"Baby" Christopher Update

Today, Saturday, Nov 30, Baby Christopher is no longer a baby.

This is his Birthday

and he is now 4 years old !!! Wow.

Many of you have followed his 'health adventures' from the very beginning 4 years ago.

You know that he was born with serious Heart defects which required a Cardiac Transplant shortly after birth.

Then he spent over a year in the Hospital -- actually close to two years all together.

He not only had a Heart Transplant but later had to have a KidneyTransplant  because of Renal failure that occurred after the heart surgery.

It was a long and tedious time.

If you don't know his story, type "Baby Christopher" in the search box in the upper left corner of this page and you will find many articles, postings and links.

Bottom Line: thanks to your prayers and the abilities of the Docs, Nurses, and all other medical folks, he is now 4 years old and an amazing little kiddo.

His older brother and sister have made several videos about his adventures.

One we are posting today so you can see how he is doing.

It is titled "Christopher's Story - This summer coming to a city near you".

The reason for the title is that in the summer of 2013, he and his family moved from Oregon to Oklahoma -- a location that is much closer to his relatives.

So with that by way of introduction,

HERE'S THE LINK to Christopher's Story - This summer coming to a city near you

What to do with the Leftovers

Yesterday was a day of feast and plenty.  And, ooooh what a good time everyone had and yum yum were all the dishes.

Yes, the Thanksgiving meal was wonderful and bountiful.

But now there are lots and lots of leftovers.

So what to do?  This is too tasty to throw out.

The famous turkey sandwich route is a staple left over ‘idea’.

But what else?

Well, with this question in mind and needing some answers, here are a few sites with some really tasty and creative suggestions about what to do with those leftovers.

and if that isn’t enough HERE’S ONE MORE link to Turkey leftovers

Today is Thanksgiving Day

Today is Thanksgiving -- perhaps my favorite holiday of the year.

Why?

Well, certainly because of the yummy food and fun fellowship with family and friends --

But also and especially because of how and why this special day originated.

You have heard many stories about the origin of this special day.

And you may have heard of Squanto and his role in the occasion.

Recently an article in an email from the Khouse.org eNews had a really good summary of the events that preceded and ultimately resulted in the origin of this very special and important Holiday.

And it tells of the role of Squanto.

Even if you have heard about him before, I think you will find this brief article to be very important, interesting, and instructive.

In fact, you might even want to print it out and read it aloud as you gather around the Thanksgiving table today.

Evolutionism -- Is there such a word?

This is the title of a very thought provoking article by Dr. Menton.

In fact, it is a 'must read' article.

Why?

Because there are some very profound insights concerning the word, Evolutionism (which apparently is NOT a word in most dictionaries) and Creationism, which is a word.

Hmmmm.

Put on your Thinking Cap and check this out.

What's a Moonpool?

Have you heard of a Moonpool?

Well, if you have read and thought much about Noah's Ark, you probably have heard of a moonpool and know its function.

But, whether you already know or if this is a first time acquaintance with this important concept, you will find this very brief article verrrrrry interesting.

Cute puppy lends a paw

All you dog lovers out there will really appreciate this video.

A friend of DIT found it.

What is it? you ask.

Well, as suggested in the title, one dog is going to help another.

But rather than telling you 'how' the puppy helps, you can find out for yourself by watching this 43 second video.

Sunday Anthem

It is Sunday and time for our Special Music.

Today our Anthem is very short but beautiful.

It is what we used to call "High Church" music years ago when our Choir sang it.

But then almost all of the songs our Choir sang when we were much younger were "High Church" and everyone loved them.

So what is it this time you ask?

Well, it is Gloria in D Major by Vivaldi.

This particular version is by a Choir and Orchestra … all in latin and only  54 seconds long.

Why Did Jesus weep?

John 11:35 is known as the shortest verse in the Bible.

What does it say?

It says "Jesus wept."

But this is not the only place where the Bible records Jesus weeping, crying, or lamenting certain situations.

So the question is -- WHY did Jesus weep -- in the instance of the shortest verse in the Bible as well as on numerous other occasions.

For an answer to this question

Porcupine Quill - A surgical staple

Porcupine ?   You mean the animal Porcupine?

Yes, that is exactly what we mean.

The very same animal just like the spiny-quilly one pictured here (photographed by Mary Harrsch and posted on Wikipedia).

Today's DIT is another example of people copying something the Creator God did when He made things.

In this case, it has to do with the Porcupine.

And it seems that the quills have characteristics that man has adapted to use in Surgery.

Want to know more?

Thought you did.

Neanderthals / Cavemen

Everyone has heard about Neanderthals.

They are also commonly called Cavemen.

When folks talk about Cavemen / Neanderthals they often conjure up images such as the one pictured here, or of the Flintstones, or the commercials that featured them.

But who were they really?

When did they really live?

What did they do?

An interesting and verrrrry short article will give you important insights about "your not so ancient relatives".

"Mars, a Testament to Catastrophe"

Yesterday, the USA launched a Rocket to Mars.

It is expected to arrive in September of 2014.

On board will be a robotic scout named Maven.

Its mission is to try to determine why and when the Martian landscape changed.

Changed?

Yes, it seems that the landscape shows evidence of some kind of humongous catastrophe in the past.

The Scientists who will be studying the Martian landscape will be wearing their old earth (evolutionary) glasses.

Other Scientists wearing young earth glasses have written an article which will be of great interest to you.

Sunday Hymn - To God be the Glory

Yesterday we read about the Firefly, one of The Creator God's amazing creatures.

So it is only fitting that our Hymn today Thanks and Praises God for ALL His  creations, works, attributes --

and for the Free Gift of Salvation He offers and gives to all who will Believe, Trust Him for Salvation, and make Him their God, Savior, and King.

Sing along with the zillion singers and join them in Praising and thanking such an Awesome God!

The Firefly -- Improved Light emitting diode

Well, summer is over and the cold of the fall and winter season is upon us.

So there will be no more catching of Fireflies for awhile.

But, did you ever think about how amazing the light from a Firefly is?

Old earthers (evolutionists) would say that this unique ability of this small creature just happened by chance.

Hmmmm.  Doesn't seem very logical.

We found a very brief article that tells about this amazing ability and how it has inspired research which has led to the ever popular Light Emitting Diodes that we see in radios, flashlights, Christmas lights and more.

The picture here is a schematic of a Green Light Emitting Diode.

And to think, the 'lowly' Firefly did this lonnnnng before Scientists figured out how to do it also.

Hundreds attend Soldier's funeral

November 11 was Veteran's day and the DIT to which we are linking would have been great for that event.

But, alas, we didn't discover this touching brief video until after Veteran's Day is over.

And, rather than waiting till next year, we think this is something you will want to see now.

What is it?

Well, it seems that a WWII Veteran died recently and according to the information provided on the website with the video of his funeral:

"Harold Jellicoe Percival, a WWII bomber pilot, died last month at 99 years old. He had no children, no living family and no friends to come to his funeral.  But thanks to the power of the Internet, hundreds showed up to pay their respects to Percival at his funeral."

You will definitely want to see this.

Albuquerque Balloon Festival

Several years ago I was in Albuquerque during the time of this annual event.

Unfortunately, being in a meeting at the time, was unable to really see and appreciate the beauty and magnitude of this event --

although we did step outside briefly during a break in the meeting.

But, yay and hooray, a friend of DIT found this link and sent it to us.

So, now we can all see what this amazing event is like.

The Faith of the Elderly Caleb

Recently a friend of DIT gave us a hand out from his Sunday School Class.

It was about Caleb and his faith.

So you say --

Caleb?  Who is he? And why should I care?

Well, as you may recall, after the Israelites left Egypt and were told by God to enter their 'Promised Land', a search party of 12 men was sent by Moses to check out the situation.

Upon their return, only two (Joshua and Caleb) said "yes, with the Lord's help we can conquer the land."

The other ten essentially said "no way…"

Bottom line: the majority won out and as a result the Israelites had to wander in the wilderness for 40 more years before once again being told by God to enter the 'Promised Land'.

You can read about all of this in the Old Testament Books of Numbers and Joshua.

The purpose of today's DIT, however, is not a history lesson

but to discover some profound insights about Faith, in this case the Faith of Caleb.

Yes, the article to which we are linking today tells about Caleb's faith, but the principles presented are valid for all people.

So, without further ado, HERE'S THE LINK to The faith of the elderly Caleb

Today is Veteran's Day

Is your flag flying?

Today's DIT is a good way to celebrate this day.

What is it?

It is another 'flash mob' event.

The 'mob' is in Canada but the music they play is very appropriate for a Veteran's Day celebration.

This link was sent to us by a friend of DIT

And you are going to love it !

Are you washed in the Blood ?

Many of you saw the "My Hope America" program on TV this week.

It was on Billy Graham's 95th Birthday.

Once again, as he has done throughout his life, he pointed people to Jesus and Jesus' blood sacrifice for personal salvation.

The picture today is titled "What our Saviour Saw from the Cross" by James Tissot.

The Hymn today, "Are you washed in the Blood" is a fitting follow up to the message of that TV program.

So join in with the Mennonite Choir as they sing this hymn.

Setting up Camp after Babel

An interesting archaeological find could very likely be a campsite made shortly after the dispersion of Babel.

Of course the 'Old Earthers' (evolutionists) don't consider the Babel possibility.

Instead they think this campsite dates back to 800,000 years ago.

But those wearing 'Young Earth' glasses date it to about the time of the Babel dispersion based on its location in the post flood layers.

Hmmmm.

So, What is it? Where is it? And what is known about this campsite?

Well, this short article explains.

My Hope America

This was the title of the TV program yesterday evening in which Billy Graham, who is now 95, presented his thoughts about America.

You may have seen it.

It was not a 30 minute sermon --

Rather, in addition to Billy Graham's comments, many folks were featured who told what Christ had done in their lives and the Hope Christ gave and gives them.

You probably noticed that in the bottom right hand corner of the TV screen there was a website mentioned.

Well, the DIT today will take you to that site.

It has many additional features which build upon that program and you can even see a rerun of the program.

You will definitely want to check it out.

So, without further ado, HERE'S THE LINK to FindingMyHope.org

And to see the additional resources and the replay of the TV program, look for the link at the bottom of that page that says: "Looking for My Hope with Billy Graham resources? Click here."

Happy Birthday by Beethoven? Bach? Mozart? - Nicole Pesce

Countless friends and family members have had birthdays throughout this year (including one just this week) and in our usual forgetful way most have gone unrecognized.

So, for all those folks, here are some really clever Happy Birthday renditions.

We will begin with Nicole Pesce but if you have time, other videos will follow as is often the case with YouTube things.

If you keep watching, next will be Zubin Mehta and orchestra playing many variations.

After that will be Victor Borge doing his hilarous renditions.

And more follow after those.  So, if you have time, keep listening.

All are clever, innovative, and wonderful.

Now, without further ado -- Happy Birthday to everyone who had or will have a Birthday this year (and, of course, that includes you).

Walter Cronkite SK was a Ham

Two friends of DIT, who are Hams, recently upgraded their licenses to General.

So we thought that they, and you, would be interested in today's DIT about Walter Cronkite.

Walter Cronkite I know, you say.

But what is a SK?

And what is a ham?

Actually some of you may not know who Walter Cronkite is if you are young.

He was a very famous TV Newscaster for year and years and years.

I say 'was' because he is now a SK, which is 'ham talk' for "silent key" which means he has died and his (morse code and phone) key is now silent.

A 'ham', as you have figured out by now, is an Amateur Radio Operator.

So now you ask: What is an Amateur Radio Operator? What do they do?

This brief video produced by Walter Cronkite before his passing will explain.

I think you will find this verrrrry interesting and informative.

Optical Illusion

Recently a friend of DIT, who is a verrrrry smart student, sent us a text saying that she had read ALL of the DITs since the very beginning!

ALL !!

Now that is astounding. And huge Kudos to her !!!

Wow Wow Wow.

Further more she said that her brother, who also is very smart, loved brain teasers.

One of his favorites is:

"If it takes six men one hour to dig six holes,
how long does it take one man to dig half a hole?"

Ponder that and see what answer you get.

I will post the answer at the bottom of this DIT so you can check.

In the meantime for him and for his sister, and of course for you, too, we have an interesting DIT about optical illusions.

As noted in the write up accompanying the video to which we are linking today,

"Many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view."

This video is a real example of that saying by Obi-Wan Kenobi.

So rather than go on and on about this video and Optical Illusions, see for yourself.

HERE'S THE LINK to brain exploding optical illusion

And for the answer to the brain teaser noted above -- it is

"there is no such thing as a half a hole."

The Peleg Chronicles

Normally we do not recommend sites where a person has to pay to take advantage of its contents -- i.e. sites that sell stuff.

But, recently while reading the latest issue of Answers Magazine, we saw an article telling about the book series, "The Peleg Chronicles"

Seems that these are books mainly for Young folks but I would assume older folks and grandparents would enjoy them also.

Why?

Well, according to a review by Nigel Andreola of Christian Book Distributors

… they "read like fantasy novels, yet without magic spells, wands, and flying broomsticks. Instead, Scripture and prayer are revealed as the powerful tools needed to overcome the works of those who obey the evil one; to offer hope to our heroes in desperate times; and to give them boldness to share their faith along the way. God’s redemptive power is also plainly evident when even a sworn enemy can turn to the one true God ...A thrilling cliffhanger ends each story so be sure to read them in order.  …

And other reviews have similar glowing reports.

Bottom line -- you might want to consider giving these as Christmas gifts, for birthdays, or 'just because'.

To read more about these books and to find out how to get them,

Waffle House Closing

When I read this title on a Twitter Tweet entry my first thought was

What !!!  Are the Waffle Houses going out of business !!!

So, immediately I clicked on the link to see what was going on.

Well, gasp and yay, the Waffle House Chain is not going out of business.

But, sadly, one popular Waffle House is.

The Waffle House in Bloomington, Indiana is closing after 46 years.

And the article telling about this closure is very poignant.

So much so that (spoiler alert) you will want to get out a box of tissues as you read this article.
