Sunday Hymn: I know Whom I have believed

A couple of days ago (Friday to be exact) our DIT explained that Jesus IS the "I AM" (i.e. God)

Today's Hymn expands on that --

and reminds us that

it IS the Lord God Jesus Christ in whom we are to believe

in order to be forgiven of our sins and to spend eternity in Heaven with Him.

Sing along.

"I Am" in the Pentateuch

In The New Testament when Jesus Christ said He was the "I Am",  the Religious Leaders and crowds accused Him of Blasphemy.

Why did they react this way?

It was because they knew that in the Old Testament (specifically in the Pentateuch which comprises the first 5 books of the Old Testament) the term "I Am" applied only to the God of the Universe.

Jesus, therefore was equating Himself with God --

which is true!!  because

Jesus is God and is a part of the Triune (Trinity)

consisting of God (God the Father), God the Son (Jesus), and God the Holy Spirit.

All 3 are the "I Am"

The Crowds and Religious leaders knew what the Pentateuch said about God and thus thought Jesus was blaspheming when He said He was the "I AM"

So, you ask:  what does the Pentateuch say about the "I AM" --  God

Today's Link will tell us

HERE'S THE LINK TO  "I Am" in the Pentateuch

And if you want to pursue this further, Here are links to further explain when and why Jesus CORRECTLY claimed to be God.

Where does Jesus say "I Am God"

7 Times Jesus said "I Am God"

What did Jesus mean when He said "I Am"

Jesus specifically said "I Am God"

30 Amazing Electron Microscope images

The Microscope pictured here is the 'old timey' microscope that most people used in high school science classes --

but the Electron Microscope is a 'horse of a different color' in that it is used to image things to a much much higher resolution than you could ever obtain with an 'ordinary old timey' microscope.

The link today will show you some of the amazing things you can see with the much more powerful Electron Microscope.

Warning -- you might not care for the background music -- so be prepared to turn down the volume -- but other than that -- this is a really interesting click through.

Today is Sukkot - The Jewish Feast of Tabernacles

There is a series of Jewish Holidays that are observed annually.

Several are in the Spring, a few in the summer, and the rest in the Fall.

Today a very important Fall Feast / Holiday begins at Sundown.

Interestingly and significantly, though all the Major Jewish Holidays are important to the Jews they are also important to Christians.

Why?

Because the Jewish Holidays / Feasts have prophetic meanings and are Types / Pictures of important events in History.

The Feast / Holiday beginning today at sundown is Sukkot, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles.

This Feast actually spans a week.

So what happens?  And why does it take a week?

Well, one of the things that happens is that the Jews build booths / tabernacles and live in them during the week.

The picture today showing some of these booths is from Wikipedia and was taken by Yoninah.

The article to which we are linking will give more details about the booths and will answer questions about what happens and why.

Today is the First Day of Autumn

Wow, how time flies.  Fall is already here and it seems like the year has just begun.

So what is so important about Autumn? you ask.

Well, it means that today is the day that Summer officially ends and Fall begins.

The 'fancy' name for this event is "The Fall Autumnal Equinox."

So what is the Fall Autumnal Equinox and why is it important?

Well, for one thing, it is that special day at the end of summer and the beginning of fall when the sun at the equator rises in the due East and sets in the due West.

This means that both the day and the night are about 12 hours long.

The reason why they are not exactly 12 hours each is explained in the article below.

But, more significantly, to those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the days will now start getting shorter and shorter as each day passes and the nights will get longer and longer and longer ....

Until we come to the Winter Solstice when the shortest day of the year occurs.

But that is then and this is now.

And today is the Fall Autumnal Equinox.

No Click through today -- Just go out and enjoy the first day of Fall / Autumn

Well, It is the Jewish Day of Atonement and is the end of a period of 10 days of Awe (Repentance) that began  with Rosh Hashanah.

Yom Kippur is the Holiest day of the Jewish year !!!

So why should a person care about this period of 10 days culminating with Yom Kippur?

In fact it is essential for Christians, non-Christians, and Jews to understand what Yom Kippur means and symbolizes.
