Technology today seems to be doing away with paper maps.

Everyone now just looks on their smart phones and away they go following the GPS provided map information.

In fact, a recent visitor here used maps on the iPhone exclusively to come and go from our site. There was no paper map in the car and there were no notes scribbled on paper.  Just the iPhone and an online map program.

Wow.

But, as wonderful as those smart phones are, they are sorely lacking when it comes to Biblical Maps.

They are real maps with a lot of helpful information for Bible Students and Teachers.

Surfing USA

When you hear the words, "Surfing USA", you probably think of the song and imagine yourself or someone surfing in Hawaii, California, or some similar exotic place.

But, guess what, there is even more to this than meets the eye.

What?

Well, it seems that there are now Dogs who surf !!!

No Kidding.

Alas, the surfing dogs do not include the cute prissy little dog pictured in our picture of the day, though she could if she wanted to but being an older dog she says she would rather loll and watch. Sigh.

Panama Canal

Did you know that there are live cameras that let you watch ships go through the locks of the Panama Canal 24 /7 ?

Yes, indeed there are.

Many folks watch their family members and / or friends on Cruise Ships as they pass through the locks.

It is a lot of fun and very interesting.

If you have 'done' the Panama Canal transit, you are likely aware of these cameras and have waved to your internet watching friends.

Yes, there are consequences

Those with old earth glasses and an evolutionary worldview usually also deny the literal existence of Adam and Eve.

Vampire and werewolf movies?

Movies, books, and TV shows about vampires, werewolves, ghosts, witches, and other similar entities and occult 'entertainment' are all the rage these days.

And many many folks are avidly and eagerly 'into' such viewing and reading..

But is this OK?

Are these just harmless forms of entertainment?

Stem Cells

There are stem cells and then there are stem cells.

And they are very different in their origin.

Usually when you hear the topic of stem cells being discussed, the presenters are pushing / touting embryonic stem cells from aborted babies and would lead you to believe that this is the only source available.

But there are also adult stem cells which are "a horse of a different color".

In fact the real 'action' so far in stem cell research has not been in the embryonic stem cells, as folks would want you to believe, but in the adult stem cell research.

This is an area about which you really need to be informed and aware.

A brief but succinct article will bring you up to speed on this important topic, will explain the differences in the two sources of stem cells, and will explain why the source is important.

The 6 days of Creation and Evolutionary Theory

 Are they compatible?

Perhaps you, as I, have discussed this many times with many folks.

Several of my very intellectual Christian friends believe that Evolution is how God created.

Why?

Because,through their many years of study which ended in various advanced degrees, they were repeatedly told that evolution is the answer.

And their Churches and Church Leaders were either totally silent on the topic or, if  mentioned at all, touted and accommodated the old earth long ages views proposed by scientists today.

So they believe that the scientists in their white coats know more than the Bible.

Other Christian intellectual friends, with the same education, however, still believe firmly in the 6 days of Creation as detailed in the Bible.

Who is correct?

And does it matter?

Well, it seems that Philip (all hams go only by their first names) took his Technician test on Dec 1, the day that the article about Hams was posted, and PASSED.

Ham radio is the new 'in' thing!

 What is Ham Radio?

It is the hot new thing in communications.  (IPhone watch out).

Hams use all sizes of radios ranging from small handhelds like the one pictured here to really big rigs such as you will see in the article today.

Actually Ham (Amateur) Radio is not new; it has been around for over 100 years.

But, recently Ham Radio has become "the newest trend in American communication" according to a recent report on the Fox News website.

According to that article, as of Oct 2011, there are now more than 700,000 hams (Radio Amateurs) in the US.

Perhaps you are a ham, know of a ham, or had a ham in your family years ago.

You might even have a secret desire to be a ham yourself. If so, it looks like now is the time to jump in.

Perfect Crash Landing

The video you will view today is amazing.

I am not sure when this took place but the fact that we have recently celebrated Thanksgiving makes it an appropriate video regardless of when it happened.

Why?

Because those involved, their family members, and friends are surely still remembering this event and are very thankful.

So what is this all about?

Well, it seems that CNN recorded the event of a small plane in trouble which had to make a scary emergency landing at the Fulton Airport in the Atlanta area.

Whale fossils found in Chile

These whales were found in sedimentary (big hint) rock in the desert.

They are supposedly 17 million years old.

According to the article, the researchers don't understand why these whales were found in such large numbers or why they are in a group.

There was also a dolphin found -- not your ordinary dolphin --
it had tusks !
Hmmmm

The writer of this article and the researchers seem to be wearing 'old earth' (evolutionary worldview) glasses.

Put on 'young earth' world view glasses, read this article and see if you can suggest how and why these whales were found in such large numbers and in a group.

Today is Sunday and many of you are off to Church today.

Dogs wait for prayer before eating

Hmmm.  This is rather hard to believe.

But, believe it or not, there is a neato video of this on the net.

It was sent to us by a friend who probably didn't think it would make it to being a DIT.

But, having observed Thanksgiving this week and having innumerable things for which to be Thankful, this video is appropriate for people as well as dogs.

Yesterday was Thanksgiving Day. 

And during that day, this picture was taken of Baby Christopher, who, as you recall, has been home for about 2 weeks after spending most of his almost 2 years in hospitals.

Truly it was a Thanksgiving Day worthy of its name.  WOW.

Hmmm. An unusual idea.

But, when you think about it, it might be a good idea.

Boys Love Football

We have been following the medical adventures of Baby Christopher.

He is now almost 2 years old and during that short span of time has had a heart transplant, been in hospitals and on dialysis most of his life, and received a renal transplant from his dad a few weeks ago.

Now, he has finally returned home and is beginning to be a real boy.

As you can see from this picture, he is a typical real boy because "Boys Love Football".

His dad, as you recall, is a sports writer and amongst other things covers College Football. 

So, I guess you could say that Christopher has many reasons to love sports and football.

But that is a topic for another time.

The reason for today's DIT entry is that his mom has posted a very poignant article on his Caring Bridge Website.

In it she discusses some of what God has taught her through this experience, which some could correctly call an 'ordeal'.

It is one thing to hear a sermon on the topics she discusses.  But it is totally different and more profound to hear a first hand report of what God has personally taught someone as they endured trials and tests.

The Gettysburg Address

On this day, November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln delivered the now famous Gettysburg Address.

That was almost 150 years ago, well technically 148 years ago.

It is still an awesome speech and worth remembering:

"Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. 

We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract.

Best Day of Fishing Ever

This is a true story !!!

Unbelievable !

For those of you who think this is a fishing story and don't think you will click on the link, well, think again.

It is kinda a fishing story but for you hunters out there, you are going to be amazed.

Why do I say that?

Well, seems that fishermen in Alaska saw 4 young bucks swimming in the icy waters toward their boat….

Noah's Flood - was it local or world wide?

This is a very important question --was it a local flood or worldwide in scope?

You have probably heard 'arguments' on both sides.

Interestingly, this question was not even up for 'debate' until about 200 or so years ago.

Hmmm.  Isn't that about the time that the theory of evolution began?

Hmmm. Yes. 

So there seems to be a 'world view' situation going on here.

World view?

Yes. 

Those with the old earth glasses (evolutionary thinking) explain the various rock layers around the world as being due to slow deposition of mud, etc. over millions of years and they also say that Noah's flood never happened or if it did it was just a local flood and not worldwide as the Bible states.

On the other side of the 'debate', those with young earth glasses attribute those same rock layers to deposits laid down during Noah's Flood.

So which view is correct and what difference does it make?

Well, it looks like this is turning out to be music week on DIT.

Funny how things go like that.

Yesterday we had that rendition of the Messiah by a group of students in Alaska.

True, It is not yet Christmas and it is still a week or so till Thanksgiving.

But, in many places we have already had snow.

This is neat.

We at DIT know of a person who has an interesting blog site.

From time to time she posts some realllly interesting and helpful things.

It's Saturday and that means Football

Everyone has their favorite college football team and watches the 'big' game on Saturday during football season.

Last week a BIG game, that probably most of America watched, was seriously impacted by the Kicking Game.

I am speaking, of course, of the LSU vs Alabama game which, as the Alabama fans are likely still lamenting, was largely lost due to the missing of several field goals!

Well, while that game was being watched by millions of folks, there was another game being played in which the kicking game was also very important and interesting, not because of possible National Championship implications, but because of a very unusual 'storybook' situation.

11/11/11.  Yes, this is what most folks are considering as they think about today.

In fact, many folks are purposely getting married, having babies, starting projects, and doing myriads of other things on this 'unusual' date, 11/11/11.

But, did you know that, in addition to all the 'hype' surrounding this rare set of numbers, they comprise what is known as a palindrome.

Palindrome????

What is a palindrome?

Well, according to the dictionary it is a "noun. A word, phrase, or sequence that reads the same backward as forward."

"madam, nurses run" and, of course, the date of today 11/11/11 are all palindromes.

But, as interesting and 'educational' as that might be, there is something more important about today.

What is it?

Well, today is Veteran's Day! 

Veteran's day, also known as Armistice Day, is a very special and important day and your flag should be flying.

Baby Christopher Update

6 weeks and 1 day ago Baby Christopher, who is now almost 2 years old, received his Kidney transplant (from his dad).

He, Christopher, has been in the hospital post renal transplant allllll this time.

This, of course, followed his heart transplant from an unknown donor almost 2 years ago.  And he was in the hospital for over a year after that surgery because of the myriads of complications.

The picture today was taken in the hospital a few days ago.  You can definitely see the progress he has made in the past 6 weeks.

Why are we mentioning this now? you ask.

Because, at last, there is  GREAT GREAT NEWS!!

Christopher has been discharged from the hospital and as this DIT is being posted is on his way home !

The posting on his Caring Bridge website at 4:46 PM PST on Nov 9, 2011 tells of this great event.

Specifically,
it said that his mother …

 and Christopher left Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland moments ago 

to make the 110-mile trip home …  

Six weeks and one day after the transplant.

We are so thankful to our wonderful, merciful God for His continuing answer to our prayers.
(And we're thankful for all of you who have prayed for Christopher.)

Knew you would want to know so you could rejoice with him, his family, and his friends.

And, in closing, one more picture.

Because Christopher has now arrived at home and this is how he looks in his room with his family and his toys.   A real Praise the Lord !!!!

Going to school as a robot

There was an interesting news report on the radio this evening.

And. assuming that you would be interested also, I googled' to see if there was anything about this on the internet.

And, of course, there is.

So what is it?

Well, the radio report I heard said there is a high school student in Colorado who can't go to school because of an allergy.

But, she is still attending school daily anyway.

How?

Now that is where it gets really interesting.

She is attending as a robot as her avatar.

Stealth Dog

Stealth Dog???

But you are probably thinking "I thought it was cats who were the stealthy stalkers."

True.  My thoughts exactly also.

But, seemingly the tables have been turned --

An underground 'Earth Scraper'

Yes, you read that correctly.

Earth scraper -- not Sky Scraper.

But, it would be a sky scraper were it not an earth scraper.

Why?

Because this 'earth scraper' will go 300 meters (about 984 feet) into the ground and will essentially be an underground inverted pyramid.

What?  Where?  Do you have pictures?

 Today, as you know, Daylight Saving Time changed at 2 AM and you gained an hour.

You might have spent it sleeping.

Well, there are probably a lot of things to do including rolling back over in bed, pulling the covers over your head, and snoozing for another hour.

Heads Up: Daylight savings ends

 Yes, it is that time of the year again.

A few months ago we lost an hour and tonight, well, technically, in the wee hours of Sunday morning, specifically at 2 AM on Sunday, we get it back again.

You know -- the old "Fall Back -- Spring Forward" thing.

And, yayyyyy, tonight when you go to bed (assuming you are not a night owl or working and will not be going to bed) you will get an extra hour of sleep!

And only 12 years ago we reached the 6 Billion number.

Not only is time flying but so are the numbers it seems.

Anyway, as to when the 7 Billion number arrives, well, there is a debate about that.

Some say that Oct 31 was the day.

Others say that it will be sometime in the early spring of 2012.

But, whenever it is, there is an online calculator which is intended to let you see what your number is.

Steve Jobs Last words

As you know Steve Jobs died a few weeks ago at age 56.

Today several articles are on the net telling of his last words.

And last words are of great interest to lots of folks.

You will recall viewing a video and reading some articles by Tom Horn.

Well, he is the editor of this book and has gathered together several authors who have each contributed a chapter in this book, some of whom were the writers of the articles you have been reading in this series.

They include such folks as Thomas and Nita (his wife) Horn, Gary Stearman, Noah Hutchings, Chuck Missler, Sharon Gilbert, John McTernan, and several others.

The lead off Chapter by Tom Horn is worth the price of the book in itself.  It is the paper he was going to present at the American Academy of Religion.

We don't know if the paper was ever accepted and presented but while looking for it online to share with you and not finding it, decided to do the series instead.

So, as we end this series, if you would like to get this book and read that very detailed and in depth paper plus even more about H+, and its pros and cons by the other authors, then this book is for you.

I did not agree with everything that some of the authors said; but  when does one agree with everything in a book such as this?

With that caveat, it is an important, groundbreaking, and very informative book on the topic of H+

Did ancient Biotechnology create the Nephilim?

This is the subject of today's investigation in the Transhumanism series.

The article to which we are linking today was written in 2007 but it is still very current and contemporary to the topic at hand.

"Old earther's", aka Evolutionists, teach that man descended millions of years ago from an ape like creature and gradually became smarter and smarter as the millennia progressed until now he is soooooo smart that he can do the transhumanist things he is doing.

But is this correct?

Is this really how man came to be?

And is this the first time that man has been capable of doing the H+ (transhumanism) things?

There is another side to this story.  And it is totally different from the Evolutionary concept.

GM pigs could provide human organs by 2013

Today let's read another secular article in support of H+ (transhumanism).

We don't know whether or not the author knows this is transhumanism or if he cares or understands the implications of what he is reporting.

But, now that you have been reading this series, you likely understand the implications of this very brief article.

Usually, as is the case in this article, the key to acceptance of this new direction in science is touted as another wonderful and helpful advance in medical treatments.

But, usually the ethical implications are totally overlooked, again as is the case in this article.

Why are the ethical implications overlooked?

Well, as has been mentioned previously and as you have no doubt also ascertained, since the theory of evolution is now the guiding worldview of most of the scientists and writers today, they believe that there is no God and thus no need to worry about any ethical implications.

So they forge ahead attempting to do things that the God that they are refusing and rejecting has said to NOT DO.

In this case, they think that GM (Genetically modified) pigs will 'help' in medical treatments.

Perhaps so.

BUT is this right?  Should they do this? 

What does God, the real God, the God they reject and refuse to believe exists have to say about this?

Is this a good thing? 

Or are they asking for Trouble with a capital T?

Transhumanism explained by another Transhumanist !

Yesterday we read an article from the Transhumanist Magazine.

Today, let's look at an article from 'Technology Review', which is published by non other than MIT.

It is an article written by Juan Enriquez, a futurist, author, Chairman and CEO of Biotechonomy, and a transhumanist supporter.

He is giving direct information and insight into what Transhumanism is attempting to do and why.

He is telling us to "Get ready for a new Human Species".

Wow!

The Transhumanists really do want to "engineer life"!

Again, you might want to make notes and look for 'red flags'.

You will likely discover that the warnings in articles we posted previously, by those who are very wary of this research, are being confirmed as actual ideas, concepts, and technological feats of the Transhumanists.

For example, the article says:

"People think this technology will just change pharma or biotech, but it's much bigger than that. For example, it's already changing the chemical industry. Forty percent of Dupont's earnings today come from the life sciences. It's going to change everything; it will change countries, who's rich and who's poor. It's going to create new ethics."

As you can readily see, this is real, moving fast, and folks need to pay attention to what is going on in the field of Transhumanism.

Transhumanism in their own words

The picture today is of the H+ Logo of Transhumanism.  It is used extensively including on their Magazine.

And, in case you might be wondering if this series of articles about transhumanism might be over the top and this transhumanism stuff is made up, an article from a recent Transhumanism magazine should give you pause and insight into what the proponents are thinking and reporting.  

As you read the article, you might want to get out your paper and pencil, take notes, and jot down any 'red flags' that you see.

Based on some of the rebuttal links in the past few days, you will likely find several interesting 'insights', correlations, and confirmations of the likely problems with this new direction of science.

For example, the rebuttal articles have mentioned that this is not a new thing but has been around before.

Well, interestingly, the Transhumanists themselves are also aware of this as you will notice in the article.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

In the article is a link to 4 videos in a playlist.  To tell you the truth, I did NOT click through and do not want to click though, so all I can say is, if you do, then watch at your peril.

It is the information about the Golem and other ancient transhuman type creatures that I wanted to bring to your attention in this article, not the videos.

Transhumanism, Movies, and Singularity

What does Transhumanism have to do with the movies?

And what in the world is Singularity?

Great questions.

And, yes, believe it or not,  there are many many movies 'out there' that are not 'just' interesting works of fiction but are actually giving us a heads up and preparing us for what is coming down the pike.

You have likely seen many of the movies to which I am referring.  Or, if you haven't actually seen them you have heard about them.

And it is not just recent movies which have a 'hidden' story to tell, but there are many 'older' movies which have been pointing to where we are now and where we are still going.

What?

Well, the article today will reference several of the many movies, including the Matrix series, and will explain some of what they were 'teaching' while they were 'entertaining' us.

Transhumanism and man becoming god?

What subject?

Well, some folks think that one of the underlying goals of transhumanism is an attempt by man to become his own God.
