Language Families

In Genesis Chapter 10, the Table of Nations lists about 70 different families that were dispersed at the Tower of Babel event.

Interestingly today, even though there are almost 7000 languages, science is suggesting that there were about 70 original languages from which the current number has been derived.

Hmmmm.  Interesting.

Honeybees

Bees are amazing.

They look like a simple little flying critter

And surely their brain must be small

But, wow, the things they accomplish are remarkable.

To think they evolved by chance, as evolutionists propose, is beyond belief.

Bees are another example of a designer / creator at work.

When and How did the Grand Canyon Form?

As you know there are differing thoughts about how and when the Grand Canyon was formed.

The most 'popular' one today is that it was formed over millions of years by gradual erosion by the Colorado River.

How to get to Heaven and the Heavenly City

Yesterday's DIT was a sermon about Heaven and the Heavenly City.

Also yesterday a well known and famous overnight radio program interviewed a Physician who had written a book about NDEs.

NDEs?  What are they? you ask.

Well NDEs are "Near Death Experiences" in which folks have died (according to physical symptoms during operations, car accidents, etc) but subsequently returned to life.

Many times these people afterwards relate an experience they had while 'dead'.

The radio program to which we mentioned detailed many such NDEs but interestingly no one mentioned in his book reported a death experience in hell -- only wonderful Heaven experiences were related.

These experiences were then analyzed by the host and the person / author  -- and  affirmed  (or so they said) that EVERYONE goes to haven at death and there is NO judgment.

Also, they said, persons of all beliefs and faiths were in heaven.

They also touched briefly on reincarnation and other esoteric topics.

And there was more -- sigh -- but

Hmmmm.

These thoughts of universal salvation with no judgement or punishment plus the possibility of  reincarnation and etc. ALL definitely contradicts the Bible.

So -- What does the Bible say about WHO can go to heaven and HOW?

It says a lot -- but here are a few passages that you should ponder:

Who can be saved / admitted into heaven?
Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father (ie. can enter heaven), but by me (Jesus)."
John 14:6

And How is this possible?   Jesus Himself explained:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in him (Jesus) should not perish, but have everlasting life. (In Heaven)
John:3:16

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;  …
Hebrews 9: 28

And also -- Re Reincarnation -- it does NOT happen!  Why?  Because
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27

Goat Canyon Trestle

A friend of DIT found today's interesting link.

Seems there is a really old all wood trestle/bridge that is no longer functioning but for years it was a viable railroad trestle.

It is 'out west' in the USA and the article to which we are linking today tells about it but doesn't tell you how to get to it.

But not to worry about the location because

the region is so hot and dry and 'out in nowhere' that you probably don't want to walk to it anyway.

Believe it or not, the State of Illinois has an official State Fossil.

I kid you not.

It is the Tully Monster.

No one is exactly sure what it is but It was first discovered in 1955

One view is that the earth and universe is billions of years old --

The other view is that the earth is young -- in the thousands of years instead of millions or billions.

Even among those who believe in the young earth -- there are some that debate between 6,000 vs. 10,000 years.

Today is the 4th of July

What does this mean?

Recently I saw a college student being asked about this topic on a TV program.

The question was: "What year was the American Declaration of Independence  signed".

His hesitant answer was "1984?"

Houston we have a problem.

To help alleviate the fact that apparently History is no longer being taught --

Last week we viewed (pun intended) information warning us about the dangers of looking directly at a solar eclipse.

In that link we learned of one method to project and safely view the image of the eclipse without causing eye damage.

R.G. Lee Payday Someday

It is Sunday and usually on Sunday we worship with a Hymn

but today instead of a Hymn let's listen to a sermon.

A Sermon? Why?

Well, recently several of us were visiting in a Sunday School Class and the teacher mentioned that he and his wife had been married 50 years ago by Pastor R. G. Lee.

Now that name might be familiar to some of you.

For those for whom it doesn't ring a bell, well

R G Lee was pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tn. USA for many many years.

One of his sermons was so famous that he preached it over 1200 times at various pulpits around the world.

The sermon is based on 1 Kings 21 and reveals the sins committed by Ahab and Jezebel -- and God's judgment on all sin.

The message in this sermon makes it clear that all sin has consequences.

Dr. Lee died in 1978 but that sermon lives on and is available on YouTube.

This is such an important sermon and a true classic that we are linking to it today.
