Breathtaking views from space

Awhile back, on January 19, 2013, we posted a DIT about life in the Space Station.

And we observed that from time to time they look out the portals to view the earth.

But only brief glimpses of what they were seeing outside was shown.

However, today, thanks to a friend of DIT who sent us this link, we can now see what they see.

This 4 min 48 seconds video (after a commercial which you can stop) is amazing and beautiful.

It depicts "What an Astronaut's Camera Sees at Night (from the ISS).

And if that isn't enough SPACE viewing for you and you'd like to see more.

Good news, there is another (again with a commercial that you can stop) made by the same group.

This second video is 4 minutes and 15 seconds in length. HERE'S THE LINK

Shavuot - Feast of Weeks begins Today

Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld (1794-1872) painted this picture of Ruth in the Field of Boaz.

You will understand it better when you learn about Shavuot - The Feast of Weeks.

The article to which we will link today tells us:

"Christians across the world will celebrate the Feast of Pentecost on Sunday, May 19th this year, but they may easily overlook the Hebrew feast that predated it. The Jewish holiday, Hag Ha Shavuot--The Feast of Weeks-"

What is the Feast of Weeks?

And Why is it important?

And what does the picture of Ruth in the Field of Boaz have to do with the Feast of Weeks?

This very brief article will explain.

Isaiah 65:24

Recently we received one of those 'tear-jerkers' emails.

It tells of an amazing answer to Prayer.

We, of course, wondered if this was a true story or if it was just one of those 'tear jerkers' that could be true.

But, yes, it is true and was a real life personal experience of Dr. Helen Roseveare.

Who is she?

Well, as will be noted at the end of the story --

"Helen Roseveare a Doctor missionary from England to Zaire, Africa told this as it had happened to her in Africa. She shared it in her testimony on a Wednesday night at Thomas Road Baptist Church"

So, yes, this is a true story.

So what is this story? And what was this amazing answer to prayer?

The hot water bottle pictured above is a clue --

But, first, you need to know what Isaiah 65:24 says which is:

"And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer;
and while they are yet speaking, I will hear."
Isaiah 65:24

And now, for the story, HERE'S THE LINK

And if you would like to know more about Dr. Helen Roseveare, HERE'S A LINK

More about the Higgs Boson 'God Particle'

Recently a friend of DIT sent us an article about the Higgs Boson and the claims that Scientists are making regarding it.

That article stated that the Higgs Boson (aka the 'God Particle') has been found and she wondered what we at DIT thought about this.

We are not posting that particular article since we just summarized the main thought of what it said.

However, we found another article in which a PhD Astronomer, a PhD Astrophysisist, and others evaluate this 'discovery' from the Biblical perspective.

I think you will find it very interesting and informative.  HERE'S THE LINK

The Cicadas are coming !!!

Cicadas?   What's that?

Well, you have heard (pun intended) of these.

Sometimes they are referred to as a "tree cricket" and you have likely seen the empty shells from which they emerge.

There are many many species of these noisy critters that emerge in cycles.

Most are seen annually in small groups but some are seen in mega mega groups  in 13 and 17 year cycles.

The ones coming now are in the 17 year cycle and are known as the "Magicicada"

17 Years?  what do you mean?

Well, it seems that every 17 years Cicada Magicicadia emerge from the ground when the ground temperature reaches 64 degrees and --

Wow -- they are almost innumerable and very very very loud.

Get ready.  They are coming.

They might be coming to an area near you, depending, of course on where you live.

To find out more about this soon to happen event, HERE'S THE LINK

And to read about them in more detail, including a video showing one coming out of its shell, HERE'S THE LINK

Hold on to your phone or it can get stolen

A recent article tells about a CNN Anchor in Atlanta getting her phone stolen.  If you haven't seen the article HERE'S THE LINK.

It was a snatch, grab, and go thing which is becoming rather widespread, so much so in fact that there is a name for this.

What is the name? you ask.

Apple Picking.

And it happens not just to folks walking down the street --

Subway and Train riders and other folks in public places should also be aware.

And it is not just Smart Phones that are being 'picked'.

The pickers / thieves  are also going after iPads, computers, and other small electronic devices.

A video posted on the net shows Apple Picking happening on a train.

Bottom line.  Be extra careful when you are using your iPhone, Smart Phone, or other small  electronic devices in public places.

What made the Titanic band keep playing

Those of you who know the story of the RMS Titanic, the steamship which hit an iceberg and sank on April 10, 2012, probably also know that the band kept playing as the ship went down.

Why?

Why did the Titanic band keep playing?  Why did they not get into one of the lifeboats and escape?

Well, a friend of DIT may have found the answer and sent us a link to an article  which likely answers the question.

Also, as you probably know, the song / hymn the band played as the giant ship sank was "Nearer my God to Thee".

If you would like to hear a piano play the hymn as you read the words, HERE'S THE LINK

And if you would like to read the Wikipedia account of the sinking, HERE'S THE LINK

Meteor Showers this weekend

Heads up everyone -- Weather permitting this weekend could be a wonderful time to check out the sky.

Why?

Because, according to an article to which we will be linking "Meteor showers (are) peaking now, (this) could be a once in a lifetime sighting"

Wow.

Hams will find this especially interesting because they like to bounce signals off the meteor trails -- but that is another story for another time.

In the meantime everyone, Hams (Amateur Radio Operators) or not, should check the skies this weekend for the meteors.

To read more about this, HERE'S THE LINK

Are there Gaps in the Genesis Genealogies?

This is another of those questions that you have likely heard asked or you may have personally wondered about this.

And you have probably heard folks (wearing old earth glasses) say "yes, there are gaps and they are reallly big."

But, is this true?

Are there gaps?

If so -- how many and how many years are involved?

If not -- then what does this mean?

Well, we found a short but concise article that answers these questions.

Bible Maps

Technology seems to be doing away with paper maps.

Folks now pull out their smart phones, open Waze or some other navigating program, and away they go following the GPS provided  information.

In fact, a recent visitor used GPS maps on an iPhone exclusively to come and go from our location. There was no paper map in the car and there were no notes scribbled on paper -- Just the iPhone and an online navigating program.

Wow.

But, as wonderful as those smart phones are, they are lacking when it comes to Biblical Maps.

So, the link today will take you to an amazing and comprehensive Map Site.

It has maps with helpful information for Bible Students and Teachers.

Yes, these are still 'technology' maps in that they are not on paper but on a computer, though I guess you could print them out.

Anyway, this is a site you will want to click into your favorites and use as you read and study your Bible.

Who's your Daddy?

This story came to us by email sent to us by a DIT-er.

It is one of those emails that goes round the internet, so when it arrived, I was, of course, skeptical.

But, guess what, there is truth to this story.

According to Wikipedia it is …."a story entitled "Who's Your Daddy?", which circulated via email. The story, though considerably embellished, was based on incidents Hooper recalled in his autobiography."

So what is this email story you ask?

And to read 'the rest of the story' as reported in Wikipedia, HERE'S THE LINK
