Everyone gets email -- unless they have just returned from Mars or a Rip Van Winkle sleep and haven't yet signed up.
But many folks are overdoing email to the degree that it has become very time consuming.
Amen to that, you say.
So, can anything be done to simplify this important, fast, and useful way of communicating?
Well, a tweet on Twitter (oh, oh -- that could also be a topic for another day) had a link to a suggestion about what to do about Email.

As most of you are well aware, the Baseball World Series is in full swing (pun intended).
The St. Louis Cardinals are playing the Boston Red Socks.
Recently, while visiting a friend of DIT, he got an email from a friend who is a serious Red Socks fan.
It was so hilarious that he read it to those in the room with him -- and they also erupted with laughter.
What was it that was so funny?, you ask.
Well, here is what was in the email:
"I want to go back in time and talk to my 12 y/o self.
I'm tell him that one day 20 years into the future
I'll go on my iPad, access my gmail account, open an email from the Red Sox, and download PDF tickets for the World Series.
My 12 y/o self will look confused, ponder all this information,
and finally reply
"No chance the Red Sox are in the World Series !!!" … ...

Yesterday we reported on the passing of Ben Haden into eternity.
It was noted in one of the articles about his home going that one of his favorite songs was "Jesus Loves Me".
So our Sunday Hymn today is that song.
It is likely that this song is one of your favorites also, so feel free to sing along with the children.

Many of you are likely very familiar with Ben Haden.
The mother of the editor of many of the DIT's certainly was.
She watched him on TV for years from her home in Memphis and later in Arkansas.
Now in heaven she was surely among the large crowd that welcomed him to his final eternal home on Thursday Oct 14, 2013.
To learn more about his life we found a few links (all of which you should read).
First is an article on Channel 3 TV in Chattanooga. HERE'S THE LINK
Another Article was posted on the Channel 12 TV site. It also has a short must watch video (after a short commercial). HERE'S THE LINK to Television Pastor Ben Haden dies at 88
Next, an article in the Chattanooga Newspaper, The Times Free Press gives additional details. HERE'S THE LINK to "longtime First Presbyterian Pastor Ben Haden dies"

Some of you may have seen this before.
We have at DIT and when a friend sent this in an email, we knew it was a tear jerker and hesitatingly opened it.
Yes, it is still a tear jerker but get out your Kleenex and read it.
Well, in addition to being poignant, it has a lesson for all of us regarding our relationships with others.

Did you know that today, October 23, is the World's Birthday?
And, no, the world is not celebrating a big bang ‘birth’ that supposedly occurred billions and billions of years ago.
The earth is actually much much younger than that.
So, how old is the world really?
How about 6,015 years?
That is what Bishop James Ussher has calculated in his book, Annals of the World.
Who was Bishop Ussher and how and why did he calculate the age of the world?
Well, to discover the answer to those questions and more, HERE'S THE LINK to Ussher and the date of creation

A friend of DIT actually sent this as an email but searching around we found the source site on the internet.
What is this?
Well, it seems that someone who apparently graduated from High School in 1960 has created a website.
And what is so interesting about that? you ask.
Well, for readers of DIT who relate to that general time frame, this will bring back oodles of memories.
And for the rest of you, and especially young folks, you will be amazed at how different things were in those days.
This is a site that folks both young and old will enjoy.

Recently several of us viewed the movie "Facing the Giants".
But this DIT is not about that movie -- though it is a 'must see'
Rather, this DIT is about tears.
Well, during that movie tears were shed by the viewers.
Which brings us to the topic of 'tears'.
A friend of DIT recently sent an article about tears.
Seems that not all tears are the same.
Hmmm. Not the same? What do you mean?
Well, to find out, HERE'S THE LINK to Tears, Why do people cry?

Recently we visited folks who homeschool their kiddos.
One of the kiddos (a 6th grader) handed me a short paper he had just written as an assignment.
The assignment was to take a short paragraph on the topic of cephalopods.
Then, he was to add "dress-ups" to make the paragraph more exciting.
The "dress ups" were:
a strong verb,
who/ which clause,
a because clause,
a quality adjective,
and www.asia words
which were (where, when, while, as, since, if, although).
He wrote a very interesting and informative paragraph about cephalopods.
What was his article and what are cephalopods? you ask.
Well, to answer those questions --

You may have heard of this tree. It is a bristlecone pine, located in California, and
is also known as "The Methuselah Tree"
Because Methuselah was the oldest person in the Bible, living to be 969 years old when he died.
But, guess what.
The Methuselah Tree is much much older than its namesake.
The Methuselah Tree is 4,844 years old according to some calculations
Why is this such an interesting number / age.
Think about it.
According to the Bible, the Flood of Noah occurred in about 2347 BC (Usher's Numbers) which would make that event having occurred about -- are you ready for this --- about 4350 years ago.
Obviously, after the flood everything having been totally wiped out, had to start over from scratch -- plants, trees, etc.
So the oldest living tree, the Methuselah Tree, falls right in that age range of growth beginning again after the flood.
This tree's location is kept secret so folks won't find it and cut it down.
But, there are pictures. Want to see them?
Figured you would -- so

Doubtless you have seen or heard about the new iPhone 5 and its new operating system.
And you have likely heard that it has fingerprint identification built in.
Well, apparently the iPhone can use your fingerprint for ID instead of the common password technology which has been used for years.
Want to know more about this?
Thought you did.
We found a very important article which you will want to read whether you own an iPhone or not, because this new technology is the tip of the iceberg and will soon be in much more than the iPhone.

Yes, According to an entry in the iPhone App"On This Day" this day does not exist !
Does not exist ? ! ?
The entry in the App states:
"Because of the implementation of the Gregorian calendar, this day does not exist in this year (1582) in Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain."
But, read that sentence again carefully.
It is the year 1582 in which that day did not exist.
But today does exist today
soooooo since today exists, you have to get up and go to work or do whatever it is that you have scheduled for today, which for most folks is to watch football or baseball games or other sports events.
Therefore, there is no click through today -- just go do what you have to do --
And ponder the thought that in 1582 today, Oct 12, did not exist.

In the first chapter of Genesis, we learn that God created plants and animals "according to their kinds"
What are "Kinds"? you ask.
Current terminology in schools today speak of genus, species, etc. but the term '"kind" is not mentioned.
So, what exactly is a "kind" and how does it relate to the terminology used today?
This very interesting and instructive article from "the New Answers Book 3" explains .

"God's awesome Creation" was the title given to us when a friend of DIT sent the link.
If you love birds, and who doesn't, you will love this 5 minute 38 second video.
Of course, the old earth evolutionary glasses were worn by the creators of this video.
Yet, they admit they have no explanation for how or why these amazing birds evolved the characteristics they display.
Hmmmm. How about they didn't evolve -- but were created this way !
Check out these beautiful amazing birds and see what makes more sense.
Evolved? or Created?

Recently a person who had noticed that his friend had been reading the book, "Killing Jesus" by O'Reilly, asked him what he thought about the book.
The reader of the book said he had not yet finished it but thought it was great.
Then additional questioning began among several in the room.
The general line of thought by the questioners was that O'Reilly did not state in the book that Jesus was God.
The reader said he had no problem with that.
If Jesus was not God and if Jesus had not died to pay the sin penalty for mankind, then why did Jesus have to be killed?
It seems that O'Reilly has totally missed the point of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
If you are considering reading this book, perhaps you should first read the following three book reviews.
First, HERE'S THE LINK to a book review of Killing Jesus which explains why evangelicals should be aware of its deficiencies.
Next, If would would like to check out more reasons why you should not waste your time reading this book, HERE IS ANOTHER "Killing Jesus" REVIEW

Peaking on Monday and Tuesday nights this year.
The Draconid Meteors are not as well known as some of the other meteor showers such as the Perseids.
But the best thing about the Draconid Meteors is that you can see them in the evening rather than at dawn.
Alas, Monday night might have been the best of the nights to view these but, hey, since they are in the evening, check them out today (Tues). Who knows.
The link today will explain about them and how to best view them (and other meteor showers).
Unfortunately there is an advertisement before the brief explanatory video begins, but bear with it as it will be worth the wait.
So, with that by way of introduction,

Known as the most colorful tree on earth, the Rainbow Eucalyptus tree is truly amazing.
We first heard about this tree from friends of DIT who live in Hawaii and mentioned on Facebook that they had seen this tree and posted pictures.
Of course, seeing postings on FB is hard for many folks to do
so we searched the net and found a page with awesome pictures of these trees.
And, no, the trees are not colored with pencils or crayons, they really look like this. God put this in their makeup when He created them.

Today's Hymn is a favorite of many, especially the 'old timers'
Why is it a favorite of 'old timers' and not of 'young timers'? you ask.
Well, mainly because Hymns are not sung in Churches any more so 'young timers' are not even aware that they exist, much less know them and love them.
As noted in the write up just below the video --
The Hymn, Take the Name of Jesus with you, "was written by Mrs. Lydia Baxter on her sick bed just four years before her death in 1874 at the age of 65." …
You will want to hum or sing along to this 2 minute 3 second video.

Recently a poodle who is a DIT fan was seen looking over its barricade.
Reminding the viewer of 'Kilroy' this picture was taken.
Have you heard the phrase, "Kilroy was here"?
Do you know who 'Kilroy' is / was?
Well, if you are an 'old timer' or a history buff you do.
But, if not, you really need to know about Kilroy.
And even many old timers don't know the whole story about Kilroy and how he and the expression came to be.
But after you check out this brief article, you will.

Pictured here is Christ's descent from the cross by Ruben
Why this picture?
Because it has to do with Propitiation.
But, you ask, "What does Propitiation mean?"
The computer dictionary defines this word as:
"propitiation |prəˌpi sh ēˈā sh ən|
the action of propitiating or appeasing a god, spirit, or person :
he lifted his hands in propitiation.
• atonement, esp. that of Jesus Christ.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from late Latin propitiatio(n-),
from the verb propitiare (see propitiate )."
For an even better understanding of this BIG word, we found a short short article that will explain.
But, Why do you want to know about Propitiation ?
Because this is one of (or actually the) most important concept/s you will ever encounter in your life.
It is a word you must understand.

Recently we saw a big billboard advertising the Messiah's Mansion.
Then a friend of DIT called and said there was an article in his newspaper telling about it and suggested that we check it out.
So, we found the website.
And guess what, this is a full scale model of the Old Testament wilderness temple built by Moses and the Israelites.
It apparently goes around the USA and Canada annually.
Alas, only two cities remain for the 2013 season. They are:
Chattanooga TN Sept 28- Oct 6
Appomattox, VA Oct 12-20
If you live in or near either of those Cities, you should try to visit Messiah's Mansion.
But even if you can't see the Tabernacle in person, there are pictures and a video on the website.
And you might want to bookmark the website and check back next year to see if it will be in an area near you.

First of all, you ask, "what is Similitude?"
Well, the Computer dictionary definition of Similitude is:
" similitude |siˈmiləˌt(y)oōd| noun
the quality or state of being similar to something. ...
• … a comparison between two things.
• ... a person or thing resembling someone or something else.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French, from Latin similitudo, from similis ‘like.’ "
So, bottom line -- 'similitude' is something being like or resembling something.
Your next question, probably is: "so what does it mean when it says 'similitude of God'?
This short article answers that question and gives important information that everyone needs to know.
