World's Worst Hunter vs. Stupid Deer

Recently while driving back from a fun Thanksgiving visit, we saw 7 deer who had met their demise by being struck on the highway.

Seeing those dead deer reminded me that this is also Deer Hunting season.

So even more are likely meeting their demise.

However, there is one deer that is verrrrrrry lucky.

It was on a road and even survived the Deer Hunting efforts of a hunter.

As the title of today's DIT indicates, this deer was either very lucky or the hunter was a really bad shot.

Antipodes

Antipodes !

What's that?

Well, "Antipodes are points diametrically opposite each other on the Earth’s surface."

When you were a kid, you were often told that if you dug a deep deep hole in your backyard you would end up in China.

That location, if true, would be an Antipode.

Though, as you might imagine, not every deep hole would end up in China. Most of them would probably end up in either the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans.

But where might you end up?

RSNA

What is RSNA?

RSNA is 'short' for Radiological Society of North America.

It is the premier meeting for Radiologists not only in North America but around the entire globe.

It meets annually for a week at this time of the year, usually in Chicago.

Why are we mentioning this now? you ask.

Well, in addition to this being the most important and cutting edge assembly for Radiologists, Radiological Physicists, and other related Health Professionals, 

RSNA also has recently developed a website that will likely be of interest to you,  your family, or your friends.

What?

Yes. RSNA has a website with information for patients about studies they might be getting.

So, if you have had or been told to have such studies as MRI, CT, PET scans, etc. etc. etc. and are wondering what this entails, this website will provide much needed information.

Happy Thanksgiving

In America, today is Thanksgiving Day.

This is the day that folks travel to grandmother’s house or some similar place to gather with family and friends and observe one of the most favorite and special times of the year, Thanksgiving.


Some will have large gatherings and bountiful meals, others smaller groups and not so much.

But all who truly understand this special Holiday will give thanks on this day to God for our many blessings.

History books when I was a child (long long ago when Dinosaurs roamed the earth) told the correct history of Thanksgiving.

But, alas, since those days there have been many revisions and deletions concerning its origin and true meaning.

Folks who know the poster of these DITs are well aware that this one today is a Hoot and they are wondering how this happened.

Why?

Because this poster person is NOT know for being a cook (though IS known for being a big happy enthusiastic eater of other folks creations.)

But, Thanksgiving time is almost here and likely many DIT readers are cooks and are always on the lookout for wonderful new ways to make yummy foods.

I haven't tried this recipe, of course, being a non-cook.  But it sounds interesting.

The Gettysburg Address



On this day, November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the now famous Gettysburg Address.

That was almost 150 years ago, well technically 149 years ago.


It is still an awesome speech and worth remembering:


"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. 

We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.

The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. 

It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

World's smallest Frog

Recently a DIT reader told us about this 'find'

So we went surfing and found a picture and a link.

Of what?

Well, it seems that the smallest frog in Northern Hemisphere has been found and  is the same tiny size as the smallest frog in the Southern Hemisphere.

This means it is reallllllly small and surely is an award winning frog.     : )

Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Yesterday was Veteran's day. 

Today let's think about our veterans again.

As you know, in Washington DC there is a very famous tomb.

It is the Tomb of the Unknown soldier and is guarded rain or shine, good weather or severe, 24 7.

Who is the Unknown Soldier in that tomb?

Well, actually, there are more than one.

The first was an unknown Soldier from the First World War.

But others have been placed there from other wars since that time.
