The Love of God

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement was observed by Jews on Friday and Saturday. Oct 3 and 4.

In the Old Testament Yom Kipper was observed annually by the sacrifice of a perfect Lamb whose blood atoned for the sins committed by the people of the Jewish nation in the preceding year.

But the death sacrifice of a perfect Lamb each Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) was not sufficient to fulfill the the death penalty for all sins for all people for all time.

It was only a picture of the coming future complete and final payment for sins.

It pictured the future sacrifice of a once and only perfect sacrifice to pay the death penalty for anyone -- Jew and non-Jew -- who would accept that free gift of the substitute death.

In the first Century, The Lord God Jesus Christ came to earth as the Lamb of God,  the perfect and final sacrifice.

Jesus' sinless life made him the perfect Lamb.

Jesus' sacrificial death as the Lamb of God provided the final and perfect atonement.

Jesus' resurrection 3 days later proved He was God, the Lamb of God, and the accepted atoning sacrifice.

Jesus' sacrifice was payment for all sins of all mankind and provides salvation for anyone who believes and accepts His atoning sacrifice.

Anyone can accept the free gift of salvation made available by Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God.

And it is essential that folks accept this free gift

Why?

Because --

There is no other way unto salvation except through Jesus Christ.

Our Sunday Hymn today begins with a very short message by Billy Graham explaining this -- followed by the hymn, The Love of God, sung by the Gaither  homecoming singers.
