World's Largest 10 Commandments

A friend of DIT who loves to travel told us of this most unusual site.

Seems there is a place in North Carolina that has one of -- if not the -- largest depiction of the 10 Commandments.

It is located in Murphy N.C.

The individual letters are made of concrete and are 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide.  WOW.

This is definitely a place that you should put on your 'bucket list' of things to see.

Texting while Driving

You probably heard of the terrible accident in Texas last week.

A pickup truck collided with a Church van.

13 People in the van were killed.

The driver of the pickup and one person in the van survived.

Reports are now indicating that the cause of the accident was because the driver of the pickup truck was texting.

We have been told repeatedly to NOT text and drive.  Indeed in some states it is a crime to text and drive.

However most people think they can text and drive with no problem.  Is this accurate?

Well actually, NO.

The link today is to a short video showing a driver driving while texting.  Notice how many times there is almost an accident until ---

Memory Explained

Are you getting older and wondering about your memory seeming to be slowing?

A friend sent this explanation in an email.

               "MEMORY EXPLAINED

"Brains of older people are slow because they know so much.

People do not decline mentally with age,
it just takes them longer to recall facts because
they have more information in their brains …

"Much like a computer struggles as the hard drive gets full,
so, too, do humans take longer to access information when their brains are full.

"Researchers say this slowing down process is
because the human brain works slower in old age,
…because we have stored more information over time.

"The brains of older people do not get weak.
On the contrary, they simply know more.

"Also, older people often go to another room to get something
and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for.

It is NOT a memory problem,
it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise.

"SO THERE.

"Now when I reach for a word or a name,
I won't excuse myself by saying
"I'm having a senior moment".

"Instead, I'll say, "MY DISK IS FULL!"

"I have more friends I should send this to,
but right now I can't remember their names . . . "

Hymn: There is Power in the Blood

Yes, there is power in the Blood -- the Blood of Jesus.

Jesus died -- and shed His Blood -- to be the atoning sacrifice for the sins of mankind.

"For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus)
that whosoever believes in Him might be saved"

The way to be free from your sins is to accept Jesus' substitutionary sacrifice of His death to redeem you (and me) from eternal death in Hell and to give us eternal life in heaven.

Today's Hymn speaks of that.

Sing, hum, or read along -- the words are provided.

Emergency Phone Numbers

For those of you who don't know -- the picture today is of a phone.  Really. No Kidding.

Apparently a lot of young folks have no idea of the concept of a Rotary Telephone.  Sigh.

Anyway -- with that said

A friend found today's information and passed it on to his Sunday School class and to us.

We don't know who wrote it but apparently it is a public domain type of document which you can pass it on to others.

What is it??

Well, it is a list of 'phone numbers' (Scriptures) which will give help, assistance, advice, encouragement, instruction, comfort, etc. in various situations.

This list has 27 different situations with 'Emergency Phone Numbers' to help with the solution.

You will want to print this list out, put it in your Bible or in a notebook, and use them when the need arises.

So, with that by way of introduction

HERE'S THE LIST of 27 Emergency Phone Numbers

Hymn - Nearer my God to thee

Sing along with the a capella singers.

Here are the Lyrics:

1.Nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!
E'en though it be a cross that raiseth me,
still all my song shall be,
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

2.Though like the wanderer, the sun gone down,
darkness be over me, my rest a stone;
yet in my dreams I'd be
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

3.There let the way appear, steps unto heaven;
all that thou sendest me, in mercy given;
angels to beckon me
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

4.Then, with my waking thoughts bright with thy praise,
out of my stony griefs Bethel I'll raise;
so by my woes to be
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

5.Or if, on joyful wing cleaving the sky,
sun, moon, and stars forgot, upward I fly,
still all my song shall be,
nearer, my God, to thee;
nearer, my God, to thee, nearer to thee!

How to have Access to God

Yesterday we observed that God is a Triune God.

Today we want to find out how to come to / Access God the Father.

Many people propose many ways to come to / Access God.

But, there is only one way !!!

 "For there is one God,
and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus"
                      (I Timothy 2:5).

The link today will explain why there is only one way to Access God.

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

What about God being Trinity?

Doubtless you have heard the arguments about the God of the Bible being a Trinity (Triune) God.

Some folks argue that this means the God of the Bible is 3 different Gods.

Others correctly say that God is One God with 3 aspects (Father, Son-Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.)

Many places in the Bible speak to this truth including this passage in the Book of Ephesians:

There is one body and one SPIRIT,
even as you are called in one hope of your calling:
One LORD, one faith, one baptism,
One God and FATHER of all,
who is above all, and through all, and in you all .
                  Ephesians4:4-6

A short devotional based on that verse in Ephesians explains.

Jessie Owens Memorial Park

Who was Jessie Owens? you ask.

Well, he was an outstanding Black athlete who, to the amazement of the world, broke many world records and won 4 gold medals in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany.

He was born in a tiny tiny town in Alabama -- which is the location of the Museum in his honor.

Recently several of us visited the Museum in Oakville, Alabama.  It was an awesome experience.

You should definitely put it on your bucket list of things to see and do.

Heads up: Daylight Savings begins tomorrow (Sunday)

Set your clocks before you go to bed tonight.

Why?

Because Daylight Savings Begins on Sunday.

So, it is time to SPRING FORWARD.

This means when you go to bed tonight, you will get less sleep.

Why?

Because at 2 AM on Sunday, while you are hopefully sleeping, clocks will spring forward and

When you wake up on Sunday, it will be later than you think, if you don't plan ahead.

So today's DIT is to remind you to set your clocks before you go to bed tonight.

This was Inauguration Day until 1937

The current President of the United States, was sworn in on Jan 20, 2017.

But did you know that Jan 20 was not always the date for the Inaugural ceremonies?

The very first Inaugural Ceremony was of George Washington and it was held on April 30, 1789 at the Federal Hall in New York City.

George Washington's second inauguration was on March 4, 1793.

Pictured here is a Postcard depicting the Second Inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt which was held on March 4, 1905, in Washington D.C.

In fact, From 1793 until 1933 all the inaugurations were held on March 4 (or on March 5 if the 4th fell on a Sunday).

Why?  Mainly because the weather made transportation difficult until the spring (or so I have heard).

But, due to the passage of the 20th amendment to the US Constitution, the March 4 date was changed to January 20 (or the 21st if the 20th is on a Sunday.)

Apparently transportation problems due to weather had improved sufficiently to do away with the March 4 date.

So, beginning in 1937 and continuing to the present, Presidents were and are inaugurated on January 20 (or on the 21st if the 20th is on a Sunday)

Interesting and thought you would want to know.

Hymn: Nothing but the Blood

Our Hymn today builds upon our devotional thought of yesterday.

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

O precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon this I seek
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
For my cleansing this my plea
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace
Nothing but the blood of Jesus
This is all my righteousness
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

O precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow
No other fount I know
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Today is Valentine’s day !

In America, many folks celebrate this day with Cards, Flowers (Roses, Bouquets, etc.), Chocolates, Jewelry, and even proposals of Marriage.

But, believe it or not, this is not just an American Holiday.

In Finland, for example, it is known as “Friend’s Day”

and in Guatemala it is known as “Day of Love and Friendship.”

And doubtless many other countries also celebrate this day.

But regardless of where you are -- Happy Valentines day.
