J Harlen Bretz

Who is J Harlen Bretz ? you ask.

Well, that was a question a group of us asked several years ago when we were on an Answers In Genesis Field Trip out west (in Washington, Oregon, and other places).

While on that trip, in eastern Washington State, in a region known as the Scablands, our instructor told us about J Harlen Bretz (pictured here)  and how his discoveries and conclusions were initially ignored and ostracized for years and years.

But, finally, many many years after the fact, Scientists began to realize that he was correct after all.

Correct?  About What?

Well, his observations and conclusions were instrumental in understanding how the Scablands were formed.

A friend of DIT reminded me of J Harlen Bretz when she recently sent us this link to a website that tells about him and his discoveries.

You will learn a lot by reading this -- just as those of us on the tour did by seeing these things in 'real life'.

The Millennials and the Church

As you know, names are being given to various age groups, the most recent of which is known as "The Millennials".

The Bema Judgment

The Bema is the Judgment seat of Christ.  

It is NOT the Great White Throne Judgment which is for the unsaved / non-believers  / those who have not accepted the free gift of salvation provided by the Lord God Jesus Christ 

The Bema IS the Judgment of Believers / Christians.  

If you are a Believer / Christian / have accepted Jesus' gift of salvation --you WILL be at this Judgment as is indicated in 2 Corinthians 5:10

 "¹⁰For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad."

A friend sent me an audio CD of this talk which is now available on You Tube as a video.

The Presenter is Pete Briscoe, the son of Stuart and Jill Briscoe.  It is based on the book by Pastor Tim Stevenson.

The letter accompanying the CD said that "it is powerful" and she is so right.

Both the Audio and Video versions are 1 hour 7 minutes in length.  You probably think that is a long time BUT take the time and watch this (or, better still, close your eyes and listen)

The Cambrian and the Trilobites

Were the Trilobites, which are found in the Cambrian layer of fossilized animals, really the first animals?  This has been 'taught' for years.

But Interestingly there have recently been found many fossilized life forms in Precambrian layers, especially in the Ediacaran layer. 

Some folks think these fossils in the Ediacaran layer are aliens. Others think they are evidence of evolution. Still others think they are other creations of God.

Bald Eagle Nesting Webcam

Today on DIT we are going to visit an awesome web cam of a Bald Eagle nesting with two eggs.

Seems that the Eagle parents have returned to a location they have visited previously and cameras were set up in anticipation of their return.

The Eagles are nesting at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Currently the mother Eagle is sitting in the nest with two still unhatched eggs.

You will want to put the link into your favorites and check back from time to time

Recently while surfing Facebook, I found this link that had been 'liked' by a friend of DIT who lives in Hawaii.

Handel - Messiah- For Unto us a Child is born

It is Sunday and time for some worship music.

Since we have recently observed Christmas, and the momentous earth changing event which occurred approximately 2000 years ago, 

today let's listen to "For unto us a Child is born" from Handel's Messiah.

Baby Christopher is not a baby any more. He is 6 years old !!!

Many of you go wayyyyy back as DIT readers.  If so, you remember the many DITs about Baby Christopher.

But some of you may be new to this website and are asking  "Who is Baby Christopher?"

Well, he was the little tyke born with a severe Congenital Heart Defect -- so severe, in fact, that when he was 2 months old he had to receive a Heart Transplant.

Then after being on Dialysis for 2 years, he had a Kidney transplant.

An unknown family provided the heart -- for which Christopher and all of his family and friends are most grateful.

The kidney was provided by his dad -- the person in the video for the article you read yesterday about the Football Championship game.

The picture you see posted here today is Christopher at age 6.  What a miracle this is.

God is Good!!!!

Congratulations to The College Football Champion -- Alabama

Wow!  Another exciting football season has ended.

The Championship game has been played.

And the Winner is  Alabama 

Congratulations!

You probably saw the very exciting game --  with the final score of 45 to 40.

But, guess what? -- what?

The winners didn't have long to celebrate, nor the losers to weep before the projections of the Top 25 teams for 2016 were out !  Isn't this a little fast????

The Sabbatical is ending !

As many of you have noticed - the DITs ended abruptly in early January 2015 due to a fall resulting in several fractures of my left hand and wrist.

Obviously this realllly interfered with typing -- so the DITs had to stop.

Why for a whole year? you ask.

Wellllllll, for one thing -- when an OLD person breaks a bone (or in this case several bones), things do not heal fast.  In fact, the older you are, the longer the healing time takes.

All that to say -- since I am no longer 'young' -- even though my mind thinks I am -- the body knew I was 'old' so it took months and months and months to get out of the cast and then more months and months to get motion back  (and it is still not all back).

So, after about 6 or 7 months of this inability to type and post DITs, I decided to just take a Sabbatical for the rest of the year -- and to resume posting on the 'anniversary' of the accident -- which is today!

What is a Sabbatical? you ask.

Glad you asked because it is a very important concept - and Biblical at that.  In fact you might want to take one sometime -- but hopefully you will take it because you 'want' to and not because you 'have' to due to accident, injury, illness, whatever.

Yes it is true.

The writer and poster of the DITs fell on Thursday Jan 8, 2015

and broke the wrist -- as you see here 

and is now in a temporary cast until the pain and swelling goes down enough for the next step in treatment.

In the meantime -- due to the pain and inability to type except for a slow one finger hunt and peck --

there is and will be a hiatus for the time being.

Who knows how long the hiatus will last, but as you know -- these things don't heal fast.

Not a fun way to begin the new year.   : (

Please know that we are sorry to not be able to post the DIT's but will resume as soon as we can even if they are really short.

Flying is one thing but landings are tricky

             

 Model planes have come a lonnnnng way.

True Story:

Years ago my two brothers (not Wilbur and Orville) decided to build and fly a small model plane.

They worked and worked and finally had a beautiful little gas powered model airplane.

Excitedly they took it outside, fired up the little gasoline engine, and launched it.

Up up and away it went --

over the trees in the next yard and out of sight.

It was never seen again.

So much for their model airplane experience.

But times have changed.  My how they have changed.

Now model planes are almost life size and are launched at real airports.

A Ham friend of ours is apparently into this model airplane adventure.  Hopefully he will see this video.

Disposophobia

           

As the New Year progresses many folks are still 'into' doing their various 'resolutions', likely one of those resolutions is to get rid of 'stuff' and 'neat things up.'

For many, this will be a simple and enjoyable task.

For others -- it is a much more monumental task -- especially for folks with lots and lots of stuff.

So much 'stuff' that there is a name for it.

What is the name? you ask.

It is  Disposophobia!  

-- Also known by the more common name "hoarding".

Do you have it? Do you know anyone with it?

The Collyer brothers had it (though when I heard about them years ago, I thought their name was spelled Collier. Sigh. Oh well.) Anyway, they had it. Big time.

So, what is ‘Disposophobia’?  Let’s divide up the word and find out what it means:

Dispose  = get rid of by throwing away or giving or selling something to someone else  

+ Phobia = an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something

So, bottom line, this means ‘the fear of getting rid of something,  so you just keep it.’

And, yes, Disposophobia was a new term to me. But, I think I know several folks who have it.

Hmmm. Isn’t that what folks always say when they have the ‘problem’ and not the ‘others’ for whom they are ‘seeking help’? Oh, well, whatever.

A Saving Faith

          

It is a new year and many are likely 'doing daily devotionals' as part of their New Year's Resolutions.

The picture posted today is the famous painting by William Holman Hunt titled "Light of the World".

It is Christ standing at the door and knocking.

The picture illustrates Revelation 3:20: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock; If any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me".  

According to Wikipedia, Hunt said: "…The door in the painting has no handle, and can therefore be opened only from the inside, representing 'the obstinately shut mind' "

The DIT for today is a Daily Devotional written by Dr. Charles Stanley of In Touch Ministries.

It builds on that theme of an individual needing to open the door to their heart and mind and let Christ enter.

This very brief devotional is definitely something to consider and ponder.

Spurgeon's Morning and Evening

        

As the New Year Begins many are contemplating New Year Resolutions --

One of those Resolutions likely includes something like "to Get closer to God and do daily meditations"

Well, there is a classic book of Daily Devotions / Meditations that will be of great assistance in your resolution.

It is titled "Morning and Evening"

and was written by Charles Haddon Spurgeon, pictured here.

He was a British Preacher who lived from 1934 to 1892.  You can read about his life in Wikipedia

But back to the thought of Daily Devotions and New Year's Resolutions:

As we mentioned --One of his most helpful books was a book of devotions titled Morning and Evening.

You can put it on your phone if you have one of those fancy phones that has apps

Yoga: Is it for the Christian?

                 

It is the New Year and doubtless many have made and are beginning to act upon their New Year's Resolutions.

Another Year Begins

It is another New Year --

Which means it is time to once again make and begin New Year’s Resolutions.
