Sunday Hymn -- "I'd rather have Jesus"

George Beverly Shea, "America's beloved Gospel Singer" and Soloist for the Billy Graham Crusades for decades, passed away a few days ago.

He was 104 years old.

We mentioned his passing in the DIT on Thursday April 18, 2013.  If you didn't see that DIT, you will want to check it out as it has links to information about his music,  life, and achievements.

But back to the topic at hand -- which is our Sunday Hymn

You surely recall his deep Baritone voice singing Hymns such as "How Great Thou Art", "Old Rugged Cross", "It is no Secret", and many many more.

The Hymn to which we are linking today, "I'd rather have Jesus", was sung by him at many Billy Graham Crusades including one in Florida in 1983.

You will be interested to know that although he didn't write the words to this song,  he did write the music for it.

Some readers of DIT may recall a person named "Poppa Bear".  This was his favorite hymn.  Perhaps it is yours also.
