Going Solo
Recently a friend of DIT told us about an article he had just read in the February issue of the Smithsonian Magazine.
Article? What about?
Well, it seems that the number of folks who live alone (Going Solo) is much larger than you might expect.
The article was essentially a book review in which this information was revealed.
The title of the book, Going Solo… by Eric Klinenberg, a Sociologist at NYU, pretty well sums up the thought.
Amongst other things, Klinenberg has discovered that in the 1950s, approximately 4 million people lived alone.
But, today, that number has swelled to 32 million -- which he estimates to be approximately 28% of all households in the US.
Indeed, he adds, today "there are more American adults that are single than married."
And this is not only happening in the US but in many other countries as well. For example, the author states that in Stoclkholm Sweeden, "more than 50% of households are one-person."
WOW.
Who would have thought !
If you would like to read more of his findings and their implications (and you should), then HERE'S THE LINK
