This picture from demotix.com shows some of the treasure and one of the Archaeologists involved in the discovery.

So what are these artifacts and how do they relate to the temple?

This brief video will explain and will show the artifacts.

35 Everyday Things under a Microscope

Wow.

This is amazing.

A friend of DIT sent an email with these pictures in it.

But, emails are almost impossible to transform into a DIT so we searched the web and found the source.

Soooooooo

Now you can also see these amazing everyday things as they appear under a microscope.

You are going to love this.

This will make you want to get out your microscope and see what else is around your house.

(Though some of these pictures were made with the electron microscope which is, of course, not your 'household' item)

Today is Memorial day

Is your flay flying?

Why should it be flying? you ask.

“Old Folks” understand the meaning and the why of Memorial Day but, alas, I fear that most “young folks” today think it is just another 3 day holiday and a time for fun.

But is it? Should we look at it as just another occasion for cookouts, the opening of swimming pools, the beginning of summer vacations, and goofing off?

I remember my Parents and Grandparents putting flowers and flags on graves (of military and family) and referring to this special day as “Decoration Day”, its original name. The name was changed to Memorial Day after World War I, but they still referred to it as Decoration Day.

So, what exactly IS Decoration Day / Memorial day and why do we observe it?

The opening paragraph in Wikipedia says:

“Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.”

So, Memorial day is a special time to remember the cost of Freedom.

This video will further explain. Be sure your sound is on.

The Rosy Maple Moth

Wow, this is not only a colorful moth --

But its coloration  serves several purposes.

A friend of DIT found this and sent it to us.  It is such an interesting moth that we thought you would like to know about it also.

This picture of the Rosy Maple Moth was taken by Rhododentrites  and was on Wikipedia.

But, the picture in the article to which we will be linking is really better and more colorful.

The article summarizes some of the functions of the unusual color of this moth.

But the question for you to consider, which, of course, is not mentioned in the article, is --

How and why did the Rosy Maple moth get this coloration?  Did it happen by evolutionary chance?  Or was it designed that way by the Creator God?

And now, with that by way of introduction

The Snow Diving fox hunt

While we are reminiscing about winter,

Here's a video that is really amazing.

A friend of DIT found it for us.

What is it?

Well, it shows a fox hunting for its meal.

Nothing too unusual about that -- except that the meal is under 3 feet of snow.

This is another one of those "How did this happen by chance and evolution" head scratchers.

More logical is that the fox is was designed to be able to do this when Created by the Creator / Designer God.

Today is Armed Forces Day -- Is your flag flying?

What is Armed Forces day?

Well, according to Wikipedia:

"In the United States, Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May. It falls near the end of Armed Forces Week, which begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May.

"The day was created in 1949 to honor Americans serving in the five U.S. military branches – the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard – following the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense.

"It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but the separate days are still observed, especially within the respective services.

"The first Armed Forces Day was celebrated by parades, open houses, receptions and air shows.

"In 1962, President Kennedy established Armed Forces Day as an official holiday.

"The United States' longest running city-sponsored Armed Forces Day Parade is held in Bremerton, Washington. In 2009, Bremerton celebrated the 61st Armed Forces Day Parade.

"Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May. "

And now you know the 'rest of the story'.

This is the title of a very interesting and true story.

A friend of DIT found this.

Seems that there is a small island in Thailand called "Koh Panyee".

Actually it is not an island as most folks think of such.

Rather it is a floating village in the sea with almost no space and no dirt / soil.

Mosaiculture

Mosaiculture?

What is that?

Well, as explained in the email that accompanied today's Interesting thing:

"Once every three years, there is an international competition in
horticultural sculpture, called "mosaiculture," in a major city in the world. ...

This is not topiary but rather creating sculptures out of living plants.

The greatest horticulturalists in the world, from 20 different countries, submitted plans a year in advance.

Steel armatures were then created to support the works (some 40 feet high); they were then wrapped in steel mesh and filled with dirt and moss and watering hoses.

Then they ordered 3 million plants of different shades of green and brown and tan, and these were grown in greenhouses ….

In late May, these horticulturalists came to Montreal and planted all of their plants in the forms at the Montreal Botanic Gardens, …

There were 50 major sculptures along a path two miles long."

This is awesome.  Check it out.

Sunday Hymn - Are you washed in the blood

Today's hymn is a favorite of many.

It is often used as an "Invitation Hymn" --

And, as such, is especially appropriate for a Hymn which is sung during Passover and Easter (Resurrection Sunday).

Why?

Well, because The Lord God Jesus Christ shed His blood as He died in order to provide everyone an opportunity to accept His substitute sacrifice for their sins.

Why is this important?

Because, unless a person is "washed in the blood of Jesus" he / she can not spend eternity with Christ, God the Father, the Holy Spirit, and the believers in heaven.

Think about this as you sing along with this Hymn.

Today is Resurrection Sunday

Almost 2000 years ago, The Lord God Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the required death penalty for my (and everyone’s) sins.

Three days and nights passed while he was in the grave.

But then, HE  AROSE  from the dead !!!

He was Resurrected to new life!!!

And because He arose, we, too, can live with Him forever
        IF
we confess and turn from our sins
        and
accept the free gift of His substitute death as payment for our sins.

Jesus explained this amazing transaction to Nicodemus in these words:

                     John 3:14-18...
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ...

What is my response to this?

Well, Robert Shaw, the Chamber Singers, and the Atlanta Symphony orchestra express my response in this 3 minutes 28 seconds video.

Today is Passover (Pesach)

Well, technically, according to the way the Jewish calendar works, Passover 2014 is a 7 day holiday (feast) which in 2014 begins in the evening of Monday, April 14 and ends in the evening of Tuesday, April 22

This is because on the Jewish calendar a day begins at sunset of the previous day.

So, technically, Passover begins this year (2014) at Sunset on April 14th.

But on the Western calendar folks tend to think of Passover beginning a few hours later at Midnight when April 15 begins.

Yes, I know -- kinda confusing -- but that is how the Jewish Calendar works.

Now, with that aside.

What exactly IS Passover ?

Well, you are likely aware that Passover celebrates the departure (exodus) of the Jewish Nation from Egypt after about 400 years of living in Egypt, most of that time in slavery.

If you are rusty on those events, check out the Biblical account in Exodus 12.  HERE'S THE LINK

The Holiday / Feast activities and celebrations observed today are not only reminders of that past event but

they are also types / prophetic pictures pointing to future events.

For example -- The Jewish Seder Supper is observed at Passover.

There are many things eaten during this Seder, each with significant symbolism.

Two of these 'special things' are the Afikomen and the Zeroa.

What are they? And why are these important to both Jews and Gentiles (everyone else) ?

An eclipse of the Moon

This eclipse is the first of 4 very interesting eclipses occuring this year and next year.

The first of the 4 takes place on April 15.

So, why are we telling you about it now instead of tomorrow? you ask.

Well, mainly because it will occur during the predawn hours of April 15, so if you are going to go outside and view it, you need this heads up.

These 4 eclipses are called 'blood moon' eclipses because of the red color produced on the moon during the eclipse.

A brief video gives insight about these 4 eclipses, how and why eclipses occur, and why they are 'blood moon' red in color.

Unfortunately there is a short commercial before the video and there is no way to stop it… so grin and bear it.

An interesting omission in the video is that it does not tell you that these eclipses are on the Jewish holidays of Passover and Tabernacles (Succoth) in both 2014 and 2015.  Hmmm.  Interesting.

And now, with that by way of introduction, HERE'S THE LINK to April 15 Blood Moon Eclipse
