Softly and Tenderly Jesus is calling

It is Sunday and time for our Anthem of the week.

If you have been raised in an older generation, today's anthem is one you know by heart though it is rarely sung anymore.

For those of you who don't know this anthem

It was a much sung invitation hymn.

Invitation?  What do you mean?

Well, in many Churches after the sermon is concluded, an "invitation hymn" is often sung.

While that hymn is being sung, folks are  challenged to understand that

they are sinners and need forgiveness for their sins or they will not be able to enter heaven at the end of their life.

To receive this forgiveness, they are invited to turn to Jesus who died on the Cross to pay their death penalty --

3 days later Jesus rose visibly and physically from the dead -- thereby proving that He is God and, therefore, is able to forgive those who ask Him to forgive them.

While folks contemplated these thoughts, this hymn was frequently sung.

If you have not yet confessed your sins to God and asked the Lord God Jesus Christ to forgive you,

then while you listen to today's invitation hymn,

this would be a wonderful time to ask for and accept God's free gift of forgiveness and salvation.
