Today is National Bird Watching (Birding) Day

Well, as you know, cats watch birds all the time --

And they are not doing it for the same reason that Birders do!

Birders?  What is that? you ask.

Well Birders are folks who have the hobby of observing as many birds as they can.

And, guess what, today is National Bird Watching day.

And even if you are not a birder, get outside and see what you can see.

You just might be amazed.

If you don't know how or what to do, we found a cool website with lots and lots of  information that will assist you in this fun activity.

And just because today is the 'official' day to check out the Birds, remember this is an activity that can keep you interested and busy the entire year.

So, with that by way of introduction --

Little Grand Canyon

Everyone has heard of the Grand Canyon in the USA --

And many of you have seen it in person.

Those of you who haven't seen it have surely seen pictures of it.

And as you viewed it, either in person or the photos, you have noticed and  likely wondered about the many many layers and why they are so flat and level -- like a stack of pancakes.

As you wondered you were repeatedly told that it took millions of years to form the stack of layers and that it usually it took about a million years to form each layer.

You were also told that it took thousands of years or more for the Colorado River to be formed.

But, you thought -- if that is true, where is the erosion in the layers that should have occurred?

And How can a layer sit for a million years with no erosion when I see erosion constantly occurring in my yard in just hours and days !

Good questions and good thinking.

Today's video will explain.

Selah

If you have read the Bible at all you have doubtless come across the Hebrew word 'SELAH' which is often seen in the Psalms as well as in other locations in the Old Testament.

For example, here's a text that uses SELAH:

Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
                   Psalm 3: 2

But the question is -- ?why is this Hebrew word inserted in its Hebrew form when all the rest of the Hebrew words are changed into English or some other language depending on what Bible you are reading?

In other words -- what does SELAH mean?

For the answer to what does SELAH mean CLICK HERE

The Shot Heard around the World

Today the folks in the USA celebrate a very important event.

What is it? you ask.

Well This picture of of the Minute Man Statue is a hint.

It is located at the North Bridge in Concord, Massachusetts -- the location where the Shot Heard around the World occurred.

So what was so important about that shot? you ask --

Well it is important because

On April 19, 1775, the Revolutionary War (that ultimately ended with the formation of the United States of America) began with the 'shot heard around the world'.

Wow!   Now that was an important shot !!!

For some information about this very important event

Isaiah 53

Last week, culminating yesterday on Sunday, the world recalled and celebrated the death, burial, and resurrection of The Son of God, Jesus Christ.

There is a chapter in the Old Testament Book of Isaiah which predicted and prophesied that Jesus' sacrificial death would occur.

This prediction was given in approximately 712 BC. Wow!

So what did this Chapter predict? And do you see its fulfillment in the death of Jesus Christ.

Are you washed in the Blood?

This is Passover week

And we have been contemplating how the events of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt and the annual Seder Supper observance of that event actually provide pictures /  types / and prophetic fulfillments of the Lord God Jesus Christ.

Again, if you did not watch the video to which we linked on Monday of this week, watch it now because it explains in detail what we are saying.

In the Exodus -- the blood of a slain lamb provided protection from the death of the firstborn of the houses of those who put the blood on the doorposts.

This pictured the protection provided by the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who provides protection from an eternity in hell if a person (you, me, anyone) accepts His substitute sacrifice for their sins.

This Hymn clearly explains what the Blood of the Lamb of God (Jesus) does.

Today is Good Friday

Today the world historically considers this to be the day that Christ died.

Some argue that Friday was not the day -- rather that He died on a Wednesday.

This Link proposes that Christ died on a Wednesday

This is a debate that has gone on for centuries and continues to this day.

We post it now just so you will know that the concept is "out there".

But whether Christ died on a Wednesday, or a Thursday, or a Friday is not the main point.

The main thing is that Christ Died and the reason for His death was to provide us a way of salvation and escape from eternity in Hell which would be the price we will have to pay for our sins if they remain unforgiven and not paid for.

But Christ's sinless life and blood sacrifice by his death on the cross provides the substitutionary atonement (payment) for individuals from their sins (if they accept this gift of Christ's death for theirs).

The night of the Passover Exodus in which the Jews put the blood of a lamb on the doorposts of their houses -- and thus avoided the death of the firstborn -- was a picture of the future death / blood sacrifice of The Lord God Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, to pay the penalty for the sins of mankind.

Anyone who believes in and accepts Jesus' gift of His life for theirs (yours, mine) will live eternally with Him in heaven and will escape the penalty of eternal punishment for their sins in hell.

That is what Good Friday (or Wednesday or Thursday) really means.

The question for you then is:

Have you accepted Jesus' gift of His life/death for yours?

For God so loved the world
That He gave His only beloved son
(Jesus, the Lamb of God)
That whosoever believes in Him
Shall not perish
but have everlasting life.

              John 3:16 KJV

God's Hidden Symbol

We have been thinking about Passover this week

and how Jesus was and is prefigured in the Seder Supper and events relating to the Exodus of the Jewish nation from Egypt during the Passover event.

As you well know, Jesus, as the Lamb of God, died on the cross to provide salvation for those who accept His gift of substitutionary atonement.

But did you know that Jesus is not only pictured in the Passover Exodus and the Seder supper (among other things), something really significant about Him and His death is also pictured in our bodies!

Yes.  No Kidding.

The Lord's Supper (The Last Supper)

...And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it,

and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,

Drink ye all of it;

For this is my blood of the new testament,

which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine,

until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. ...

           Matthew 26:26-29 KJV

These were the words of the Lord God Jesus Christ at the time of the Last supper before He was crucified. If you watched the video yesterday about the Seder Supper of Passover, you understand the meaning of these words.  If you did not watch it yet -- I urge you to watch the video asap because it will clarify and clearly explain the somewhat confusing concepts of Jesus' body and blood (bread and wine)

Passover (Pesach) begins today

Passover this year is from April 10 through 17.

It begins with the Seder Supper.

So What exactly is Passover?

Well, Passover celebrates the departure (exodus) of the Jewish Nation from Egypt after about 400 years of living in Egypt, most of that time in slavery.

If you are rusty on those events, check out the Biblical account in Exodus 12. HERE'S THE LINK

The Passover Super observed at the time of the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt is now observed annually as a memorial of that miraculous Exodus.

It reveals not only reminders of that past event --

but it also reveals significant types / prophetic pictures pointing to future events.

There are many things eaten and done during the Seder Supper, each with significant symbolism.

Today we are linking to a very interesting and informative video by David Brickner, the Director for the Jews for Jesus Ministry. It was presented at a Church worship service and explains what the various elements of the Seder supper commemorate --

but more importantly -- it explains what the various elements and activities reveal as prophetic pictures.

Whether you are a Christian or a Jew --this is definitely a must watch video.  So carve out some time (about 26 minutes) and prepare to learn a lot.

World's Largest 10 Commandments

A friend of DIT who loves to travel told us of this most unusual site.

Seems there is a place in North Carolina that has one of -- if not the -- largest depiction of the 10 Commandments.

It is located in Murphy N.C.

The individual letters are made of concrete and are 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide.  WOW.

This is definitely a place that you should put on your 'bucket list' of things to see.

Texting while Driving

You probably heard of the terrible accident in Texas last week.

A pickup truck collided with a Church van.

13 People in the van were killed.

The driver of the pickup and one person in the van survived.

Reports are now indicating that the cause of the accident was because the driver of the pickup truck was texting.

We have been told repeatedly to NOT text and drive.  Indeed in some states it is a crime to text and drive.

However most people think they can text and drive with no problem.  Is this accurate?

Well actually, NO.

The link today is to a short video showing a driver driving while texting.  Notice how many times there is almost an accident until ---
