According to Wikipedia, 10,264 Allies (USA, UK, and Canada) and between 4-6000 of the enemy (Germans, etc) were killed, wounded, missing, or captured ! WOW. Freedom comes at a very costly price!
The movie, Saving Private Ryan, vividly portrays the awfulness of war and of this invasion in particular.
