Amazing Pictures from Google Earth

As you surely know, there are a lot of satellites above us, many of which are taking pictures for various uses.

Not all of these are government satellites such as those by NASA and etc.

Some are commercial.

And, as you surely know, if you have had experience with Google Maps and Google Earth, Google has satellites --

-- and they are taking some amazing pictures such as the ones we will be viewing on today's DIT.

Wow!

These are really stunning.

A picture is worth a thousand words so HERE'S THE LINK

How Great Thou Art

This is another video that was found by a friend of DIT and emailed to us.

What is it?

Well, one guy, Vance Perry, is singing the very popular and well known song, "How Great Thou Art".

But this is not a solo as you would expect.

Rather he sings all 4 parts and sounds like a Barbershop quartet.  Amazing.

You will enjoy this 4 minute 8 second video.  HERE'S THE LINK

Eagle Owl in Flight -- Coming in for a Landing

This is another amazing but verrrrry short video.

It is only 59 seconds long and would have been even shorter had this not been a slow motion film.

So what is it?

Well, Seems that a very fancy camera that takes 1000 frames per second was directly in the path of an Eagle Owl coming in for a landing at the camera site.

WOW.  What an impressive approach and landing.

You will love this.

And to think that the Eagle Owl, his feathers, his flight, this precision -- all just happened by evolutionary chance.  NOT

Oops

Never say "Oops" in the operating room.

Har de har har.

But, aside from that…. today was / is an "oops" though we are not in an operating room.

Why "Oops"???

Wellllllll

Seems that we DIT folks have been without internet access for the past couple of days and have just now gotten back into the 'real world' with internet access --

-- and that is why there was / is no DIT for today.

We had hoped to post the DIT  while we were vacationing at Fall Creek Falls State Park in TN.

And, although that is a fine place to visit with nice cabins to rent and scenic things to see, alas it does not have either Cell Phone OR Internet access!!!!!!

UNbelievable !!!!! And surprising.  And this was a HUGE surprise to us.

SOOOOOOO, that is why we were unable to post a DIT for today.

Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.

Hopefully, now that we are back into the 21st Century world (with phones and internet and etc), there will be, Lord willing, something for Sunday.

So, stay tuned and thanks for your patience and understanding.

What did the early Christians believe about Hell

Yesterday we saw a spoof about cell phones in a Church and if you don't turn them off, you will go to Hell.

Well, that is NOT what will send a person to Hell, of course.

But since the topic of Hell has come up --- Let's think about it in today's DIT.

You have probably wondered about Hell. Likely you have even discussed this topic with others.

It is a 'hot' topic (pun intended) and one which does need to be correctly understood.

Why?

Because, those who do not go to Heaven WILL spend eternity in Hell.

So what exactly is Hell? What will it be like?

This is what folks are discussing or thinking about.

Today, there are almost as many 'views' about Hell as there are people considering it. And most of these 'views' are wrong.

So wrong, in fact, that, today, the concept of Hell has been so watered down (but alas there is no water in Hell) that it is no longer 'scary' or something to be feared.

But, what did the early Christians and Church Fathers believe about Hell?  Knowing what they believed and taught will perhaps help bring us back to the correct understanding of Hell.

To read an interesting and important summary of the teachings of many of the prominent Church fathers, HERE'S THE LINK

Cell Phones in a church

When we go to concerts, plays, movies, etc. we are repeatedly told to turn off our cell phones.

But have you been told to told to turn off your cell phones and electronic devices in Church?

Well, one Church in California has really taken this 'no cell phones or electronic devices seriously, perhaps toooooo seriously.

We hesitated for a long time to post this because it is somewhat sacreligeous but it is funny soooo

Check out this 1 minute 3 second humorous? video. HERE'S THE LINK

Who were the Cavemen?

If you have been to school in the past 40 or 50 years, you have been told that the cavemen lived 'long long ago' … perhaps hundreds of thousands of years ago… and were not very smart.

But, if you went to school before that time, you heard a different history for the cavemen.

So, who were the cavemen, when did they live, and what did they know and do?

These are very important questions and the answers do much in formulating a person's world view of life.

An article in a recent Answers magazine has some answers.  HERE'S THE LINK

New Mayan Find: Panels Predict 2012 "End Date"

Yes, more news about that mysterious Mayan Calendar..

Seems this Mayan "End Date' stuff never ends (pun intended).

And, although, as you know, folks have debated this 'endlessly', here is even more fuel for the fire so to speak.

What Now?

Well, watch this brief 1 min 51 sec video and see the 'latest'.  HERE'S THE LINK

Getting Fuel from Bacteria

What?

Yes. Tis true.  It looks like scientists are finding more and more interesting and innovative ways to make fuel.

And now they are starting to get it from bacteria.

Who would have thought?

Well, Marty McFly in the movie, Back to the Future, would not be surprised as you will see in the article you will be reading today.

So, with that said by way of introduction, you will be most interested in what is happening in the world of fuel technology.

Looks like we are "not in Kansas anymore, Toto."

More about the Higgs Boson -- it raises questions

Recently we were discussing the topic of the Higgs Boson with a reader of DIT who said she was enjoying reading about this and other Science related topics.

So, since some folks are 'into' this,

Today let's revisit the Higgs Boson

and specifically consider the fact that questions arise from its discovery, assuming it has been or is discovered, -- questions that produce a conundrum for atheists.

What?

Well this is another video from the Carl Gallups Ministry

and it discusses "the 3 Dreaded L's" that the discovery of a Higgs Boson does not answer

What Highway Numbers mean

It is the weekend and many folks will be hitting the road for a short or longer trip.

For some, it will be to a nearby campground.

For others, to a more distant location.

But for all, highways will be used if you are driving, biking or on a motorcycle.

Highways.  Hmmm.

You know they have numbers which are a great help in finding the right road.

But did you know that the numbers have even more 'meaning' than just numbers pulled out of a hat?

This short video (which sometimes loads slowly so be patient) has some really interesting information about what those numbers mean and the extra 'clues' they can provide as you travel.  HERE'S THE LINK

How to prevent Moldy Berries

This was sent to us in an email by a friend of DIT.

We don't know who provided the information in the email but it does seem to be 'chemically correct' so we thought you would like to know how to make your berries last longer.

So, with that by way of explanation, here is the "how to" information":

Berries are delicious, but they're also kind of delicate.
Raspberries in particular seem like they can mold before you even get them home from the market. There's nothing more tragic than paying $4 for a pint of local raspberries, only to look in the fridge the next day and find that fuzzy mold growing on their insides.
Well, with fresh berries just starting to hit farmers markets, we can tell you that how to keep them fresh! Here's a tip... on how to prevent them from getting there in the first place:

Wash them with vinegar.

When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar (white or apple cider probably work best) and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted you can't taste the vinegar) and pop in the fridge.

The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.
So go forth and stock up on those pricey little gems, knowing they'll stay fresh as long as it takes you to eat them.
You're so berry welcome!         : )
And as an 'editor's note'.... we at DIT suspect this will also work with most fruit.

Holographic exhibit of Lucy

Recently we mentioned that you should strongly consider visiting the Creation Museum in Kentucky, located just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio.

So, why would you want to visit this museum?

Well, one reason is to view the new exhibit.

What exhibit?

It is a Holographic high tech display of Lucy.

The Nazca Lines

Have you heard about these most unusual lines?

They are located in Peru and can only be seen and appreciated from the air.

Hmmmm. Interesting.

So who made them? When? How?

That is the big mystery.

Of course there are may 'theories' about their origins.

And, depending on your world view, these theories range from they represent landing zones for UFO's to they were made by humans sometime in the past.

These lines are real.  I have seen them in person.

To read more about these lines and to see more pictures, HERE'S THE LINK

The "Disease" of Millions of years

Many folks deny that Evolution happened, and rightly so.

But many of those same folks also believe that earth and the universe has been around for millions and or billions of years, not a short time of a few thousand years as is taught in the Bible.

Is there anything wrong with taking the approach that evolution did not happen but long long periods of time is true?

This brief article will give you some food for thought.  HERE'S THE LINK.

Biggest Domino Pyramid ever … almost

You have surely seen various domino structures being built;

Several have even been posted here as DITs (Daily Interesting Things).

As you know, many domino structures are built just to be crashed

and many are designed to fall in an intricate pattern.

Still others were built to stand forever (or a very long time).

The domino pyramid you will see in the DIT video today is / was surely designed to be one of those "stand forever" projects.

However …

Well, before we give away the punch line, you will want to see this 'must see' video.

It is only 53 seconds in length but WOW.  HERE'S THE LINK

Lightning Bugs

It is summertime and time for you and / or the 'kiddos' to go outside and enjoy the wonderful weather and (gasp) bugs.

Enjoy bugs?  What ever do you mean? you ask.

Well, for one thing, I am thinking of the Lightning bugs (aka fireflies).

Here you see the firefly in the daytime in this picture made by Bruce Martin and posted on Wikipedia.

You remember these amazing little 'critters'.  And surely you recall their amazing flashes of light that they give off in the night time.

But, how do they do this and why?

For a brief article that will explain this, HERE'S THE LINK

There are the usual ideas -- camping, visiting various National Parks, etc.

But, have you considered the Creation Museum in Kentucky?

In Kentucky?  Where? Tell me more.

Well, it is just across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio and is really close (just a few miles) from the Cincinnati airport.  It is also on the Interstate.

Radiohalos

Dr. Andrew Snelling, a PhD Geologist, has written a very interesting article about Vanishing Halos.

Vanishing Halos?   What are you talking about? you ask.

Well, this is Part 2 of a 3 part series in the Answers Magazine. There is a link in the article to Part 1 should you want to read it and you surely will.

Anyway, wow, Parts 1 and 2 both provide some reallllly intersting information about "a great mystery in granite rocks."

Part 3 will be in the next issue of the Answers Magazine but that will not come out until about Oct. of 2012.   So, in the meantime, Parts 1 and 2 can bring you up to speed.

Many of you probably have granite counter tops in your kitchen so you probably have these mysterious halos in your kitchen.

Whether you are 'scientifically inclined' or not, you will want to at least scan this article.

Why?

Because the findings reveal some really interesting and important information about how and when granite rocks were formed.
