bridge" is not only realllllly cute and well done --

It also has a message.

So, without further ado, to view the 2 minute 45 second animation, HERE'S THE LINK

Galileo

We at DIT are on the email list for the Khouse.org eNews.

A recent issue of eNews had a most interesting article about Galileo.

According to the eNews article, the historical account of his trial by the Roman Catholic Church, for his views about whether the earth moved around the sun, is different from what most text books teach today.

Hmmm. Interesting.

The article had information that was new to us at DIT and likely will be new to you.

The Waterphone

Some of you may be 'creepy movie' affectionados but since that word doesn't seem to be in my Computer dictionary, perhaps that is not the word to use.  So let me restate this ...

Some of you may be 'creepy movie' fans.

There, is that better?

Anyway, 'creepy movies' not being my thing, this particular video has been on the 'back burner' for a few weeks.

But, now, at last, it can be 'released' for you 'creepy movie fans' and for those who aren't such fans but are aware that creepy movies exist.

So, where do the creepy movie sounds come from? you ask.

Well, perhaps you didn't ask that and really never questioned the origin of the sounds.  You just heard them and felt 'creepy'.

But, these creepy sounds have a most interesting and unusual source with several different sizes and variants but, overall, are mostly similar in appearance and function.

Today's DIT will show you one of those instruments.

So with that said by way of 'introduction', to hear 1 minute 24 seconds of 'creepy noises' and to see if any are familiar.  HERE'S THE LINK

And if you want to know more about the Waterphone and some of the other variants, HERE'S A LINK

Can we Trust the Bible? Is it really True?

As you are surely well aware, many folks say that the Bible can not be trusted?

How do you reply to such a charge?

Can the Bible be trusted?

Is it really true?

And what difference does it make?

Hint: your World View is based on your answer to these questions.

This was recently discussed by Pat Franklin in a very insightful article on the net. HERE'S THE LINK

A Sunday Worship Video

A video was recently posted on the web that won an "Editors Picks" award.

Doubtless the Editors picked it because of the beauty and amazing scenes.

But, actually, this video could also be viewed as a time of Worship.

Those who think that what is seen in this video just happened by chance (evolution) should think again.

Those who know that the real source of the beauty depicted in this video is The Creator God Himself will gain another glimpse into His Creative Majesty.

Alas, there is a short commercial preceding the video, as is often the case.  And there are other videos with commercials which automatically load after the "Editors Picks" video ends so it would be best that you stop the video when it ends because, to tell you the truth, the ones that follow are sadly NOT worth watching.

So with that by way of introduction and warning ---

To view the 3 minute 8 second video accompanied by quiet piano music as an excellent way to Worship and Thank the Creator God on this Sunday, HERE'S THE LINK

Please Read the Aug 10 / 2011 DIT

Wednesday Aug 10, we posted a DIT about a 'church' in the Netherlands.

We didn't post anything on Thursday as you may have noticed.

Why no Thursday post? you ask.

Because the information in the Wed post was so dismaying, that we decided not to post anything that would keep the casual non-daily visitors from seeing it.

But, alas and alack, on Friday we learned that the link for that Wed. post was not 'clickable'.

So the best laid plans of mice and men (and DIT editors) went astray in that even though the post was there, the link didn't work and you couldn't see the very dismaying information.

So, having fixed the link so it is now clickable, we are asking that you please scroll down to the Wed. Aug. 10/ 2011 DIT entry and click on the link.

You might even want to add your comments in the comment section after you read the info and view the two short videos.

The world has definitely entered the Post Christian Era.

Look at what has happened to the Church in the Netherlands

The Church pictured today is in Hawaii but a similar situation is occurring in a Church in the Netherlands though their church is still open and occupied.

The article to which we are linking today tells what the Church has become and is becoming in the Netherlands and, to tell you the truth, in many places in the world including the USA.

"A study by the Free University of Amsterdam found that one-in-six clergy in the PKN and six other smaller denominations was either agnostic or atheist."

Wow.

And it gets worse.

So without further ado, it is time for you to read this article and to click on the two brief videos that accompany it.

One of the videos is the 'Pastor' -- don't miss this -- it is about 3 minutes long and, if you are a Christian, his comments will break your heart!

The second video is only 1 minute long and expresses the thoughts of some of the 'congregants'. This, too, as one frequent reader of DIT is 'wont to say, is a real "Oh, meeeee." HERE'S THE LINK.

Today is the 9th of Av (Tisha B'Av)

At sundown today, Aug 9, the 9th of Av begins.

What is the 9th of Av?

Well, it is a Jewish holiday that is not a 'fun' time.  It commemorates a number of really horrible events that have occurred on the same day over the multiple millennia of Jewish history.

Most folks recall the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D.  That event, pictured in the picture today, occurred on the 9th of Av.

But that was not the only 'bad' thing that happened on the 9th of Av.

The Temple that was destroyed in 70 A.D. was known as the Second Temple.  But, guess what, the First Temple was also destroyed on a 9th of Av, in 586 B.C.

Now how unusual is that?

But, there is more!

The first recorded 9th of Av event was when 10 of the 12 spies sent by Moses to check out the land of Canaan before entering it  said to not enter the land.

This lack of faith on the part of the Israelites resulted in God making them wander in the wilderness for 40 years (See Numbers Chapters 13-14 for more details).

Since that first momentous 9th of Av event, there have been many more calamitous events including the expelling of the Jews from England in 1290 and from Spain in 1492.

World War 1 began on the 9th of Av in 1914.

in 1942, on the eve of Tisha B'Av, Jews were deported from the Warsaw Ghetto.

In 1994 the Jewish community center in Buenos Aires was bombed.

And this is not all that has happened on the 9th of Av.

So, the question one must ask is "what is the 'chance' that all these things happened by accident?"

The answer, of course, is that it is an astronomical 'chance' and thus it is obvious that there is a Divine influence re. this date.

To learn more about the 9th of Av, here are a two links that can give more details.

BMX Triple Backflip

Several DIT readers have grey hair or are 'first borns' and would never think of doing such a risky thing in 'real life' --

So today's DIT video will be a 'hair raiser' for them and possibly for the rest of you.

What is it this time? you ask.

Well, like Evel Knievel and other daredevils of old, another daredevil has done an amazing and scary thing.

This time it is a Triple Backflip on his BMX Bike.

Not a motorcycle bike like Evel usually used but a bicycle bike.

And thanks to the ability to have a camera on the rider's helmet, you, too, can experience the event as if you were the rider.

So, put on your virtual helmet and join the fun vicariously.  HERE'S THE LINK

New shipping routes over the North Pole

This is not really new news. Actually the article was posted on the internet in the summer of 2010 but we at DIT just never got around to mentioning it until now.

So, why bring this up now? you ask

Well, the article itself is not the important thing here so 2011 vs. 2010 is not the key thing.

What is important is the correlation that is apparent.

What correlation?

Well, the article to which we will link you -- tells how the ice over the Arctic had melted enough in 2010 so that seagoing vessels could go from Russian and other ports directly to ports in China without stopping.

So what is so amazing about this?

Well, of course this is good news for shippers in that they do not have to go so far to get their 'stuff' from here to there.

But, what is really significant is that this route reveals how people could and probably did travel to various places around the world after the Tower of Babel dispersion.

You see, for a few hundred years after the flood, the Arctic Ocean was not ice covered and icebound.

Rather, it was open water and could be readily sailed.

Thus, the routes from Europe to the Orient could be sailed over the 'top' of the world instead of 'round robin hood's barn' of crossing large land masses such as Russia and the N. American Continent in addition to crossing the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.

So, for several hundred years after the flood (of Noah) and the tower of Babel dispersion until the arctic froze over during the ice age, a similar situation likely existed as is beginning to occur again today -- i.e. ships could sail over the Arctic Ocean with no ice problems.

During that time folks could hop aboard boats and travel across the North Pole region (and probably across the South Pole region also if the truth were known although the ice at the south pole is actually covering land and is not a frozen sea as is the arctic) thereby cutting mega miles and much time off travel around the globe.

Hmmmmmm

Interesting.  And another evidence that the Bible events really happened. Imagine that!

Anyway, to read about what is going on in the Arctic now, while you think about what likely happened during the years after the Flood and after the Tower of Babel dispersion when there was no ice at all, HERE'S THE LINK

Joplin tornado survivor tells her story

We have mentioned the Joplin tornado previously here on DIT.

And now still another relating of the events of that day has appeared.

While checking out Facebook today, one of our 'friends' posted a link to this amazing first hand report of the tornado.

Not only does it tell what happened from a first person point of view --

It also gives good advice on how to live day by day, for as you read this person's telling of what happened, you will see what she determined to be 'the most important things in the world'.

For the perspective of what is really important in life and to read how God protected her and her husband, HERE'S THE LINK

Complex cells could not evolve from bacteria

Hmmm.  This should give the evolutionists pause.

But, as usual, it doesn't.

Why?

Because they think they have a workaround, but they don't.

Wondering what this is all about?

Well, it seems that a study published in the journal, Nature, "found that the total energy required to process eukaryotic DNA is far more than any bacterial system can produce. They therefore maintained that "mitochondria are prerequisite to [eukaryote] complexity."

But, rather than follow this to the logical conclusion that such a finding speaks against evolution, the scientists, have an 'idea' that they think might explain a way around the problem.

What is their 'idea' and does it really hold water?

Well, this brief article explains the possible 'work around' and why it really doesn't work. HERE'S THE LINK.

And perhaps you have still not 'done' your summer vacation.

Well, if not, a friend found this link that tells of several of America's most beautiful landmarks.

World's tiniest frogs

Hmmmm. Not so sure this is a good idea --

But, in case you have not been paying attention,  there is a lot of unusual breeding going on these days and this is just one more example.

For some reason, folks seem to think they can do 'better' than God did when it comes to plants and animals and even humans.

But, that is a topic for another time.

Yes, man has worked with various species of plants and animals and made many variations on God's original work.

But natural selection also has been at work.

For example, Dogs probably started out in the Wolf category when they came off Noah's ark.

Then, through the millennia, the various breeds and sub breeds developed, some by natural breeding and some by man's intervention.

Man's intervention has resulted in, for example, 4 sizes of poodles (Standard, Miniature, Toy, and Teacup).

So, these tiny frogs are rather like the 'teacup' poodles but they surely will not be as loving or as useful or as loyal as the poodle.

But, I digress.

Back to the topic of man's intervention vs the wonderful things that God did when He created --

We have mentioned this before on DIT but since the topic of frogs has come up again --

To read an article about some really amazing frogs that God created and what they can do -- which is a whole lot more useful and practical than just being small, HERE'S THE LINK

Pendulum Waves

Wow. This is really interesting.

What now? you ask.

Well, seems that the folks at Harvard have made a pendulum that is 'not your average bear' pendulum.

Instead of the normal back and forth motion one normally sees when a pendulum 'does its thing', this pendulum produces harmonic and non-harmonic motion.

Ok, I know that is a head scratcher so don't worry so much about the science (though they do include information as to how this is done).

Instead, enjoy the amazing movements of the pendulum in this
1 minute 45 sec video. HERE'S THE LINK

Billions of years ? Or a few thousand years ?

Many folks, both secular and Christian, believe in in the billions of years theory of evolution as taught in most schools and in the secular media.

Others try to 'compromise' the Biblical teachings with the 'evolutionary world views' and believe in such ideas as 'day age' theory, 'gap theory' and numerous other 'theories' which propose long long periods of time instead of the Biblical literal 7 Day Creation event which occurred only a few thousand years ago.

But does it matter whether the world and everything was created billions of years ago vs. only a short time ago as the Bible teaches?

Well, for those who believe in the long ages of millions and millions of years, regardless of which theory they espouse, this illustration from Answers In Genesis succinctly summarizes the 'results' of their belief.

HERE'S THE LINK
