Is There Geological evidence for a young earth?

As the brief article to which we are linking today points out,

the concept of a young earth is a real 'stumbling block' for folks today.

Why?

Because, with the seemingly endless statements, movies, books, articles, etc. stating repeatedly that the earth is old old old,

it is becoming a 'given' that the earth IS old.

But, is there Geological evidence for a young earth?

Indeed, there is.

In fact there is abundant evidence that the earth is not old but really is amazingly young.

This very brief article discusses a few of the many evidences which support a young earth instead of the proposition that it is millions or billions years old.

How to make a battery from coins

Now this is an interesting thing.

What?

Well, seems that a clever person has found a way to make a battery from coins, cardboard, vinegar, and aluminum foil.

No kidding.

It won't power much but it is very interesting.

And for those of you who are 'into' such things, you will find several more interesting things that he has made in the sidebar.

So, with that said,

Self Cleaning Clothes

No kidding

This is a brief article that is out there on the internet.

Hmmmm

A friend of DIT recently got all excited about some kind of cooking device that seemed to take the work out of grilling in a 'set it and forget it' way

though her husband wondered if it was also self cleaning

and she said "there is an app for that"

Oh, well.  Maybe there is an app for that but probably not

And this unusual idea might not come to fruition either

But just in case it does
HERE'S THE LINK to Self cleaning clothes could soon be available

Texas Aggies Comeback

Unless you have been on Mars or living under a rock, you are aware that it is March Madness time --

And madness is the correct term.

Why do I say that?

Well, the amazing 12 point comeback of Texas A&M over Northern Iowa in Basketball was 'madness' at its most exciting.

Usually the last minute or two of a basketball game takes f o r e v e r because the losing team is fouling fouling fouling -- hoping to gain some final points to win the game.

But in this amazing comeback, that was not the case and it is the dream that every fan and team has when they are behind.

'Never Never, Never give up!!!' is the idea.

And in this instance -- it worked. It got them into overtime and they eventually won the game. WOW

Even if you have seen the final 44 seconds of this game, you will want to watch it again and again and ...

HERE'S THE LINK to Texas A&M 12 point comeback in 44 seconds

Today is Resurrection Day (Easter Sunday)

Charles H. Spurgeon said:

"The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is one of the best attested facts on record.

There were so many witnesses to behold it, that if we do in the least degree receive the credibility of men’s testimonies, we cannot and we dare not doubt that Jesus rose from the dead.

It is all very easy for infidels to say that these persons were deceived,

but it is equally foolish, for these persons could not every one of them have been so positively deceived as to say that they had seen this man, whom they knew to have been dead, afterwards alive;

they could not all, surely, have agreed together to help on this imposture:

if they did, it is the most marvellous thing we have on record, that not one of them ever broke faith with the others, but that the whole mass of them remained firm.

We believe it to be quite impossible that so many rogues should have agreed for ever.

They were men who had nothing to gain by it;

they subjected themselves to persecution by affirming the very fact; they were ready to die for it, and did die for it.

Five hundred or a thousand persons who had seen him at different times, declared that they did see him, and that he rose from the dead; the fact of his death having been attested beforehand.

How, then, dare any man say that the Christian religion is not true, when we know for a certainty that Christ died and rose again from the dead?

And knowing that, who shall deny the divinity of the Savior? Who shall say that he is not mighty to save?

Our faith hath a solid basis, for it hath all these witnesses on which to rest, and the more sure witness of the Holy Spirit witnessing in our hearts."

The above quote is from:
Charles H. Spurgeon, vol. 2, Spurgeon's Sermons: Volume 2, electronic ed., Logos Library System; Spurgeon's Sermons (Albany, OR: Ages Software, 1998)., No 66 (exposition)

Yes, Jesus really did die and really did rise again 3 days later.

Why did He do this and what does it mean for us?

HERE'S THE LINK that explains Jesus' Resurrection

And since this is Resurrection Sunday, our hymn today is "Jesus Christ is Risen Today"

Jesus died for me (and you)

On Palm Sunday Jesus began the last days of His earthly life.

A few days later He died, being crucified on the Cross.

This picture shows a depiction of Christ's Entombment by the artist Caravaggio.

Saturday he was dead and lying in a tomb.

Why did He die?

This song explains. (Sorry about the drum beat but the words are powerful)

Today is "Good Friday"

Sunday, a few days ago, was Palm Sunday.

What is important about Palm Sunday?

Palm Sunday was the day that the Lord God Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem to begin his last days on earth.

Those days ended, a few days later, when He was crucified.

Why was He crucified and what are the eternal results of His death?

This brief article explains.

Pet Owners, here's a heads' up about Flea Poison

It is that time of the year.

What time?  It is spring time

And this means that people and pets will be spending more time outside.

But, if you have a pet (or know of someone who does), you need to be aware of this problem.

What problem?

A recent warning by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says  “Small dogs (and cats) prove susceptible to Flea Poison”

Hmmmm. Now this could be scary.

It seems that there have been reports that some of the topical application products to kill flees are more dangerous than previously thought.

If you have a pet using these products or know of someone using them, you might want to read the article.

Eternal Flames

Recently a friend of DIT found a link to a site that told of 10 Eternal Flames.

However, alas and alack, that site wouldn't load well on our computer -- it was apparently too busy and filled up the RAM.

So, searching around on the internet, we found another site that says it pictures 7 Eternal flames and included some of those in the list of the 10.

BUT, if you count as you watch the video, only 6 locations are depicted.

Hmmmm.  Oh, well --  10, 7, 6  -- whatever.  At least this is interesting.

The brief 1 minute 4 second video shows those 6 (instead of 7) Locations.

HERE'S THE LINK to 7 Eternal Flames in Nature You've Never Heard of

But, an even better video (of 2 minutes 39 seconds) shows 11 Eternal Flames.

Why?

Well, for one thing, joy and happiness, Spring begins today. Yes, it is the Spring Equinox at last. And that means the days will start getting longer and longer!

Also, it is Palm Sunday, the Sunday that began the last week of Jesus' earthly life.

Do you know what happened on Palm Sunday when Jesus entered Jerusalem?

For insight about Palm Sunday HERE'S A LINK

Elvis Buys Graceland on this day in 1957

Graceland was the home of Elvis Presley (pictured here from Wikipedia via Flickr, as photographed by Joseph Novak in March 2011)

Elvis?  Graceland?

Most folks (well, the older ones today) are very familiar with Elvis Presley and many were his fans.

Indeed, he was the 'cat's meow' 'back in the day'.

Elvis purchased Graceland, his home in Memphis, TN,  on this day, March 19, in 1957.

According to a calendar given to us by 2 friends of DIT, Elvis put $1,000 down to purchase it (the total purchase price was $102,500).

To learn more about and see many pictures of Graceland, HERE'S THE LINK

In addition to his 'Rock and Roll' music, he also loved to sing Hymns.

HERE IS THE LINK to Amazing Grace, one of the many hymns which Elvis sang.

The Sultana Disaster

The Steamship pictured here is of the Sultana. It was taken in 1865 after the close of the Civil War and shortly before the disaster.

A friend of DIT recently went to a lecture in Arkansas which told of the Sultana Disaster.

The lecturer was Historian Louis Intres, an expert on the topic and Professor of History at the University of Arkansas.

He gave a brief summary of the sinking of the Sultana.

He also told of a museum in Marion Arkansas which opened in April 2015 on the 150th anniversary of the disaster and contains relics and details of the event.

HERE'S THE LINK to The video about the museum.

And HERE'S THE LINK that tells of the disaster.

Mandala Coloring Books

Recently, as a gift, I received two Coloring books complete with wonderful pre-sharpened wooden coloring pencils and a collection of Pencil Sharpeners.

So, are you a child? you ask.

No, not a child - a serious big time old person

But as you have probably noticed -- Adult Coloring Books are 'in'.

You see them advertised on TV and on the shelves of many stores.

They are a fad and folks are snapping them up and happily coloring the various pictures.

But, guess what

What?

Not all of these coloring Books are 'safe'!

Safe?  what do you mean?

Well, this brief article will explain.

HERE'S THE LINK to adult coloring books and mandalas

Fortunately the coloring books I received were not the Mandala kind and I love them.

By the way, the picture above for today's DIT is a Mandala. it is a 17th century painting titled the "Tibetan 'Five Deity Mandala" and was posted on Wikipedia accompanying an article about Mandalas.

Dinosaurs and Man at the same time?

The Link today is actually an advertisement for a Video and, as you know, we don't usually link to something to buy.

But, you really don't have to buy the video

because the Trailer has enough interesting information to serve as a DIT.

If you do opt to purchase the video, or any of the other items on the page, you will be on safe ground, as Answers in Genesis recommendations and items are always good.

Today is the Ides of March

The coin pictured here is, according to Wikipedia, the "Reverse side of a coin issued by Caesar's assassin Brutus in the autumn of 42 BC, with the abbreviation EID MAR (Eidibus Martiis - on the Ides of March) under a "cap of freedom" between two daggers

Ides of March?  What is that? you ask

Well, for the youngsters who are now 'educationally challenged', this is likely a new concept.

But older folks who went to school when subjects such as Latin, Literature, World History, etc. were taught, you know about the Ides of March.

Either way, this is an important historical day.

To learn about it or refresh your memory

Set your clocks before you go to bed tonight

Why?

Because Daylight Savings ENDS on Sunday.

So, it is time to SPRING FORWARD.

This means when you go to bed tonight, you will get less sleep.

Why?

Because at 2 AM on Sunday, while you are hopefully sleeping, clocks will spring forward and

When you wake up on Sunday, it will be later than you think, if you don't plan ahead.

So today's DIT is to remind you to set your clocks before you go to bed tonight.

And, if you are wondering about Daylight Savings time, why we have it, and what to do ---

March Madness rules can cause upsets?

It is March Madness time and College Basketball fans are either enjoying or anticipating exciting College Basketball games.

But, interestingly, there have been some changes to the rules this year.

Some of these changes, according to various 'experts', may actually cause some upsets in some of the games.

Oh No!

Why?

What are these rules?

Well, this link will tell you.

Alas, there is a commercial that comes first but hang in there and endure it because the video of explanation is worth the wait.

Today is National Landline Telephone Day

Today, March 10 is National Landline Telephone Day

According to a calendar thing given to us by a friend of DIT, "On this day in 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first ever telephone call. This is a day to celebrate your landline, if you still have one."

Some folks, believe it or not still have a Landline phone.

Why? "because (according to the calendar thing)… it still works when the power goes out and it never needs to be charged."

Well that is good and fine but more and more folks are giving up their landlines.  And many young folks have never even seen a landline telephone.

Oh, Well.

So, for those of you who no longer have or care about Landline Telephones, there is another big holiday today.

What is it? you ask.   Welllllll

It is also Popcorn Lover's Day.  WOW.  Joy and Happiness.

No Kidding. It Really is.

What is a Fairy-tale Ark and Why is it Dangerous

Answers In Genesis is building a life size Ark, like the one in Genesis.  Pictured here is one of the images of how it will look.

The Ark will be 550 feet long (about the length of 2 football fields) and 60 feet high.

It will include animals (some living and some as statues).

This huge exhibit is scheduled to open July 7, 2016.

It is going to be a 'must see' and 'must experience'. Indeed, you and your family and friends should consider making vacation plans to go see it.

But in the meantime, folks around the country and around the world are still looking at "Fairy-tail Arks".

What do you mean? you ask.

Well, this brief article will explain.

How to use a SAM Splint

Several DITers are very active sports types.

They snow ski, scuba dive, play soccer and baseball, participate in Marathons and other races, and etc etc etc.

So far they have escaped most of these adventures relatively 'unharmed' but it is always good to know what to do just in case.

So today, let's learn how to use a SAM Splint to immobilize fractures and soft tissue injuries

What is a SAM splint?

SAM is the acronym for Structural Aluminum Malleable

And this video will show you how to put one on.

Here's hoping you never need to do this but just in case

Presidential Inaugrations used to be on March 4

We are in a busy political year of selecting the next President of the United States, who will be sworn in on Jan 20, 2017.

But did you know that Jan 20 was not always the date for the Inaugural ceremonies?

The very first Inaugural Ceremony was, of course, of George Washington, and it was held on April 30, 1789 at the Federal Hall in New York City.

George Washington's second inauguration was on March 4, 1793.

Pictured here is a Postcard depicting the Second Inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt which was held on March 4, 1905, in Washington D.C.

In fact, From 1793 until 1933 all the inaugurations were held on March 4 (or on March 5 if the 4th fell on a Sunday).

Why?  Mainly because the weather made transportation difficult until the spring (or so I have heard).

But, due to the passage of the 20th amendment to the US Constitution, the March 4 date was changed to January 20 (or the 21st if the 20th is on a Sunday.)

Apparently transportation problems due to weather had improved sufficiently to do away with the March 4 date.

So, beginning in 1937 and continuing to the present, Presidents were and are inaugurated on January 20 (or on the 21st if the 20th is on a Sunday)

Interesting !!

Monty Williams speaks at wife's funeral

Monty Williams is the Assistant Coach of the OKC Thunder NBA Professional Basketball Team.

His wife, Ingrid, was tragically killed after injuries suffered in a car crash in south Oklahoma City.

The NewsOKBlogs posted a video of his comments at the funeral.

Since I last looked at this video the OKBlogs has included a survey which it says you must take to view the video. BUT you do NOT have to take the survey -- scroll down a tad and you will find a place where you can skip the survey -- so click on that and the video will begin.

With that as a caveat, do take or skip the survey because you really must watch this short 7 minute video.

It is indeed powerful.

HERE'S THE LINK to Monty Williams delivers powerful message of forgiveness.
