Sunday Hymn -- When we walk with the Lord

It is Sunday and time for our Hymn.

Today it is a well known Hymn played on a piano -- perhaps as you used to hear it years and years ago before the snare drums and big bands entered the Church scene.

Yes, the words are included so you can sing along.

Budapest Air Show

Continuing with the subject of flying and airplanes -- as we are 'wont to do from time to time --

Our pilot friend who finds these things has 'struck again'.

This time she has found a video of highlights from the 2014 Air Show in Budapest.

Many of these stunts would never be allowed in the USA -- but they 'got away with them' in Budapest.

You will be amazed.

What to do with the Thanksgiving Leftovers

Yesterday was a day of feast and plenty.  And, wow what a good time everyone had and yum yum were all the dishes.

Yes, the Thanksgiving meal was wonderful and bountiful.

But now there are lots of leftovers.

What to do?  These leftovers are way too tasty to just throw out. or to give to the dog.

The famous turkey sandwich route is a staple left over ‘idea’.

But what else?

Well, with this question in mind and needing some answers,

we found a few sites with some really tasty and creative suggestions about what to do with those leftovers.

and if that isn’t enough HERE’S ONE MORE link to Turkey leftovers

Today is Thanksgiving

Today is my very favorite ‘Holiday’, Thanksgiving.

When I think of Thanksgiving my thoughts turn to turkey, dressing, wonderful side dishes, pies, cakes, and fellowship with friends and family --

as we give thanks to God for all the many blessings He has given us in the past year and indeed in our lifetimes.

What a wonderful holiday.

Hopefully you are observing this event with family and friends.

Or perhaps you are serving meals at a Church, Mission, etc.

Or, you might even be working.

But whatever you are doing, this is a very important time to Thank God for our blessings.

You probably know some of the history of this Holiday.

But, ‘thanks’ to the Revisionist History that is so rampant these days, the true history of Thanksgiving may be becoming muddled in your mind.

So to ‘unmuddle’ (is there such a word? probably not)  that history, our link today tells the true History.

So, with that by way of introduction

Doubtless you have heard of the Northern Lights.

Colugos

Colugos?  What in the world is that? you ask.

Well, this is a very unusual animal that spends most of its life gliding from tree to tree.

It spends almost no time on the ground.

You probably have not seen this amazing creature (unless you live in the forests of Southeast Asia).

But, thanks to an article in a recent Answers Magazine, you can learn about this very strange animal.

So, without further ado,

When did Cavemen live?

This is a question that has evoked much controversy in recent years.

Folks (with the evolutionary world view) think cavemen lived hundreds of thousands or millions of years ago.

The Biblical account would equate cavemen as descendants of people who were dispersed at the Tower of Babel event.

So which view is correct?

This excellent article has some very helpful information for you to consider as you ponder the answer to the question.

Sunday Hymn -- "I'd rather have Jesus"

George Beverly Shea, "America's beloved Gospel Singer" and Soloist for the Billy Graham Crusades for decades, passed away April 16, 2013.

He was 104 years old.

You surely recall his deep Baritone voice singing Hymns such as "How Great Thou Art", "Old Rugged Cross", "It is no Secret", and many many more.

The Hymn to which we are linking today, "I'd rather have Jesus", was sung by him at many Billy Graham Crusades.

You will be interested to know that although he didn't write the words to this song, he did write the music for it.

Some readers of DIT may recall a person named "Poppa Bear".  This was his favorite hymn.  Perhaps it is yours also.

46 more life hacks

"Life hacks" -- seems to be another new fangled title in the 21st century.

And, just between you, me, and the gatepost -- it is an odd term and I have no idea what it really means except to assume it is something like 'cool suggestions' or 'helpful hints from Heloise'

But whether you call these 'life hacks' as the young friend of DIT who found these would call them

or

if you call them 'Hints from Heloise' as old folks might call them --

by any title

these are wonderful.

Well, most of them are wonderful -- we do NOT advocate the 'hacks' for the wine and the beer --

But, transfer those 'hacks' / 'hints' to soft drinks or lemonade or whatever, and one can still use them.

And there are a few others that may or may not be helpful

but -- bottom line

You will surely get some great ideas from this list of 46 --

So, without further ado

Was the Dispersion at Babel a real event?

Folks debate and debate about whether the Biblical account of Babel is real or 'just a story'.

Perhaps you have wondered about this.

Well, to help you in your understanding of what happened we have found an interesting article.

Actually it is a short chapter from a book.

You will learn a lot.

Can you imagine a Boeing 767 as a glider?

Probably not

because

The Boeing 767 is a 'state of the art' airplane that is not intended to glide like a glider.

But in one instance Air Canada Flight 143, now nicknamed the Gimil Glider, became a glider.

Why?

Well sometimes 'state of the art' has its drawbacks in that that when the engines go out -- almost everything else goes out -- especially in the Boeing 767-233.

It seems that in that aircraft the engines provide the power needed for most of the instruments …

and

well, you guessed it.

A series of 'happenings' occurred that aren't on the checklist of 'what to do when …"

So, you ask:  "What happened?"

Good question.

A friend of DIT, who has a daughter and a son who are both commercial airline pilots (so she is attuned to such things), found this article and told us about it.

N.B. neither the daughter nor the son was one of the pilots in this situation.

Anyway

You will be amazed.

Dinosaur - The Allosaurus

A very interesting article about the Allosaurus Dinosaur was in the recent issue of Answers Magazine.

If you don't subscribe to this magazine, you should.

Why?

Because it has articles such as this and many more very informative articles each quarter.

But that (subscribing) is for then and this is for now.

And now we want to link you to a very interesting article in the Oct-Dec 2014 issue of Answers Magazine.

Tiny Cabin with Great views

Seems that more and more small dwellings are cropping up.

Some are just -- well -- small

but others are small and lovely.

A friend of DIT found this small but lovely example.

No, it is not the famous 'House in a Shoe' that we read about as kiddos.

But is is a verrrrry tiny house.

Check it out.

Naugahyde

Do you have a Naugahyde chair or couch somewhere in your house or apartment?

If so you are likely curious about the Nauga and its importance in the furniture making industry.

Nauga?

Yes.

Hmmm. I can hear you thinking as you say:

"I have heard of cowhide and deer hide and various other animal hides used to make chairs, couches, pillows, whatever.

"But --  a Nauga?

 "What is a Nauga?

"And, now that you mention it, I don't think I have ever seen a Nauga."

Well, those were my thoughts also when I first heard about the Nauga.

Years ago we had a Naugahyde chair and our dad said it took the skins of a thousand Naugas to make that chair.

Wow! A thousand Naugas ! So sad.

And Naugas must be small, I reasoned.

So, the search began.  I wanted to see a Nauga.

For years I searched -- in vain.

But, finally, the mysterious little Nauga has been found.

Want to know what it is and what it looks like?

Thought you did.

So, without further ado

But, do you know the story behind this hymn?

Probably not and we didn't either.

But it is included in the video we will view today.

Food Swap Hacks

Amazingly, a friend of DIT who is really 'into' french fries and other such things found today's  Interesting Thing.

What is it? you ask.

Well, it seems that many folks are eating things that are fattening or not very nutritious, or are not 'healthy' and ...

well, you get the idea.

So what to do?

Good News. Help is on the way --

in that he link today is going to suggest 15 things that would be wonderful replacements for the 'health challenged' (aka 'junk') food folks are eating.

You might want to consider some of these swaps even though a few of the 'swap' things may be new to you (they were to me).

Anyway, without further ado

Unlocking the Mysteries of Genesis

Today's DIT is so important that we are leaving it up for two days to give everyone a chance to see it.

What is it that is sooooo important? you ask.

Well, there is a new Video Series produced by ICR (Institute for Creation Research) -- and

Recently a friend of DIT allowed us to view the series which he had purchased to show to his Sunday School Class.

It consists of 12 DVD videos, each 22 minutes in length, which makes these perfect for settings such as Bible Study Groups, Sunday School Lessons, Homeschooling lessons, School Science classes, as part of a Church Worship Service, etc.

We highly recommend this series !!

So, what is so great about this series?

Glad you asked.

This quote from the front cover of the set sums it up in a nutshell:

"Strong in science. Strong in faith. This groundbreaking series presents the science of creation like you've never seen it"

And, wow, that is so true.

in addition to the superbly produced 12 DVDs, the set includes a 112 page viewer guide.

The Topics covered in the 12 DVDs are:
1. Chaos or Cosmos?
2. What is Life?
3. What is Man?
4. Buried Clues
5. Flood or Fiction?
6. How old is the earth?
7. Dinosaurs
8. The Ice Age
9. Rise of Civilization
10. Origin of the Universe
11. Uniqueness of Earth
12. Science and Scripture.

In these 12 DVDs, evidence is presented

"that confirms the Biblical account of creation and offers defensible answers to some of the most provocative and controversial question of faith and science.  How did life begin?  Where did humans come from? Was Noah's Flood real? How old is the earth?"

For more information including video clips of the series (be sure to watch these)

And for information re how you can purchase this series and a 'must watch' 2 minute introductory video, HERE'S THE LINK
