Marsupials

Yesterday we read about Possums --

and did you notice that the Possum is a Marsupial animal?

Do you remember what is unusual about Marsupials?

Yes, when their young are born they crawl into a pouch on the mother's belly and live there for some time until they are large enough to emerge.

You are likely most familiar with Marsupials such as the Kangaroo and it was  probably 'new' to you to know that the Possum is also a Marsupial

as is the Wombat, Panda, and Koala.

Today's link takes us to a very short article with more details and some cute pictures of Marsupials.

Possums

Recently we saw a Possum in the back yard.  It was getting a drink of water from the frog pond and then slowly walked back into a stand of trees.

Cute.

A friend said Possums are 'good' because, among other things, they eat TICKS.  Yay and hooray for that.  It was nick to know there was a tick eater in the area.

Mentioning this insight to some other folks did not bring such a positive response

rather -- one related a story of a possum on their back deck.

And instead of just watching it, the grandsons of this friend went inside, came out with a gun, and tried to get rid of it.

What they did instead was shoot many holes in the deck !!!!

Sigh.

Anyway, all that to say, the topic of Possums had come up -- so off to the internet to learn more.

Our DIT link today is loaded with interesting information about Possums -- and, among other things, they eat more than ticks.

Bottom line, if you have a Possum in your neighborhood, leave it alone and be happy.

Forward ? or Backward ?

This has been the long standing question and debate for many folks.

Serious arguments have resulted from this verrrrrry important topic.

What debate? What Question? What topic?

Wellllllll …. we are referring to that controversial subject about which way to put the toilet paper roll on the roller.

At last it has been solved.

Solved?

What?  how?

Well, it seems that at the time the patent was taken out for toilet paper on rolls, a drawing was presented as part of the patent.

The drawing showed the direction that the roll should be put on the roller

And

Are you ready for this?  Yes?

Then HERE'S THE LINK to which way the toilet paper should go

Winged Wonders - Anhanguera

Is it a bird? is it a reptile? is it a plane?

Well, it is not a plane but

Fossils have been found of large flying creatures that look like reptiles but fly like birds.

In museums fossils of these flying monsters can be seen.

They are said to be primitive prehistoric beasts and are classified as the Anhanguera.

But when you check them out, you will find that they are not primitive at all.

Rather they are huge sophisticated flying wonders.

A very informative article will explain.

Sunday Hymn: Dayenu - Passover Song

The Hymn today is not a Hymn in the usual sense of the word.

Rather it is a Jewish song which is sung at some Passover Seder Suppers.

The version we will hear today is sung by Jews who are observing the annual Feast of Passover with a traditional Song.

Friday, April 22 / 2016 Passover began.  It is a several day event -- which is why we have selected this song for our Hymn today.

Though they are singing of and picturing the various elements of the Passover, many are likely unaware of the significance of these elements --

The elements are types / pictures of Yeshua (Jesus- the Lamb of God) and what His sacrificial death provides for all who accept his substitute sacrifice for sin.

For example:  The Lamb that was slain -- is a picture of Jesus, the Lamb of God who was slain to let those who accept His substitute death escape the punishment for sins by His death paying the death price for us.

The blood on the doorposts of the house pictures the blood on the Cross on which Christ died.

Many more types / pictures could be listed here but that is a whole study in itself.

For a brief summary of some of the types /pictures of the Passover meal HERE'S A LINK

But back to today's topic -- the Sunday Hymn --

This was a new song to me -- and may also be new to you.

So with that by way of introduction HERE'S THE LINK to Dayenu - Passover Song

Today begins Passover

What exactly IS Passover ?

Well, you are likely aware that Passover celebrates the departure (exodus) of the Jewish Nation from Egypt after about 400 years of living in Egypt, most of that time in slavery.

If you are rusty on those events, check out the Biblical account in Exodus 12.  HERE'S THE LINK

The Holiday / Feast activities and celebrations observed today are not only reminders of that past event but

they are also types / prophetic pictures pointing to future events.

For example -- The Jewish Seder Supper is observed at Passover --

And there are many things eaten during this Seder, each with significant symbolism.

Two of these 'special things' are the Afikomen and the Zeroa.

What are they? And why are these important to both Jews and Christians?

HERE'S THE LINK that explains about the Afikomen and the Zeroa

No Evolution is Proof of Evolution?

While we are on the subject of evolution -- thinking of yesterday's DIT --

here is another interesting connundrum.

Recently, scientists found fossilized bacteria that are said to 1.8 billion years old.

Wow.

How can one find such tiny objects, and how do they know they are that old, and ...

Well, we could go on and on with the questions --

But read this very brief article and see what you think.

Did Humans evolve from Ape-like ancestors?

Recently I was chatting with a person who has a Masters Degree from a well known University and who, though now retired, taught Jr. High and High School Science courses for years and years.

This person stated, as we discussed the genealogy of our ancestors, that, as a young child, when she heard that we had descended from apes -- she looked at the pictures of her grandparents and noticed that they did indeed have ape like features (foreheads, etc).

Therefore, this individual believed that man descended from apes, taught this to her students, and still believes this to be true.

But Is that true?

Did Humans really evolve from Ape-Like ancestors?

This brief article will provide interesting insights to ponder.

Loading your dishwasher

Wow. Dishwashers have come a long way in development.

The Dishwasher pictured here is a 1917 model that was advertised in Keith's Magazine.  It was hand powered.

Today we have much fancier machines powered by electricity

but

Hmmmm.

Seems there is a right way and a wrong way to load a dishwasher.

Who knew.

Is There a Purgatory?

Pictured here is a depiction of purgatory by Venezuelan painter Cristóbal Rojas (1890) representing the boundary between heaven (above) and hell (below)

The article to which we are linking today is a reply to a question asked of a writer for the Christian Index Newspaper.

Is there really a Purgatory such as the one pictured here?

It is a question about which many folks have wondered and worried.

As you read this brief article, pay particular attention to the next to last paragraph concerning Christ's comment on the cross to the thief.

Hmmmmm.

The Circus is a show that everyone loves.

P.T Barnum along with Bailey began the "Greatest Show on Earth"

P.T Barnum died April 7, 1891 but the Circus lived on for many more years.

Likely you or someone you know actually attended a P.T. Barnum and Bailey "The Greatest Show on Earth".

But what is its origin and is there any associated interesting history?

Yes, indeed.

The article to which we are linking today has insights which are very interesting and profound.

The Titanic Sank on this date in 1912

Actually the date was april 14 and 15, 1912 as the Ship struck the iceberg at 11:40 pm on the night of April 14 and sank in the early morning hours of April 15.

You have probably seen the movie (which takes a lot of liberties with the story including many fictionalized events) or you may have just head about the disaster.

Recently a book, the one pictured here, was written detailing more information about what actually happened.

A friend of DIT wrote a short book review which he handed out to his Sunday School class this past Sunday.

We thought you would also want to read the brief book review as it is very interesting and informative.

HERE'S THE LINK to The Titanic's Last Hero

Also, as you no doubt know, as the ship was in in its final hours and minutes, the small orchestra played the Hymn Nearer My God to Thee.

As you read this book review, you might want to also listen to the movie version of the playing of the Hymn.

Alabama's Underwater Forest

An underwater forest has been found --  located off the coast of Alabama.

Most News reports and videos depict the finding from an old earth perspective saying that this underwater forest is 50,000 or more years old.

For example, HERE'S THE LINK from the Weather Channel with the old earth perspective of the forest being 50,000 or more years old.

And HERE'S THE LINK to a video showing even better underwater scenes and positing that the forest is 12,000 years old.

Which in turn brings up the topic of what to wear.

Sunday Hymn: It is Well with my Soul

Yes, This is a very well known hymn and it is loved by all --

but the story behind the ones who are performing it today is poignant.

Joey Feek, who is singing this hymn, is now in Heaven with her Lord.

She passed away on March 4, 2016 after a bout with cancer.

Her husband (playing the guitar and singing with her) is now caring for their 2 year old daughter on their farm near Nashville, TN.

So with that by way of background, worship with them as you listen.

The Hummingbird: God's Tiny Miracle

On Monday, March 14 we observed "Learn about Butterflies" Day.

And what an amazing creature the Butterfly is.

But, guess what?

Even though today is not "Learn about Hummingbirds" day, a friend of DIT found a wonderful article that tells about this most amazing bird.

Evolutionists believe and teach that the hummingbird, all birds, the butterfly, and, indeed, everything including you and me just 'happened'.

As you read this article, see what you think.

Was this an accident of nature -- a result of evolution?

Multitudes in H e l l

The picture here is a Medieval illustration of H e l l  in the the Hortus deliciarum manuscript of Herrad of Landsberg (about 1180 AD).

Why are we posting it?

Well,

Recently a survey was done that showed that though a majority of people believe in Heaven -- they do not believe in H e l l.

Hmmm.

The very brief article to which we are linking today explains why this is a tragic mistake.

John 3:16 in sign language

This is an interesting and short tutorial.

A person we know actually knows some sign language and uses it in his practice so this is likely not new to him --

And another person we knew years ago was the sign language person for all Church events and activities.

But for those of you who do not 'do' sign language (including me) and are interested in learning some, you will find this verrrrrry helpful.

A really smart cat

While surfing facebook recently, I noticed that a friend had posted a really cute video about a cat.

What is so 'cute' about this cat?

Well, it seems that it rings the doorbell to get inside

and apparently it only does it in the daytime when the family is awake.

Thoughtful and Interesting.

The Easy way to grow tomatoes

It is that time of the year.

What time?

Why the time when folks begin to think about starting their gardens.

Yes, it is spring, so that means it is time to get the little plants and 'put them out' to grow.

Several friends of DIT are really 'into' growing tomatoes and they usually get small starter plants and soon have oodles of tomatoes.

But did you know you don't really have to start with a starter plant?

You can actually start with just a tomato, a pot, and some soil.

No kidding.
