Today is Reformation Day

Exactly 500 years ago today, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church in Germany.

And, wow, the events that happened after that "sparked a reformation throughout Europe" and ultimately the entire world.

The article to which we are linking explains.

HERE'S THE LINK to The Reformation of the 16th Century

Tomorrow is Halloween? or Reformation day?

October 31 is usually known and celebrated as Halloween.

But, there is another and more important reason why this day should be remembered.

Which (pun intended although the spelling is different) do you think of when you see this date on the calendar?  Halloween? or the Reformation?

Probably you think of Halloween --

But are you aware that it was on Oct 31, 1517, when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg Church and began what is now known as the Protestant Reformation?

Likely your children, grandchildren, neighbors, or whomever are ‘celebrating’ the Halloween aspect of this date by either ‘trick or treating’ or having some kind of Church event which is semi-incorporating an observance of the witches halloween, either calling it a ‘fall festival’ or some other ‘innocent’ sounding name.

Indeed, many folks today decorate their yards and houses with goblins, ghosts,  pumpkins, etc. But, should they or you even celebrate Halloween at all?

There are many excellent articles and resources that explain why observance of Halloween is NOT a good thing.  You can find some of them HERE, HERE, HERE, and HERE.

So, rather than celebrating Halloween, how about thinking about the Reformation and the positive results that came from it.

Your Church might even want to have a “Reformation Party” or event with videos, talks, whatever, telling about what happened and why.

One of the reasons our Churches are in the mess they are in today is because folks do NOT know about the Reformation, what it accomplished, why it is important, and what will result if we abandon what it accomplished.

So, forget Halloween and begin to think instead about the Reformation when you see Oct 31 roll around on your calendar.

Butterfly Colors

While observing Butterflies, have you wondered about their brilliant colors?

Well, Jonathan Sarfati has written a very interesting article that explains about "Butterfly brilliance".

He says it is due to "dual diffraction gratings which produce two colour signals."

What??? (And, yes, I know, colour is not spelled like that in the US but Dr. Sarfati lives in Australia.)

Anyway, to read his article and learn about 'dual diffraction gratings', which is obviously something that only God (and not evolution) would do

The Butterfly forest

Winter will soon be here and the butterflies know it.

So what do they do?

Well, amazingly they go for a trip -- Monarch Butterflies fly hundreds or thousands of miles from the USA and Canada and other Northern Climes to Mexico where they stay for the winter.

Other Monarchs fly to Australia and elsewhere.

Imagine that !!!! Flying thousands and thousands of miles with those tiny thin wispy looking wings.  Wow. Amazing.

There are several videos on the internet that show this.

The one we have selected for today is about 1 ½ minutes long and shows the Monarchs arriving in Mexico.

Prepare to be amazed.

Hymn: When I survey the Wondrous Cross

Recently, Sept 29, Yom Kippur was celebrated.

As you will recall, Yom Kippur, the Jewish Feast Day of Atonement, was observed annually in the Old Testament Times by the sacrifice of a Lamb.

The sacrifice was for the purpose of atoning for the sins of the people.

But, an annual lamb sacrifice was unable to provide complete and total forever sacrifice -- rather it was a picture of the coming one time for all perfect sacrifice

and that was the sacrifice of the Lord God Jesus Christ, who came to earth to become the perfect sinless Lamb of God.

He died on Calvary, as the Lamb of God, that had been pictured for centuries and centuries in the annual observance of Yom Kippur.

The final perfect atoning sacrifice was made when the Lord God Jesus Christ died on the cross at Calvary --

Why did He die?

He died to pay the required death penalty for all the sins of all mankind forever --

Today's Hymn tells what this accomplished, why, and how we should individually respond.

The Golden Rule

You are probably very familiar with the "Golden Rule"

The Scripture upon which it is based is Matthew 7:12

“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you,
do ye even so to them:
for this is the law and the prophets”

But what does this mean?  Is this a way to obtain Salvation?  Or what?

To find out
