Lions, Tigers, Tigons, and Ligers

When I first saw this article, the first thought that went through my mind was the famous line "Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my….Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my…"

But that is not what this article is about.

Instead, this article tells of Tigons and Ligers.

Tigons?  Ligers?  What?

Well, believe it or not, there are such animals.

Pictured here is a Liger, which is a cross between a lion and a tiger.

And they (Tigons, Ligers, and other similar 'strange' animals) help explain about the animals on Noah's ark.

'Jedi' religion popular alternative faith

 A few days ago (Sunday Dec. 9/ 12) we posted a link to an article referencing new startling statistics about Religion in the USA.

Today, there is another article about religion that is also startling.

What is it?

Well, as you can see from the title of today's DIT, it seems that in England and Wales the 'Jedi' religion is the most popular alternative faith.

How popular?

According to the article, 176,632 people in England and Wales consider themselves to be Jedi Knights.

200 Million year old cocoon?

A friend of DIT found this article and emailed us the link.

What is it?

Well, it seems that the 'old earthers' have found what they call a 200 million year old cocoon.

Amazingly it still has visible structures.

One would think that in 200 million years nothing would be recognizable especially when you consider that the report says that is realllllly small.

How small?

Well, the body is about the width of a human hair and contains a horseshoe shaped nucleus.

A nucleus 200 million years ago? That is not exactly a 'simple cell'.

It also has a tightly coiled stalk that the scientists say "may be one of the fastest cellular engines known …"

How fast is it?

Well, it is reported to "… coil at a speed of about 8 centimeters (3.1 inches) per second -- the equivalent of a human being walking across more than three football fields in one second."

Now, just between you, me, and the gatepost, this seems to be just toooooo  advanced for anything that is 200 million years old even if it was found in Antartica.

It would be more logical to view this as a relatively recent organism, one designed by the Creator God and which died during the one and only ice age.

Sigh.

"Christmas, Vikings, and the Providence of God"

That is the unusual title of a very interesting article in the Dec. Issue of the ICR Acts And Facts Magazine.

Fortunately it is also on the internet so even if you do not subscribe to this excellent magazine (and it is FREE so you should subscribe), we will link you to it so you will be able to read it.

Why do we suggest you read this article?  What is it about?

Well, you have heard of the famous Viking Battle of Oct 14, 1066, the Battle of Hastings.

But, did you know there was another earlier battle in 1066, on Sept 25, that also had very important consequences for all of us today?

NO?  Well, I didn't either till I read this article.   

The article begins with an examination of 4 (of 5) Witnesses that Testify for God…

These are important and you will be interested in what they teach.

But it is the 5th "Witness" to which the DIT of today is directed.

What is that 5th Witness? you ask.

Well, it tells about how God works in history and specifically, in this case, how God worked in the 2 battles in 1066 in such a way that George Washington, The USA,  the King James Bible, and Christmas were ultimately affected.

New startling statistics about Religion in America

A recent Pew Forum article reports that the number of Protestant adults in America has fallen to 48%, which is an all time low.

They further say that 20% of Americans now state they have no Religious affiliation at all.

This gets even more shocking when you look at the breakdown of that 20% with no Religious affiliation.

What is that breakdown?

Well, it seems that one-third of adults under 30 say they have no Religious affiliation at all and do not expect to become Religiously active in the future.

9% of those 65 and older also report no Religious affiliation.

Additionally, the number of Agnostics and Atheists is also increasing.

Sadly, this seems to correlate with what Jesus said in Luke 18:8 :  "… Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"

Today is the first day of Hanukkah

Today begins the 8 day Jewish Holiday of Hanukkah (Chanukah). 

It technically begins at Sundown on Dec. 8, 2012.

You may have also heard of this Festival / holiday by its other name ‘the Festival of Lights.’

As noted on the Chabad website, this holiday is a celebration of two miracles:

1) “The 2nd century BCE victory of a small, greatly outnumbered and out-armed army of Jews, known as the "Maccabees," over the mighty Greek army that occupied the Holy Land. The rebellion was in response to the Greek attempt to force a Hellenistic G-dless lifestyle on the Jewish inhabitants of Israel.”

2) “The kindling of a seven-branched Menorah (candelabra) was an important component of the daily service in the Holy Temple. When the Maccabees liberated the Temple from the hands of the Greek invaders, they found only a small cruse of pure and undefiled olive oil fit for fueling the Menorah. The problem was, it was sufficient to light the Menorah only for one day, and it would take eight days to produce new pure oil. Miraculously, the oil burned for eight days and nights.”

Today is Pearl Harbor Day

On December 7, 1941, America was attacked as enemy planes swooped in on our ships in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, causing great destruction, killing, and wounding many.

As a result of this attack, the United States entered World War Two.

You have likely heard about this from your parents and grandparents.

Perhaps you are old enough to recall it yourself.

Or you may have read about this in history book.

But, pictures always help make events such as this more understandable and meaningful.

Pictures truly are worth a thousand words.

Recently the news media carried a true story about a New York Policeman who bought boots and socks for a homeless man.

You doubtless saw the picture of that occasion.

Well, the story today is somewhat along the same line of kindness.

Whether this is true or not, I don't know, but it well could be.

Interesting Calendar Factoid / Tidbit

We recently received an email from an alert eagle eyed friend.

What did this friend find?

Well, it seems that this month, December 2012, is unusual in that it has 

5 Saturdays, 

5 Sundays, and 

5 Mondays.

Now that seems unusual and rare so we thought you would want to know.

The calendar pictured here doesn't have that pattern.

But, check the calendar on your desk, wall, computer, or phone and you will see that is true.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

Christopher Update

The little tyke in this picture is Christopher.

He is the little boy that we have been praying for that had the Heart Transplant, then a Kidney Transplant and….

He is now 3 years old! 

My, how time has flown.

Many of you might not know who Christopher is.

Those of you who do know about Christopher and his mega health problems will be thrilled to know that he is 3 years old and doing well.

Many of you have been asking how Christopher is doing.  

So, here is your answer …..

DNA seen via Electron Microscope !

We have heard about DNA for about half a century but until now we have only seen stylized pictures or cartoon images (such as the one shown here).  

So, DNA has not actually been seen.

But, believe it or not, now it has!

Wow. How?

Well, it seems that a Scientist, Enzo di Fabrizio, at the University of Genoa, Italy, and his team have managed to image it.

And, yes, it is every bit as complicated as we thought.

But, now that they have seen it, they need to begin to figure out how it works. 

And to think that evolutionists believe this amazing structure happened by chance.  

Not.

World's Worst Hunter vs. Stupid Deer

Recently while driving back from a fun Thanksgiving visit, we saw 7 deer who had met their demise by being struck on the highway.

Seeing those dead deer reminded me that this is also Deer Hunting season.

So even more are likely meeting their demise.

However, there is one deer that is verrrrrrry lucky.

It was on a road and even survived the Deer Hunting efforts of a hunter.

As the title of today's DIT indicates, this deer was either very lucky or the hunter was a really bad shot.
