What is Sukkoth?
Well, Sukkoth, also known as the Feast of Tabernacles and the Feast of Booths, is one of the major fall feasts on the Jewish calendar.
It begins at sundown today and lasts for 7-9 days.
7 to 9 days? What?
Good question.
In the Torah, it is declared to last 7 days. But during the Diaspora it was observed for 9 days and now in Israel it is observed for 8 days.
So what happens during the Feast of Tabernacles / Booths?
Among other things, the Jewish people build booths (such as shown in the picture today which was taken by Yoninah and is on the Wikipedia website) and live in them during the holiday.
There are many articles on the web that go into a lot of detail about this important event.
