It's New Year's eve

At midnight in each time zone as the new year rolls around the world -- things happen !

The Ball drops in Times Square of New York.

The Peach drops in Atlanta, Ga.

Fireworks light up the sky in many cities and communities around the world.

Families and friends light fire crackers and small firework displays in their yards.

Some people observe the passing of the old year and the beginning of the new year in prayer, reading the Bible, attending group worship services, working, or perhaps sleeping.

But, whether you are awake or asleep, reveling, celebrating, or worshipping,

the Old year passes and a New Year begins.

Of course, no one knows what will happen in 2020.  It is yet to unfold.

But here's wishing you a Happy New Year.

No click through today -- just contemplate or whatever

What is a Christian?

There is a lot of confusion these days about ‘What is a Christian’.

Some just use the name, 'Christian’, without understanding what a real Christian is.

Their life styles do not suggest that they are a Christian as often the person lives, acts, thinks, talks, etc. just like a non-Christian.

So what is a Christian really?

Well, a good and succinct answer to that question came in a snail mail letter that I received awhile back from Samaritan's Purse.

Going to their website I was unable to find it posted online so perhaps it is only in printed form.

Not knowing who wrote it, though it might have been Franklin Graham, the President of Samaritan’s Purse, still, it is definitely a must read.

So, without further ado --

to read this answer for yourself,

Why Jesus came down from Heaven

The excitement of Christmas is winding down.

And perhaps some of you have already taken down your Christmas trees and decorations.

Some of your gifts have possibly been returned to the stores

and others you are hopefully enjoying.

But as we reflect on this and every Christmas season

we are reminded of WHY we celebrate Christmas and what is the GREATEST of All Christmas Gifts.

What is / was that? you ask

And the answer is - The Greatest Christmas Gift and the One for which the Christmas season celebrates is --

                     JESUS

For an explanation of why Jesus is the Greatest of ALL Christmas gifts and why Jesus came to earth as a tiny baby and what this means for all mankind --

A Merry Christmas Card for you

All of you have all been wonderful to visit our DIT (Daily Interesting Things) site this year.

And we do thank you for visiting.

But since we are not sure where you live or what your email addresses are....

We are sending this very special Christmas Greeting in an unusual way.

Alas the proverbial ‘snail’ will not get to deliver the mail but cyberspace will do the task.

And, since we can use cyberspace, we are sending this very special “Christmas Card’.

We did not create the card ourselves but a friend found it and sent it to us via email and we thought it was soooooo wonderful that we want to share it with you.

So without further ado

HERE'S THE LINK TO A Merry Christmas Card for you

Hanukkah begins at sundown

What is Hanukkah?

Well, Hanukkah is a Jewish Holiday, also known as the Feast of Lights.

It is not as famous or as well known as the other Jewish Holidays such as Passover -- But it is a very interesting and important Holiday.

Hanukkah is celebrated for 8 days and 8 nights and commemorates the the victory over the Maccabees and the ensuing miracles during the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem.

Hanukkah is also spelled Chanukah or Hannukah.

Today is the first day of winter --TheWinter Solstice

Yes, Dec 21 is the First Official Day of Winter!

But try to tell that to the folks in the NorthEast USA and elsewhere around the world who are trying to dig out from humongous snowfalls.

‘Winter’ came a few days early for them and others this year.

Of course, some people really like winter. Don’t ask me why. I am sure not one of them. In fact, as I have often said, “If I never see another snowflake as long as I live, it will be fine with me.”

But, I digress. So, to continue. As you know, the occasion of the Winter Solstice is important for several reasons, not the least of which is that the days which have been getting shorter and shorter for the past several months, will now begin to get longer and longer! Yay!

It will be a slow and incremental increase in the length of each day-- culminating eventually with the longest day of the year each year at the Summer Solstice.

But, today, we are thinking of the Winter Solstice. And, we are not the only folks who have found this to be an interesting and important time of the year.

The ‘ancients’ (who supposedly were ‘ignorant’, knuckle dragging entities-- according to those with the evolutionary glasses) knew about the Winter Solstice and even erected structures (monoliths, buildings, carins, etc.) to help them know exactly ‘when’ the Winter Solstice occurred.

One of these structures is known as Maes Howe (also known as Maeshowe). I have visited this site and other similar sites such as the Chambered tomb of Newgrange. These sites are famous for their midwinter (Winter Solstice) alignments.

Many of these sites today have video cameras set up so we can sit at our computers and see what the ‘ancients’ saw millennia ago. One of these cameras is at the Maeshowe site.   I don't think it is working this year but the links on the website will explain about MaesHowe and other similar locaetions so --

Check it out.

Because it is a time lapse video of the development of a salamander from its original single cell.

Hmmm.  Interesting that some folks think this all happened by accident.

Sigh.

Looks to me like there is a Designer behind all this interaction, development, and activitiy.

What do you think?

Anyway
