Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

Yesterday was Memorial Day -- a time when the graves of the Military are remembered by the placing of flags and decorations.

But days pass and soon the flags are removed until next year

and the flowers wilt

and life goes on by those who observed Memorial Day.

But not everyone forgets the fallen who gave their lives so that we might be free and able to continue living our lives.

As you know, in Washington DC, there is a very famous tomb.

It is the Tomb of the Unknown soldier and it is guarded 24 / 7 rain or shine, good weather or severe.

Who is the Unknown Soldier in that tomb?

Well, actually, there are more than one.

The first was an unknown Soldier from the First World War.

But others have been placed there from other wars since that time.

For more information about this tomb,

Today is Memorial day, is your flag flying?

“Old Folks” understand the meaning and the why of Memorial Day but, alas, I fear that most “young folks” today think it is just another 3 day holiday and a time for fun.

But is it? Should we look at it as just another occasion for cookouts, the opening of swimming pools, the beginning of summer vacations, and goofing off?

I remember my Parents and Grandparents putting flowers and flags on graves (of military and family) and referring to this special day as “Decoration Day”, its original name.

The name was changed to Memorial Day after World War I, but  many old folks still referred to it as Decoration Day.

So, what exactly IS Decoration Day / Memorial Day and why do we observe it?

The opening paragraph in Wikipedia says:

“Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service. First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the civil war), it was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.”
And now with that by way of explanation, today's link is to a moving 2 minute video tribute about this holiday.

The Flood Catastrophe that Changed the world

The Grand Canyon in the USA is one of the Current Wonders of the World.

But how and why did it form?

Evolutionists say that the Colorado River formed it by slowly eating away at the land for millions and millions of years.

Is this true?

Young Earth Creationists have another theory.

Can it tell us anything about Noah's Flood?

You will find today's link very helpful and informative in considering this matter.

Megafloods in the English channel

And speaking of the ice age (as we did in yesterday's DIT) --

there is even more evidence for a recent ice age --

because some very interesting residual underwater findings have been found that suggest a recent flood and a recent ice age.

What?  Explain.

Well, it seems that those famous Cliffs of Dover and the underwater findings adjacent to them in the English Channel reveal some very interesting evidence --

It seems that are underwater findings in the English Channel that resulted in erosive changes which are very similar to findings consistent with the mechanism of formation and appearance of the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and and many other similar deep erosions in multiple places on the earth.

What? Explain.

OK, check out this explanatory link.

The Global flood explains the Ice Age

Many, if not most, secular scientists (those who believe the theory of evolution) tell us that there were 5 or more ice ages that occurred over millions of years --

Whereas most of the Scientists who adhere to the young earth concept of creation believe that there was only one ice age -- which occurred shortly after Noah's flood.

So who is correct?  And which theory has the most confirmatory evidence?

Today's link includes a short explanatory video.

Results of Religious Compromise

Yesterday we discovered that it is easily possible for the current population of the earth to correlate with the progeny of the 8 Survivors of the Flood.

And we also discovered that the evolutionary time span of people on the earth for hundreds of thousands or millions of years does NOT correlate with the current population of the earth.

This is one example of many of why the evolutionary ideas do not work.

But many Christians, for various reasons, have chosen to believe and teach the evolutionary theory instead of believing the Biblical explanation of Instantaneous Creation in 6 Days.

Does believing in evolution instead of Creation by God make any difference in the lives of Christians?  Is this compromise a good idea?

Today's link will explain.

HERE IS THE LINK to why belief in instantaneous Creation is important

Population Question

Recently a group of DIT'ers went to see the Life Size Noah's Ark Replica in Northern Kentucky.

And wow is it awesome --

if you haven't yet seen it

you need to put this on your Summer Vacation list.

And when you go -- or even if you can't yet go --

A question which will likely cross your mind is --

Since the Flood occurred about 4000 years ago

and there were only 8 survivors on Noah's Ark

how can we have 7 + billion people on earth today from 8 only survivors on noah's ark?

Today's link will answer that question.

Tomb of the Eagles

For the past few days we have been reading about the Archaeological site, Gobekli Tepe.

You might recall seeing a picture of a small stone with a precision drilled hole.

This was obviously not an ordinary hole.  It was a hole that surely required some type of highly advance drilling tool.

The appearance of the precision hole indicates that it was not made by someone rotating a stick (like Boy Scouts use to start fires in an emergency) for months and years but by someone using a very sharp cutting tool, perhaps unlike what we have even today.

Why do I bring this up? you ask.

Well, several years ago a group of us went to The Tomb of the Eagles (in the Orkneys) and saw a stone (the albertite 'button’) with a precision drilled hole that was very reminiscent of the stone in yesterday’s DIT (Daily Interesting Thing).

Now the question is, “Why does a stone in Armenia (Turkey today) and a stone in the Orkneys of Scotland look like the same type of tool had drilled them both?” Even the rock in which the hole was drilled seems to be the same or very similar. And what was the purpose of the drilling of the hole?

And....

Well, we could go on and on with the questions and the discoveries.

But, the point (pun intended) remains, it seems that folks many thousands of years ago (The Tomb of the Eagles is thought to be about 5000 years old) were much more highly advanced than we give them credit for.

Yes, many likely were ‘hunter-gatherers’ but, instead of being hunter gatherers of the evolutionary process of man’s ‘development’  --

Consider the possibility that they were ‘hunter-gatherers’ because, having been dispersed around the world at the time of the Tower of Babel event, they had much technical knowledge but no longer had access to the machinery, and most tools (except small tools), which were available in their pre-Babel Dispersion life.

Hmmmm. What a concept. Could it be that the Biblical accounts re. the age of the earth and all the events that happened (pre-flood world, Noah’s flood, Tower of Babel dispersion, etc) are all true!

Well, YES.

So, with that in mind and your ‘young earth’ glasses in place, scroll around on the Visitor information page --

it lets you see lots of things as if you were actually in the little museum itself

…. continue scrolling till you find a glass case with stones and other artifacts and look at the stone with the precision drilled hole as well as the other artifacts at the Tomb of the Eagles.

Gobekli Tepe and Religion

How are Gobekli Tepe and religion related, you ask.

Well, it seems that those wearing the 'old earth evolutionary glasses' tell us that that 'religion'  developed and God was invented because the hunter-gatherers were bickering and needed some guidelines.

But, sites such as Gobekli Tepe are putting that supposed origin of religion and God to rest.

How?

Well, it seems that Gobekli Tepe and other ancient sites are just too advanced in their architecture and development to have been made by hunter-gatherers who supposedly had just recently left their ape state of evolution.

Hmmm. Seems some new thinking needs to take place in the minds of the 'old eaarthers' while those wearing the "Bible is true" glasses will just smile and say, "not surprised at all."

Indeed, even the location of Gobekli Tepe on the map suggests Biblical confirmation of one the most likely early inhabited areas after the landing of Noah's ark.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

Anyway, for more details and insights about this, HERE'S THE LINK

More about Gobekli Tepe

Pictured here is the Archaeological dig of Gobekli Tepe.  This picture was taken by Teomancimit and uploaded to Wikipedia.

Well, as we discovered yesterday, it is a verrrrry old Archaeological site in southeastern Turkey.

How old is it?  And what was its' purpose?

The article to which we are linking will give you the interesting details.

Gobekli Tepe

During a dinner discussion with a reader of DIT (Daily Interesting Things), I learned of a very interesting archaeological site in Turkey.

Seems this site, Gobekli Tepe, currently only partially excavated, has many standing stones and circle structures similar to the well known Stonehenge and other similar structures around the world.

But, the structures in Gobekli Tepe in Turkey (the area known as Armenia in the Bible in 2 Kings 19:37 and Isaiah 37:38) are thought to be older than Stonehenge.

Older?

Yes. The structures in Gobekli Tepe are thought to be about 12,000 years old whereas Stonehenge is thought to be about 6,000 years old.  (Remember, these are dates selected by those wearing ‘old earth glasses’)

Everyone agrees, this is a fascinating and important discovery.

But, the interpretation depends on which glasses you are wearing (‘old earth / evolutionary glasses’ or the ‘young earth / Creation by God glasses’)

If you wear the evolutionary glasses, the date of 12,000 or so years attributes the water erosion, location, etc. to the ‘last’ (of several) ice age with local heavy rains, etc.  The people who lived in this ‘era’ are called hunter-gatherers and folks today are understandably amazed that hunter-gatherers could build such things with no tools or with very rudimentary tools such as stones, sticks, ropes, whatever.

But, with ‘young earth’ glasses, the explanation re the water erosion, etc. is viewed within the context that the pre flood civilization was a very highly advanced civilization

and after Noah’s flood people began building with the highly advanced pre-flood knowledge --

but then the advanced knowledge deteriorated rapidly as a result of the Babel Dispersion event, the ice age (the only ice age) that occurred after Noah’s flood,  and etc.

Wearing old earth glasses, discoveries such as Gobekli Tepe are really very difficult (more likely impossible) to explain.

But, wearing young earth glasses, such discoveries make a lot of sense.  For example, the location of Gobekli Tepe is practically at the foot of the Mountains of Aarat.   Remember what happened there? Yes. Noah’s ark landed.

And civilization began anew from there.

So, could Gobekli Tepe be one of the earliest post Flood structures?

And could Stonehenge and other similar sites around the world be later post flood and post Babel structures? Hmmm.

Similarly, could the water erosion seen on many of these old structures, including the Sphinx and Pyramids of Egypt, be due to the heavy rains post Flood -- the heavy rains which ultimately produced the one and only ice age?

Just a thought.

So, put on your ‘young earth’ glasses and see what else you can interpret as you view the article and pictures of Gobekli Tepe.  HERE’S THE LINK

And if you would like to read still more, The Smithsonian.com site reported on this also.  HERE’S THE LINK
