Washington’s Birthday (President’s Day)

As you know, George Washington was the First President of the United States.

He served two terms as President, the first being from 1789-1793 and the second from 1793 to 1797.

Interestingly, according to the National Archives of the U.S. Gov., “George Washington was born in Virginia on February 11, 1731, according to the then-used Julian calendar. In 1752, however, Britain and all its colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar, which placed Washington's birth on February 22, 1732.”

Even though Feb. 22, (or Feb. 11) 1732 is the real date of George Washington’s Birthday, it is now celebrated as “President’s Day” on the third Monday of February each year.
