Emily's Poem

Recently a 9 year old took her first Cruise and being a 'kid' it was a very special cruise.

What was it?

Well, yes, you guessed it -- it was a Disney Cruise on the ship pictured here, the Disney Magic.

Her mother took this picture while they were on Castaway Cay.

Upon returning to the 'real world' and school, as a class assignment she was told to write a poem on any subject -- so she decided to write about her adventures on the cruise.

I think she did a great job!!

What do you think?   HERE"S THE LINK

Calendars

It looks like Secularism has struck again.

One of the problems (but not all) that we seem to be having with blogspot posting has to do with their new calendar.

Seems that they are BEGINNING the week with Monday and ending with Sat and Sunday.

We saw this attempted about 20 years ago with Hallmark Calendars.

Apparently the 'world' was not yet ready to move the First day of the week (Sunday) to the LAST day of the Week.

But, now the world is probably 'ready' because that is what Google is doing.

What do you think?  Is this a good idea?  Your comments will be interesting to read should you want to post them.

Baby Christopher Update

For those of you who have been following the health adventures of Baby Christopher, you are surely rejoicing as you view this latest picture of him.

It was taken in April of this year.

As you recall, he had a heart transplant when he was about 2 months old and a kidney transplant about 6 months ago.

The kidney transplant allowed him to finally come off dialysis.

You will also recall the many ups and downs in his health which caused him to spend essentially the entire first year of his life in the hospital.

If you do not know his 'story', type "Baby Christopher" in the search box at the top of this page and you will find the previous articles, pictures, and etc. that have been on DIT from time to time.

He is home now but still making trips twice a week to the hospital for injections to treat a virus in his body which is trying to attack his kidney transplant, his only functioning kidney.

He still can not eat by mouth so must be fed by a tube into his stomach.

Thus, he is still not 'out of the woods' yet but, as you can see, he is a 'happy camper' and is doing well.

I just thought you would like to know about his progress since we have been posting DITs about him from time to time.

His family thanks you for your prayers, interest, and concern !!!

Having Problems !

You may have noticed that some DIT posts were missing last week and the post for today, April 25 also failed to post.

It was going to be a very interesting thing about 25 ways to.... (well, wait, hopefully it will be posted tomorrow so do come back)....

Anyway, this is all very strange and odd as the DIT's had been prepared and were ready to 'go'

but for some reason they didn't post.

A friend of DIT was the first to let us know of this problem.

Upon checking we are not exactly sure WHY this is happening.

But, one clue is that the Google Blogger has entirely (and out of the blue with no advanced warning) changed its entire format.

That is probably the reason.

But we have been trying and trying and nothing seems to work.

So, if you see more missing posts, let us know.

In the meantime, we are trying to figure out what it is with this new Google Blogger program that is messing up the posting.

Things are never simple.

Also I keep wondering why Blogger, Facebook, and other such things continue to feel the need to change things when they are working ok.

Sigh.

Oreo Cookies are 100 years old this year !

Well, no, not the ones in the packages in the stores. They are, hopefully not 100 years old.  That would definitely be the 'forever cookie' ...

But, did you know that the Oreo Cookie was first produced in 1912.

Who knew?

Well, of course, Nabisco knew because they 'invented' them.

But, this was news to me and probably to most of you oreo cookie lovers.

And who doesn't love oreo cookies.

Anyway, to read more about the Oreo Cookie (probably more than you want to know so you can stop reading when you have learned enough), HERE'S THE LINK

E-Sword

What is E-Sword?, you ask.

Well, it is a fantastically helpful and useful Bible Study computer program.

As noted on the website:

"There are volumes of books available as study tools (and the Christian community is indebted to the various authors' perseverance and scholarship), but there is not enough time, money, or shelf space to properly take advantage of these resources. Computer software has changed the way we can study the Word of GOD. With a simple search or click of the mouse button, we now have access to these same volumes of scholarship within seconds!"

If you have a computer, and I assume you do since you are reading this, and if you want to read and study the Bible, then you NEED to put E-SWORD on it.

And, guess what, it is FREE !!!

To learn more about this wonderful ministry and to download the program to your computer, HERE'S THE LINK

What does it mean to Love God?

This is a question that probably everyone has asked at one time or another.

And it is a very key and important question.

So, what does it mean to Love God?

Well, a short but insightful article by Nancy Missler, the wife of Dr. Chuck Missler of the Koinonia House Ministry, has a very good explantation.

I think you will find it very interesting and informative.

Actually it could be put into the category of a "must read".

Check it out.

Is Worldview important when studying or doing Science?

We have mentioned "Worldview" previously on DIT but it is so important that the topic bears repeating from time to time.

And this is one of those times.

Why?

Well, for one thing, many people think that science does not take a worldview into consideration.

But, sadly, that is just not true.

Dr. Georgia Purdom, taught science on the College level for several years.

She, understandably, therefore, has insights which are worth considering when it comes to the influence that a worldview has in the study of Science.

And it does have an influence as you will see in this brief article.

Your Income Taxes are due today !!!

For many folks April 15 is dreaded because they haven't finished filling out their tax forms.

But this year everyone gets a brief reprieve in that this year your taxes do not have to be 'in' until Tuesday, April 16.!

I am not sure why the 16th but last year something similar happened and it was said to be due to the fact that Emancipation Day was being observed in the District of Columbia.

So I suspect that is the reason for the extra day this year also.

But, whether that is the reason or not, you had this extra time to get your taxes ready to file.

However,  on second thought, perhaps you are still busy.

So, instead of providing a link to click to today, you can go back to working on your taxes and we will continue this 'merriment' tomorrow.

Happy calculating!

Carpathia, the Ship that rescued the Titanic's Passengers

Yesterday we read about the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

Today, we look back 100 years again because it was on this day, 100 years ago, that the Ship Carpathia arrived at the site where the Titanic had sunk and rescued the passengers that had made it into the life rafts.

You probably know that a ship did hear the radio emergency call and came to the rescue of her surviving passengers.

But, not much is ever said about the rescue ship, the Carpathia.

Today we want to look at some of the pictures of the ship and learn a tad more about how the rescue occurred.

Harold Bride was one of the two 'radio men' on the Titanic.

Harold Cottam, the only 'radio man' on the Carpathia was also among the heros.

To see the pictures, you have to jump through a hoop but it is an easy hoop.

This is what you do.

Go to the link that I will give you in the HERE'S THE LINK

and when you get there, scroll down the page until you find

Click on the picture of the Titanic

and a page with some reallllly interesting 'old timey' pictures will open.

But do not waste your time trying to click on the You Tube video thing. The link seems to be broken and you don't get the video.  Sigh.

So with that said, to see some interesting photos, HERE'S THE LINK

"Radio's Role in the Titanic Disaster"

100 years ago today the Titanic Disaster occurred.

Actually this disaster involved two Days, April 14 and 15, 1912, as it struck the Iceberg shortly before Midnight on the 14th and sank a few hours later on the 15th.

Of the 2223 passengers on board, only 712 survived.

Doubtless you have heard the story of this tragic disaster and you may have seen the not totally accurate blockbuster movie.

But, you may not have heard about the role that Radio played in saving the 712 lives.

A recent article in QST (the ARRL monthly magazine devoted to Ham Radio) told of

"Radio's Role in the Titanic Disaster."

The article was written by Commander Richard Paton and can be found in the QST magazine (but unfortunately is not online).

Wanting you to be aware of the contents of the article, I found it in PDF form on the website of the "Steamship Historical Society of America".

I think you will find it most interesting.

To find the article you will have to jump through "several hoops" but it will be well worth your time.

So, this is what you do.

Go to the website of the "Steamship Historical Society of America" . (I will provide the link as soon as I finish telling you about this.)

Scroll down to the article.

It will be titled "Radio's Role in the Titanic Disaster"

When you click on that link, the PDF file will come up, open it and read.

You will learn things you likely never heard or knew before about the important role that the fledgling Radio Service played.

There are other articles on that page which will be of interest also, but be sure to read the one titled

"Radio's Role in the Titanic Disaster"

Ok, with that by way of introduction, it's time to find the article, so HERE'S THE LINK

Amazing movies of the Minuscule World

The Nikon camera company had a contest in which folks were to make movies / videos of microscopic animals, plants, and things.

And, WOW, the photos and videos of the winners, posted on the internet, are amazing.

These once again show the intricate details of God's creations.

Of course, Nikon was not thinking about how these creations were created.  They just wanted to see what their cameras could capture.

And they certainly captured some amazing things.

But, how anyone can think that these things evolved by chance is, frankly, beyond me.

Check these out and see what you think.  Evolution or Creation?

Probably the Funniest Cat Video you'll ever see

Yes, that is the tittle of this 3 minute 13 second video.

We at DIT are not 'cat fans' -- we are more 'into' dogs.

But when a friend, who is also a 'dog person' sent us this link, we figured it had to be good.

And, yes, it is.

So, whether you are a 'cat lover' or not, you WILL get a kick out of this video.

The Jesus Film -- Taxi Driver Story

You have probably heard of the Jesus Film MInistry.

If not, briefly explaining -- and quoting from the Jesus Film website:

"Based on the Gospel of Luke, the "JESUS" film has now been translated into more than 1,120 languages, with new languages being added every month. This allows God’s Word to speak to people in more than 200 countries in languages they know and understand. By God’s grace, it is yielding a spiritual harvest of unprecedented results."

Recently we received an email with a link to a very interesting
3 minute 12 second video telling of some of the 'fruit' of the Jesus Film.

Specifically, It tells of a "Taxi Cab Driver's story of "Jesus".

I think you will find this very interesting, uplifting, and encouraging.

How often do you need to change the oil in your car?

Hmmm.

Now this is a reallllly interesting article.

Doubtless you have heard that 3,000 miles is the ideal time for changing the oil.

But, is this true?

Well, this article that was recently on the yahoo website has some insights about this that are worth pondering.

And, if what they say is true, and it probably is, you are going to be able to save a lot of money.

Can the Bible be trusted?

Many folks wonder about this.

In fact, many have been told by their teachers, friends, and sometimes even the clergy that 'no, it can not be trusted because it is full of errors'.

So they, understandably, begin to loose confidence in the Scriptures and ultimately drift away from its moorings.

Folks have often told us that the Bible is full of 'errors', though when you ask them to name some, they invariably give you a blank look and can't name even one.

Obviously they were just parroting what they had been told (that it was full of errors) without investigating for themselves and without questioning the 'teller' what the errors are.

So, the question we want to confront today is --

is there anything that might suggest that the Bible is true, accurate, and not 'full of errors'?

The article to which we will link you has information about the veracity of the Bible which I think you will find most interesting.

It was written by Chris Pinto and was posted recently on the WorldView Weekend website.

Today is Resurrection Sunday

Almost 2000 years ago, The Lord God Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the required death penalty for my (and everyone’s) sins.

Three days and nights passed while he was in the grave.

But then, HE AROSE from the dead !!!

He was Resurrected to new life!!!

And because He arose, we, too, can live with Him forever
IF
we confess and turn from our sins
and
accept the free gift of His substitute death as payment for our sins.

Jesus explained this amazing transaction to Nicodemus in these words:

John 3:14-18...
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness,
even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned:
but he that believeth not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. ...

What is my response to this?

Well, Robert Shaw, the Chamber Singers, and the Atlanta Symphony orchestra express my response in this 3 minutes 28 seconds video.   HERE’S THE LINK.

The Great Locomotive Chase

Today is an important day for the Ham (Amateur Radio) Club in Ringgold, Ga.

Why?

Because they are commemorating a very special event.

The event didn't really happen on the 7th of April in 1862.

It really occurred on the 12th of 1862, but, since today, the 7th, is a Saturday, the Ham club is no doubt taking this opportunity to do a 'special event' when more people are off for the weekend and looking for 'something to do'.

For those of of you who are Hams or know someone who is, you will likely want to participate.

The Frequencies they will be using are 14.265 and 7.265 if you would like to listen to or participate in the chatter. Certificates will be awarded to those making HF contacts on those frequencies.

But IF you are not a ham and have a shortwave radio, you can also tune in and listen.

So, what is this event?

Well, as described in Wikipedia:

"The Great Locomotive Chase or Andrews' Raid was a military raid that occurred April 12, 1862, in northern Georgia during the American Civil War. Volunteers from the Union Army, led by civilian scout James J. Andrews, commandeered a train and took it northwards toward Chattanooga, Tennessee, doing as much damage as possible to the vital Western and Atlantic Railroad (W&A) from Atlanta to Chattanooga as they went, pursued by other locomotives."

There is a lot more to this very interesting historical event..  To read the additional details, HERE'S THE LINK

Was Jesus Crucified on Friday?

Doubtless you have been told that Jesus was crucified on Friday.

Hence, you are celebrating today as "Good Friday".

But, is that correct?

Was Jesus REALLY crucified on Friday?

Or was it on another day?

The article to which we are linking today has some very interesting insights which will likely make you think again about this.

World's Longest Flights

You have probably been on some really long road trips in a car or bus and perhaps have even been on a long airplane ride.

And you were probably not happy with the length of the trip and the confined space that you had in the car or on the plane.

But, you know, as bad as your longest trip was, unless you are a big time world traveller (and many of my friends are), you probably have not had to endure the longest airplane flights.

There are some airplane flights that are reallllllly long.

In fact, a recent article on the yahoo finance site tells of some that are almost beyond belief long.

How long? you ask.

Well, to answer that question, HERE'S THE LINK

March Madness is coming to an end

Yes, I know it is April.

But, for the fans of College Basketball, it is, in their hearts and minds, still March.

Why?

Because, the "March Madness" of Basketball continues but is rapidly drawing to a close.

The time has FINALLY come for the Championship games and the winners will take the coveted honors of being the BEST College Basketball teams in the US.

For the Men, the FINALS will be played tonight, Monday, April 2, on CBS.  Kentucky and Kansas will vie for the Championship.

For the Women, the FINALS will be played Tuesday Night, April 3, on ESPN.  Baylor and Notre Dame will vie for the Championship.

By the way, and as an aside, a good friend of DIT has for years told a joke about sports which seems to have at last come true.

What is it?

Well, it seems that
Atheists don't really care who wins the Baylor vs Notre Dame game.

Har de har har.

However, and alas, our DIT friend told this joke to a real atheist a couple of weeks ago and the guy didn't laugh.

Hmmmm.

But I thought it was reallllly funny.   Oh Well.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand -- which is

This is a heads up to remind you to get your popcorn and your 'clicker' (remote control) and join the Basketball fans who will be watching these Championship games.

Both of these games should be realllllly exciting!

Does God Exist?

This is a very appropriate subject for today's DIT because today, April First, is the Atheist's  Holiday.

Atheists often complain that they have no  "Special Day" as do Christians, Jews,  Parents, Grandparents, Secretaries, Presidents, etc. etc. etc.

So, April 1 has been designated by some folks as the day for Atheists to do their 'celebrating'.

That is why the picture today is of the "Atheist's Bible", for after all, the Bible is about beliefs and the Atheists definitely have their beliefs.

And speaking of Atheists and Agnostics and others who do not believe that there is a God, a friend just sent the most interesting email.

What is it?

Well, it seems that there is a really good answer to the question, "Does God Exist ",
for the skeptics who say "He dos not exist because …."
