The La Brea Tar Pits

You have probably heard of the La Brea Tar Pits, pictured here in a photo taken by Daniel Schwen and posted on Wikipedia.

They are located in Southern California and are famous for their contents.

What contents?

Well, seems that there are fossils of many many animals.  Some are familiar to us today and other are not.

They include fossils of saber-toothed cats, mastodons, camels, and numerous other animals and birds.

As you know, the 'theory' is that these big animals got trapped in the sticky tar and couldn't escape.

But, that might not be what really happened.

This article explains why getting trapped in the tar was not the reason and provides a more logical explanation.
